    At seven minutes it was clear how the JD 4955 just make it back in time at the combine to unload, big two wheel drive tractors have just a look of it's own, thanks for posting this great video

      The combine tank is often right on the brink of being over full each time the cart is unloading. Lots of racing to the combine.

    My current neighbor has one of these. Well, maybe, I haven't seen it in the field in 2 years though it was not being used very much for the last 4 or 5 and they did pick up a much newer JD(the long slopey hood series from just a few years ago) so maybe they traded it in now. I grew up going to school/good friends with his son, he picked it up in the mid 90's as a big tractor for his growing dairy farm. Specifically to pull a new, very large, pull type Gehl forage chopper. I know MFWD was considered superior for a long time now, but it was really not needed for running big PTO type work at harvest time. That's why you can find so many 2wd versions of tractors from JD and Case going into the 80's and even early 90's, not everyone was buying big tractors to use for pulling tillage tools and it was a significant cost savings for the time to skip the MWFD, not to mention maint. costs and tires over the life of the tractor.
    Nowdays things like forage harvesting has become quite specialized so the vast majority of farms either upgraded to the newer self propelled units or hire it in.

    we ran a mfwd 4960 for at least 2 decades until we updated tractors to an 8130. Loved running that tractor had a lot of horsepower and wish we could have kept that tractor as a backup if nothing else but we decided to sell it when we bought the newer one.

      bigtractorpower it was mainly a tillage tractor as we don’t own our own harvest equipment but in the last year we had it we put green star in it and were able to plant wheat with it. I also used it a ton keeping our county roads in better shape then our county did at the time

    The farm I work on has an 8220 two wheel drive I’m not sure how rare the 2 wheel drive 8000 series were but I like it when mowing stalks you can just hit the brakes and turn right around

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  6 років тому

      Wow that’s neat. A 2wd 8220 is on the rare side. I am a big fan of 2wds 8220s.
      The 55 and 60s were the last series to offer 2wd for every model. The 8000s could only have 2wd on the 8100 and 8200. The 8120 and 8220 could be 2wd. After that only the 8130, 8225R and 8235R could be ordered as a 2wd. The 8235R was the last HHP 2wd. The current 8245R is only available at fwa.

    We had a 4755 2wd up till 2013 when we bought a 7200R that 47 never ever got stuck 2wd and it easily pulled our disc grain cart and two 450 DMI wagons. The 7R does all this better but it sucks as a silage chopper doesn’t turn as sharp and for some reason can’t handle it aswell

    I've seen quite a few John Deere combines on your channel. One thing that stands out to me is the unloading auger has a 90° elbow where it swings out. How does the grain around that elbow? My limited knowledge of augers tells me that they can't bend inside the tube. Thanks Big Tractor Power

      The air went out as I was filming. You will notice some clips have the windows closed. The air was plugged up with dirt and they cleaned it out and got the air going. Then it quit again. They will do a good service after harvest. The other tractors on the farm are working on tillage.

      junglist Shawn only in Europe where Deere did not lauched the 60 series. There was 2 versions of 55 series in Europe, first with the exhaust and air cleaner on the hood just like the american 55 series and then the 55 series with the engine air intake inside the hood and the exhaust on the right hand side cab post wich was equivalent to the american 60 series. 60 series Deere in the US and second version of 55 series in Europe I think where introduched with intercooler and Tier 1 emmision level.
