It's not called an escalation when it's done in self defense. The escalation was when Hezbollah attacked Israel in the north after Hamas attacked from within. Then it was another escalation when the Houthis started firing ballistic missiles from even further away. Then it was further escalation when rockets were launched from within Syria proper and when their roads were used to transport weaponry.

Israel started out on OCT 8th with having the moral ground. However, over the months and the rising death toll slowly lost the moral ground to where most of the world is starting to condemn israel. Even Biden, was starting to scold Israel and show his discontent. The Punishment out weighs the sin. In order for Israel to regain moral support from other nations, it has to once more look like a victim and under threat. So what did it do? It began to provoke regional nations that despise it but have been some what "Sleeping". Places like Syria, Lebanon etc... Provoke them enough that they shoot back under the guise of Hezbolla or Hamas. Here's a head scratcher for you. Hezbollah has no pressence in Syria. It's a war between ISIS and The Regime. Not Hezbollah. To add to this, Now that an entire nation of Iran is yelling "Death to Israel" on TV again, it'll garner more sympathy and support once more.
