The main motive for them is to "get rid of the fakes who claim to be us" because they are a little cuckoo.

Because Kotetsu survived from that fatal wound thanks to the guard that was in front of his stomach, then he would not have stand up and helped Tokito, Tokito would have suffocated and died, then that blacksmith and Haganezuka would have died, Gekko would have continued to attack the village. Tokito should have thrown Tanjiro's new sword, but Tokito would have died, so Tanjiro would not have been able to chop off Hanteigu's head, then he would have killed Tanjiro, Nezuko and Genya, and Zokahuten would have finished off Mitsuri. Next, they would destroy the entire village and the blacksmiths in it, then the demon hunters would not have Nichiren blades and they would no longer be able to fight and then the demons would become omnipotent and would have invaded Japan (VERY bad English)
