i dont want to offend you or anything, but i was wondering if you only like D&D type fantasy minis, because...theres a lot of us in the scifi area of minis that i think would basically have a stroke if you started doing scifi terrain :O, not that i dont like fantasy or anythin, i love both! also i think your channel is really awesome and you put a lot of effort into it and it shows and i'm super thankful because, i can't really do any of this stuff (lack of talent and materials) so watching you do it makes me happy, lol congrats on going full time youtuber! Also i'm glad to hear your wife is doing better, too (i didnt watch the video before typing this because i was excited to hear the news, sorry)

Sean C I’m sure I’ll eventually build some sci-fi stuff, but I’ll have to start playing something that needs it first. My builds are actually used for my game which happens to be fantasy. At least for now.

I just wanna tell you a little story. I hadn't played a D&D in 15 years (3.0 was the hot new edition ), and last December, while in a UA-cam hole, I stumbled across the dark cathedral video. I was instantly inspired to find some XPS and build something. My son was getting to an age where we could play dungeons and dragons. ..
It is because of you, that I rejoined the world of TTRPG and is now a family event, in our house.

Couldn’t recommend this channel more for crafters as well as DM’s! Videos are top notch, informative and cover a range of topics in a hobby where newcomers can sometimes feel overwhelmed or confused. Also! For those of you buying pink foam, buy it on a nice day with no wind, wind will bend the hell out of your foam and you’ll be fighting it learned from experience!

I stuck it out until the end... 41 minutes and change. In my "never to be humble opinion" it was easy, you were concise, entertaining, and most importantly to me, honest. I don't think you suger coted any answer and just gave no-nonsense answers. This is a quality that I often find lacking and it was SO refreshing to watch a favorite of mine already, this Q&A so well. Thank you, sir, if I wasn't already a subscriber, this video would have made me subscribe.

Okay I need some advice. My son is writing an adventure for D & D. I thought it would be cool to make a miniature set of his adventure building. It is going to be huge even to scale. It will be 4 ft. x 7ft. and possibly 4 ft high or a bit higher. It has to be light weight and done in parts that fit together. As each floor will be separtate so they can see where the action will be as they clear it. Maybe each floor could have like 3 sections. They need to connect to stand on their own without coming apart. Each floor will occupy the table separately but when done it will all come together. Like I said a big project but I think will be awesome when done. I am also not very good at details so I may need help on that end. Any suggestions?

Haha, your musician story hits home. I was in a touring metal band, and that kinda just fell apart on its own (not really because of family stuff). I got back into D&D after battling alcoholism as a way to trick my friends into coming over and hanging out instead of going out to bars. 2 years later and it has completely consumed my life. But I feel like I'm in a healthier place now than I have been in years.
I wish I had thought to ask more about your music. Next time!

I came to say a similar thing! Was in a touring band for 5 years, and after it fell apart I realized I'd built my life around my band, my bandmates, and only planning as far as the start/end of the next tour or gig. I got back into TTRPGs and gaming in general, and now I feel like a happier, healthier person than I ever was when I was "living my dream" on the road. I really miss playing gigs and living in music, but I really don't miss all of the drama and pain that comes along with the lifestyle.

If you ever have the issue with the size of the base being bigger, go to the craft store and get a few of the wooden discs that are the 1 and 2 inch diameters. You can easily put them underneath the base to raise it up and let you fit characters in place.
It becomes even easier if you also have metal washers of the same size, stack two or three of the discs glued together with a washer on each end. Paint it black and you can normally work with it...if you have a magnetic table, add a magnet into the center of the bottom washer...
The major problem with the minis size is when people scale things odd

I know this is a few months late, but something that might help with focusing the DSLR by yourself is to put blocking tape on the floor so you know where to put your tripod and maybe use a mic stand with a tennis ball as a stand in for yourself. I'm sure you've found a way to work with this, but I figured I'd offer a little bit of help if you still need it. Love your vids as always and you've been a huge inspiration to get me started in the crafting scene.

Congratulations on going full time content creator.
I've been crafting things for decades (ren faire, costuming, actual robots) but just just getting started with terrain. I gotta say, your thoughtful, precise approach and execution is inspiring and quite appealing to me as an engineer. Since I run sci-fi for my group (we're starting a Star Wars campaign soon) I'll be focusing on sci-fi tiles and terrain. But, Star Wars is a space opera fantasy setting, so there will definitely be some fantasy style builds. I may even record some of the builds since there's not a lot out there for sci-fi that isn't Warhammer 40K.
If, by chance, you make it down to Austin, TX at the beginning of any May, I'd love to have you as a guest at Chupacabracon. But, I know traveling from Canada can get complicated and expensive and, as a charity, we couldn't help. But, open invitation regardless.
Thanks for the videos, tutorials, and tips.

Congratulations on going full time. I remember your vid from a while back where you put yourself out there and publicly committed to this goal. I remember thinking that took guts, and you also seemed quite emotionally invested in achieving it. It's really affirming to see your hard work and dedication pay off. You should feel proud about this one, you've earned it.
On a (possibly not completely) different note, I usually tune out and bail from vids over 20-30 minutes as they tend to be b-o-r-i-n-g and torturous videos which should have been edited down to 10 minutes. I was really hesitant about watching a 41:17 long video, but I was surprised when you said, "Well, that's it..." at the end. It didn't feel like more than 15-20 minutes spent, so congrats on not only learning the RPG terrain craft, but on learning the vid content craft. You kept me engaged through over 40 minutes of nothing but talking head content - impressive!

Hey man, big fan. I'm a little late to the party here but congrats to you going full time. Sorry for the rough year brother, I've been there. I have Crohn's as well, I really hope whatever meds your wife is on continue to work. Best of luck!

This was Awesome. Hope you do more of these in the future. Although it's funny how many people could answer their own questions by simply checking out your older content. Wish I had the money to support you on patreon, but the life of a disabled vet is very paycheck to paycheck. Oh well, keep up the great work.

I'm hoping to start a new business this year myself. I tried UA-cam way back in 2007 and found it just wasn't for me, maybe with the new job I'll do some videos for it.

FYI, even if your videos are a little long, there is a playback speed that for us who may get impatient or are strapped for time, can speed the video and fully comprehend what you are saying and doing.
I have been a gamer since 1978, but, due to circumstances, aka Life and children stopped modeling and now I have more time, (grin,) art is so precious, and I want to let you know I appreciate your channel past and present here in 2022, congratulations for making these items and being a Game Master. love the inspiration! from an avid gamer fan with my children and grandchildren, and lazy computer RPG real time games runescape, wiz101 wink.

This was a wonderful video to watch. I have a channel myself (The 28mm Build) and it has very few vids as I have realized what a massive undertaking it is. It is as you have said, a great deal of work doing what you do, and I respect and appreciate your drive, passion, and dedication to your craft. My hat is off to you. This vid was full of all kinds of great insights and information. Thank you for what you do and have given to this community.

Great video! And I've just made the jump and joined the Fellowship. My first game as a DM is coming up, and I feel waaaaay more prepared now that I've crafted some terrain and watched videos like this one. Thanks man!
