- Join me as I kick out the jams* to the hard rock of the 70s with albums by Budgie, Sir Lord Baltimore, The Sweet, Frijid Pink and a whole lot more. Cleveland band Left End start things off with the track Takin' Time, from their album Spoiled Rotten from 1974 * a nod to the mighty MC5
hey michael!! awesome albums! that budgie record is something else… really unique. the thing rocks so hard yet has this warm core to it-truly inspiring rock.
Yes, Budgie was a great band, the album I showed has a great track on it called In the Grip of the Tyrefitter's Hands, and it's my fave song from that album. As you said, they were a truly unique band. Thanks for tuning in and hope you have a great Memorial Day!
Great List Mike!!!! Seeing " Machine Head" On The Wall!! Reminds Me Of A Story!!! Summer Of 72 Me And Couple Of Buddies Made A Marathon Weekend Road Trip To Florida... And We Had No Radio... Just 2. 8-Tracks..."Machine Head" And " Mountain Climbing".... Needless To Say... They Are Etched In My Memory!!! lol!!
That reminds me of a story... Graduation party in 1974, eight track tape of Dark Side of the Moon playing continuously for hours on end, couldn't listen to Dark Side for a long time after that! Thanks for tuning in, and thanks for the story.
Now That's Funny!!! I Share Your Pain!!!!
Great list Michael, love that sweet album and deep purple in rock is balls to the wall.
Yeah, the Sweet and Deep Purple albums rock hard! Thanks for tuning in Carl.
Some KILLER!!! 70's hard rock thanks Michael. That Left End sounds awesome will have to see if I can find a copy.
Left End was a band that I saw a lot in my teenage years, they played at a lot of the teen clubs in and around Cleveland. You might be able to find a decent copy on Discogs for a reasonable price. Thanks for tuning in.
Hi Michael another wonderful selection of album's Budgie, Mayblitz, priest etc! This was the music I was into pre punk! And the Sweet whose album's rocked! Nice one!😊👍
Hi Ian, I was into more traditional hard rock before punk, like Led Zep, Sabbath, and Sweet, it wasn't til later that I got into May Blitz, Sir Lord and J Priest. Thanks as always for tuning in, and have a great week.
Hard and Heavy
Hard and Heavy Indeed!
Hi Michael, you still have one of the best collections in the VC, at least with music I like. I think I use to have the Leaf Hound album but it just didn’t grab me. You showed another cool sounding Cleveland band whose name as usual escapes me. Always enjoyable Michael
Hi Steve, Thanks for the kind words. The Cleveland band I showed was Left End, who I used to see live a lot as they played the local teen clubs in and around Cleveland. They have a hard rock/glam sound, not unlike Alice Cooper or Slade, their album, released on Polydor, didn't sell well outside of Cleveland, so they were dropped from their record label. Thanks for tuning in and hope you're enjoying your new life in Denver!
Hi Michael.. I agree with you 100% on all of these albums.. Can’t wait for your next video... Garen
Hi Garen, thanks for tuning in, glad you liked the video!
Hey Michael, Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I got to see Mountain and then a year or so later ('73), Leslie West's Wild West Show with Black Sheep opening (Lou Gramm). Both shows were LOUD! Have a good weekend.
Hi Ralph, Cool you saw Mountain, great band. One band I've never seen live, but wish I had!
Michael 3 matches today: Powerage, Fridgid Pink And Machine head great video!
You have excellent taste in music! Thanks for watching.
Great musical intro from Left End! I had from Mountain a double album, great artwork. I bought that Deep Purple "In Rock" at an indoor flea market. When I came home and started that record I heard it was live??? Inside was not that record but 1 record from "Live in Japan"! It would be nice as I could find just the vinyl of "In Rock". That Sweet album has nice art work; with that eye. I go today to a man who bought recently 1000 records and I will return with nice records. I wish you a nice weekend Michael and all the viewers here! Jason
Hi Jason, I think I have the Mountain album you mentioned, a live album with great cover art. Too bad that you had the wrong album in the Deep Purple cover, hope you find a vinyl for it, or maybe a copy with a bad cover but good vinyl. Always nice to visit people with records for sale! Hope you find something you're looking for. Thanks for your comment, and have great weekend too.
Hey Michael!
Orangutan is a banger 💥 Frijid Pink also very cool 🤘🏻Demian that’s one I’m still looking for awesome 🔥Sir Lord Baltimore and Buffalo man you’re showing some heat!!! I found an OG of the SLB awhile back at a show
Still need Budgies debut Leafhound and May Blitz are great also! Bunch of bangers!!!
Take care Brian ☮️🤘🏻✌️
Cool you found an OG of Sir Lord Baltimore, I had one years ago and sold it like an idiot! I think Leafhound was reissued on RSD this year. Thanks for tuning in Brian, take care.
G’day from Australia Michael . That’s a great list . Awesome to see Buffalo from Australia get some cred . Check out their second album ‘Volcanic Rock’ it’s a classic . Leaf hound was rereleased this years RSD also. Cheers
Volcanic Rock is on my want list, Buffalo is a great band and it's a shame that they never caught on here in the States. Looking for Leafhound's other LP too. Thanks for commenting Craig, and Cheers to you as well!
There's one I don't know...Left End. The song sounds good, I don't remember the cover at all. I don't know about you, but I absolutely hate the outer art on that May Blitz cover. WTF? Well Michael, that was a cool dip into the 70s. Some things here I don't know, they look tasty though. I was out at the store yesterday. I scored four nice 60s OGs. They came from the same collection. You'll have to wait to find out what I got. 😜Thanks for the video drop! Ron
Left End were a local legend in Cleveland in the mid 70s, they released one album on Polydor, then were promptly dropped when it didn't sell, but it's a great hard rock album and worth having if you're into that sort of thing. If you think May Blitz artwork is bad, have you seen their second album? Yech! But the music's good. Looking forward to seeing what you scored, based on what you've shown in previous videos, it'll probably be something killer! Thanks for commenting, Ron, take care.
15 great hardrock albums ! . Budgie is awesome . They were the right band in the wrong time ( they had to rival Sabbath , Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple . Top that !! )
Underrated band anyway . Do you have the Squawk lp in your collection Michael ? , is it good ?
Regards , Jan from Belgium
I agree with you on Budgie, they were the underdogs of the hard rock scene, but put out some great albums. Their album Squawk, unfortunately I don't have, but it's on my list. Thanks for your comments, Jan, take care.
