  • One of the most significant gong factories in Borneo can be found at Kampung Sumangkap. It is a cottage industry where 50-60 households produce gongs for a living; or they used to until there was lesser demand for gongs. Some of them have started rubber tapping for a living instead. Here are 4 things you will discover at Kampung Sumangkap:
    1) How a gong is being produced from scratch
    2) The biggest gong in Borneo, and some say the world
    3) The entry fee to visit this gong-making cottage industry
    4) All the different types and sizes of gongs
In this episode, we also share about Rungus beliefs as the gong is one of the most important musical instruments for their tribe. Stay till the end as we play a Rungus tune for you using three gongs.
