Singletary had 50% of what it takes to be a great coach. He has the tenacity, love, emotion and intensity. He just needed a way to transfer that into his players. Kinda like magic johnson, he loved the game so much and had such a drive that when he saw players who didnt have that, he didnt know what to do.

The Niners needed Singletary to come back and bench Vernon again this season. Holding out and missing practice for more money? Can't catch shit all season? Cannot play with them. Cannot win with them. Cannot coach with them. CAN'T DO IT.

Mike Singletary had difficulties coaching people that weren't like him. He was extremely passionate, but his mind didn't really understand the QB role for instance. He almost certainly saved Vernon's carrier, and made him a better person to boot. I wouldn't want SIngletary as a head coach, but as a linebacker coach, and in your locker, definately. He's gon through a lot of difficulties in his life, with tragedy and he's always pushed forward. He's a winner. Not a brilliant, but a hard worker
Singletary is only lacking the x's and o's part of the game. Put him as a defensive coordinator for 2-3 seasons under a smart coach. Give him the way to turn his passion to game management and he'd be amazing.
