Brings back a memory; I worked the lights/bar at Medusa's (Chicago / 86-89). One "House Night" Lil Louis was spinning when I was working light. We didn't have too many, a couple spots, strobes, and a fog machine. He look at me and said, "turn em all off and just keep making smoke". By closing time the place had to be 100 degrees and 95% humidity. Dark and hot.

I always thought that of all the people who rose to the top in that original underground House Music era, Lil Louis' mind and his creativity (and maybe even his Christianity) seemed to be the most original and interesting. It takes some serious guts and conviction to read Psalms and Genesis on a House Music tract that would be played in an anti-Logos setting (Medusa's makes for a good example) that essentially represents and promotes everything polar opposite to the Word of God. And yet, the over-all wisdom of it is noteworthy. As if our Lord worked through Lil Louis to reach into the party community and bring them His word in their arena of sin. As if to direct the lost sheep in the direction of their Shepherd. As if to confirm that yes maybe they were persecuted but not abandonned. Whether we like it or not, whether they be drunk or sober, believing or denying, all of those ears present when this track played HEARD the word of God. In the depths of the underground, they unknowingly danced to The Word of God. 'You can run but you can't hide' comes to mind. I wonder what Lil Louis was like...Was he cool to work with? Was he a man of the people? How was his mixing style? Was he original in his selection of tracks and his mixing? Did he mostly play only HIS tracks? Did he mix well (technically)? Strictly vinyl?
