@@taylorfusher2997 Yes, trolls in Nordic / Scandinavian folklore are depicted as huge, monstrous beings, often possessing magic powers. Think of the trolls in the LOTR series, and you've got a fairly decent idea of way they were described in our culture. Many sources indicate trolls would only come out at night, because sunlight would turn them to stone.
      Hope this helps. Skál. 🍻

“None was allowed to approach or address Veleda herself. In order to inspire a great respect for her, those who sought her council were forbidden from seeing her. Veleda dwelled in a high and lofty tower, and there were those, chosen specifically for this purpose, who delivered questions to Veleda and brought back her answers, like the messengers of a Goddess.”

“Munius Lupercus, legate of one of the Roman legions, was sent along with many gifts to Veleda, a Maiden of the tribe of the Bructeri who possessed extensive Power; for since the most ancient times the Germans claimed that many of their women possessed the gifts of prophecy, and, so strong was this belief, that some women were even thought to be incarnations of Goddesses. The authority of Veleda at this time was at its height, because she had correctly foretold the success of the Germans and the destruction of the Roman legions.”

Thank you! Are there any sources as to how one became a seidr or prophetess? Was there an apprenticeship system where one learned from an experienced person over a set number of years. Could that be the reason why the seidr were older women? Like the druids had to study 20 years, what do we know about this from the greek or norse?

Great video! It's so sad yet funny and pathetic how people reject ancient knowladge, believing that science and religion/spirituality conflicts eachother instead of complement eachother. Nature is so immensly powerful and the more I learn about paganism, the more I can look at nature and see beyond just the worldy matieral. Skål from Sweden! 🍻✋🏻💙💛

There's a huge difference between legitimate, testable, demonstrable ancient knowledge and complete woo-woo bullshit. There's nothing wrong with studying ancient cultures and learning about their lives, what they believed, and how they interacted with the world... it is, however, wrong to promote the idea that our ancient stories and myths of gods and giants are somehow complimentary to modern scientific theories. Every culture is full of bullshit. Ours is no different. It may be fun, exciting, thrilling, and even thought-provoking... but it's still bullshit.

Thank you for this video. I am very grateful. There is so much information. I need to watch it again but I wanted to get my thoughts down before I forget. First, elderly, o'come on, lol. I will be 49 in a few days and I am not the old hag or crone in the photo. Even though I will be considered a crone at 50 and I have earned it. I would say that the reason being of elderly women, as the volva/oracle, is because of life experience. There are very sharp young ladies I still learn from today. They do not have the emotional and physical pain that the trauma of growing older and leading a long life gives a woman. I was attacked and assaulted at 46. So age doesn't have anything to do with assault. Perhaps the assault story was used as a clever diversion from the actual truth of the age matter? I am looking forward to watching the video on bird symbology because I just recently realized that birds are speaking to me. I had an experience a few years ago, at the beginning of my sacrificial journey. I was distracted by a flock of crows flying over my home in the Osage Hills. Long story short I gave my first sacrifice. My hair. I have smoked a ton of grass in my day and had many hallucinations with a variety of drugs but nothing compares to the spiritual knowledge gained by pain. My guides are my ancestors. Spirits that have lead me all of my life but I see it as Odin, in particular, that has helped me interpret the things I see. I can understand why volva/oracles would be used to gain insight with war and strategic maneuvers because Athena was the goddess of war, mathematics, strategy and WEAVING. Very similar to Freya perhaps? Us weaver's use a lot of math and preplanning. There are so many steps before the actual process of weaving can begin. We move through all of these steps to get to the rhythmic, transcendental state of weaving, that we love so much. I can understand the ecstatic dancing method as well being a professional belly dancer and instructor for over 15 years. I have pushed my body to the limits and have felt the high of dancing. It is like no other. The dance hangover or crash afterwards is awful. Yes, the physicality has wrecked my body and caused me so many injuries but I love it. It also made me incredibly strong. The path of the healer is a wounded one.

For guidance on Greek history and paganism I like Angelo Nasios who runs the Hearth of Hellenism channel (which is mostly podcast interviews) and he also has a nice blog on Substack. He's a polytheist as well as a classical scholar (and also happens to be ethnically Greek)...
For belief in oracles there was late as the 1980s (if not later) was some famous fortune teller (I forget her name) who had quite a following among celebrities including Nancy Reagan, and, I believe, Oprah. So even in the modern day it's not entirely scoffed at...
