This was my father's favorite song. Age 87 he was walking home, 3 miles, from his shift volunteering at the local hospital, suffered a massive stroke, took a header. I'm living on the opposite coast, sister the nurse calls and I'm on a flight ASAP. He was still hanging on but ... Docs were telling us to pull the plug, family waited for me. Took out my phone, spoke in his ear, told him I was there, all his children were there, played Bridge over troubled waters to him and told him it was okay, he could join Mom. He passed shortly after. .
I agree--but that's partly because Canada gets Joni, Britain gets Sting and John Lennon and George Harrison, and because I was never THAT much of a Dylan fan. But there are others who should still be in the running. That was a heck of a generation for singer-songwriters.
Yes! It's a great song! I'm a 70 year old woman , and yes this song brought me plenty of tears over the years, and yet much comfort. And YES, Simon & Garfunkel have many more great songs! You just keep on listening to them, and you will love them too, I think. Your take on music is pretty darn great itself, and Mister... you don't have a bad voice yourself, from what I have heard so far. Keep on keeping on! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Art Garfunkel, the tall one, is the singer here with the angelic voice; Paul Simon, the shorter, dark-haired guy wrote this masterpiece, and I believe they both contributed to the arrangement. Yes, probably one of the greatest popular songs of all time. Do check out more of their work, it's all beautiful, inspiring, comforting, and the real deal.
I still manage to play this on the piano, despite the arthritic hands. I'll keep playing it until the day I die and maybe I'll play it for my funeral ⚱️
Beautiful song!! A masterpiece! The shorter guy is Paul Simon and he sings harmonies, plays instruments and writes the songs. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel! I love their song "I Am A Rock"
You are correct; this song is timeless and one of the greatest ever written. It is hard not to be taken by emotion on this one. All their music is great but this is probably up at the top.
Great song! I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel & had a lot of their records. Absolutely loved them & their harmonies. You won't find a bad song. They have had so many hits such as "Sound Of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", "Scarborough Fair", "At The Zoo", "Kathy's Song", "The 59th Street Bridge Song", "Homeward Bound", "Cecilia", "America", "I Am A Rock", "El Condor Pasa" etc. Paul Simon went on to have a huge solo career with lots of great songs.
I can't wrap my head around the concept that these folks have never heard of S & G. I grew up in the other side of the world and watchedthe Concert in Central Park like a only one million times.
Not much question why this song is a classic that will probably be listened to for centuries. Simon and Garfunkel are an odd combination but they sure fit musically! ❤
The angelic choirboy voice of Art Garfunkel and the songwriting skills and voice of Paul Simon were so unique. Paul also had a solo career with great songs like Slip Sliding Away, Boy In The Bubble, and Diamonds On The Sole Of Her Shoes. Simon & Garfunkel have great songs like 'America,' 'For Emily, Where Ever I May Find Her.' and Homeward Bound. Thanks for your hard work and the diversity of songs you play. Your commentary is always great.
Took guitar lessons when I was 10 with a friend Lou Pearlman. His parents invite me over for dinner, and Lou introduces me to his cousin Art Garfunkel. I had no idea who he was. Still have his autograph from that meeting. Lou went on to form the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC.
I'm a 70yr old curmudgeon and even after over 50 years it still tugs at my cold heartstrings. One of the greatest songs ever written and performed. The recent famous cover of the song is ok but can't come close to the original. Art Garfunkel's voice is on loan from the Celestial Choir. 😊
Great song.....Great voices...My other favs...SOUND OF SILENCE ( ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER)....SCARBOROUGH FAIR, HOMEWARD BOUND AND CECILA....CLASSICS...PLEASE LISTEN AND ENJOY
This is a Beautiful Song. It's been Covered by many Artist's including Elvis Presley "Bridge Over Troubled Water" 1970 Live in Las Vegas (New Mix, Great Sound)
This song has been making me cry since i was 10 years old. I just love how it starts out low and slow and builds to the inspiring crescendo. Not to mention the vocals. Two insanely talented artists ❤
They are considered one of the pioneers of the folk-rock movement. And Art Garfunkel is the one with the golden tenor voice along with Paul Simon's extraordinary songwriting abilities made these two a force to be reckoned with. But I'd like to suggest a song that Paul Simon released when he went solo, If interested. "Paul Simon - Me and Julio Down By The School Yard (from The Concert In Hyde Park)" This was a lovely reaction thanks for sharing, AB
I’m so glad you listened to this! My dad used to tell me it’s the greatest love song of all time and I was confused about that when I was younger because when I think love song I think romance. But this song can be about any kind of love. It’s basically saying whatever comes, I got you! If your waters are troubled, I will pay myself down so you can get across them! It’s beautiful. A masterpiece. The tall, curly-headed one (Garfunkel) is doing most of the singing. The harmonies are both of them. But you must watch also watch a live performance of this song.
This song is about you, about how humanity works (at its best), how you should always remember how you can count on your friends. Clicking on this reaction, I hoped you would feel the same as the millions of us who were already captivated by this song. Thanks for meeting my expectations. Don't worry about the tissue, I'm sure you're a great human being yourself.
The tall curly haired one, Art Garfunkel, sings the solo on this. Famous Studio musician Larry Knetchtel of the "Wrecking Crew" musicians, invented the piano part and shines on this and deserves credit for making this song work on a higher level. this song actually won five Grammy's including Song of the Year and Record of the Year...too my generation this song was sort of an anthem for peace in the world and symbolic song of the ending of the 1960's.
This is a song of my youth at the beginning of 70s ... we listened Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Santana, TheDoors, RolingStones, Joan Baez, Bob Marley, Barbra Straisand, Police, Simon&Garfunkel, Janice Joplin etc ... you have still a lot to losten to 🙂
This is the first Album I ever bought - I was 13, 1970, I knew all the lyrics to all the songs, but this song, Bridge over Troubled Waters still gives me chills.
I believe this was Song of the Year in 1970. The tall one - Art Garfunkel, was the angelic voice on this one. This is an emotional song as who can't relate to it!
Love that you said this has to be one of THE greatest songs of all-time. It is. Probably in the Top Five of songs in the last 60 years. Absolute perfection in every way.
Maybe the greatest quote in u tube history "I'm a thug but thugs cry too" Hilarious! Dude, you need to check out more of these guys, they were incredible. This Lp was released in January, 1970 and in March 1971 won two Grammy's for this song for song of the year and the album for record of the year and its still one hell of an album. Between about 1964 and this Lp these two were incredible, so many great songs. This was there last album and they went out with a bang. I saw The Beatles live in Pittsburgh at age seven in 1964 and Beatlemania was insane. Saw Queen live in Pittsburgh in 1974 (only time they were here) and they were incredible. Seen The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Bib Dylan half a dozen times to name a few. I must say though, the greatest concert I've ever attended was at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh when they reunited for a one year tour and they were incredible. This came about after they reunited for a free concert in Central Park in the fall of 89. They were expecting maybe 100,000 but 500,000 showed up. It was filmed for an HBO back when HBO was a big deal. I subscribed just to see the show. The reunion tour came out of this show. Paul Simon ( the short one) wrote all of their songs. He wrote this one for Art Garfunkel to sing. Simon is one of the all time great songwriter's and went on to have one hell of a solo career. Many many hit singles and LP's. This concert was one big chill pot party and I wouldn't be surprised if up in the atmosphere if there was still a cloud of pot smoke lingering above where the stadium stood. One hell of a concert. I forgot to mention that this concert was in 1990 and also, I saw Bob Dylan, not Bib Dylan. Peace ❤
It's marvelous yet thrilling that after 54 years since this immortal classic was first released, it touches the hearts of those who listen for the first time in 2024.🥰
Paul Simon (the shorter one, wrote the majority of their work and was, for a while, in a relationship with Carrie Fisher. You know, Princess Leia from Star Wars). Art Garfunkel is the guy with the higher, angelic voice (he's the taller one), when Paul sings, he's singing the lower notes you hear. When they broke up, Art didn't release much. Paul, on the other hand, went on to write Graceland and many other wonderful songs. They reunited briefly to record the concert in Central Park, which rocked! Try these songs, a few of my personal favorites: Scarborough Fair, I Am a Rock, A Hazy Shade of Winter, El Condor Pasa, Leaves That Are Green, and Kathy's Song. Gosh, there are so many gorgeous songs. Just do everything by Simon and Garfunkel! They are one of my favorite folk/rock groups prominently represented on my Life's Song list.
We included this song in our halftime show, high school marching band. Yes, you can march (glide) to this. It was so well received we used it the following year, too. This was in the 70s.
What a trip watching you. Reminds me of the 60's when I heard them first, then sang their songs in my 75 grad ceremony. I was so lucky to be born in the best music era, and loved watching you explore these treasures one song at a time. Peace from Northern Michigan.
I grew up listening to Simon & Garfunkel.. their voices are absolutely memorizing their songs are absolutely gorgeous.. Always love watching your reactions you're one of the top reactors on my list that I watch 💓
Someone probably already said this, but here goes: "I'll take your part when darkness comes, and pain is all around, Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down..." And I believe the person singing at the beginning of the song was Art Garfunkel.
The main singer is the tall guy, Art Garfunkel. Yes, it is one of the best songs ever. Another one of their most epic songs is "The Sound of Silence". If you havent heard it, please listen to it. Its deep. Very deep.
Love this song. Yes.... you are correct. This song works in many situations. I loved it when it was released..... and still love it today. I was so lucky to have grown up at a time when we had such great music by talented artists who sang with no computer adjustments, no auto tune, no nothing except pure talent. Yes... one of the greatest songs ever written..... I'm loving your reaction videos... great job !!!!!
Paul Simon wrote this song. ( he's the shorter one with the dark hair) Art Garfunkel ( The taller one) has a beautiful voice. Together their harmonizing is supurb. It was a sad day when they split and went their seperate ways. Paul has gone on to have a long career. Some of Paul's songs: *Graceland *50 Ways to Leave Your Lover. These are just a couple. Elvis did a beautiful cover of this song ( Vegas 1970) Paul Simon was one of the solos on We Are The World. ( next to Kenny Rogers) It's fun to go back and rewatch USA for Africa, We Are the World. A year or so down the road after having reacted to do many artists, and recognizing the ppl you didn't know first time around.
Art was amazing! He'd stand there with his thumbs hooked though his belt loops, open his mouth & Heavenly music just fell out effortlessly! ❤ Art taught college classes for a while after they broke up. What an amazing teacher I bet he was! 💖
This song definitely makes you Feel Things. Great reaction. So, Paul Simon (who is the shorter one btw) is a phenomenal songwriter. Art Garfunkel is the lead vocal on this track and killed the performance. PS is amazing. Not only are his folk and rock songs amazing, in the 80s he went thru this African inspired phase. There was a group of African singers - I don't remember their name atm - who sang with him on several songs. Definitely not the most pop or popular song, but Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes is amazing. The entire album Graceland is fantastic. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover is 🔥 Not to mention the soundtrack to The Graduate (Mrs Robinson is classic). There is depth to this catalog and I think you will thoroughly enjoy your trip through it.
I love this song- our band played this at our graduation, shows how old I am - and yes, I almost did not get through the song because I was on the verge of crying, and I was not a crier at that time- As the song built so did my emotions.
It also reassure us that we have friends that care, and we all connect to get thru life. With so many affected by COVID & losses, we need to hear these songs again to get thru our communal dark time.
Please don't stop exploring the powerhouse catalog of gems from Simon & Garfunkel (and their solo careers thereafter as well)! Next try "Sound Of Silence", "Homeward Bound", "El Condor Pasa", etc.
S&G are fantastic. I’m a huge sucker for singer/songwriter groups. They have so many great songs They don’t get enough credit when people cover their songs (Elvis) or anyone singing Sound of Silence
Oh, sweetie. At least for a few generations this was the song--the song you sang at midnight from the back steps, baying the moon when you were drunk off your ass. The song you and your best friend sang holding hands on the swings of the playground. It was the song playing in the back of your head when you went to save your bestie from the back-alley abortionist. Or paid her bail. Or brought her home drunk and crying for reasons she would never tell her parents. The song in your heart when you held a friend close as he cried, and you did lay yourself down over troubled water, because he meant that much to you. It was the song you thought of as you marched into your own personal Mordor. If you had friends on the march, they were the bridge. If you were alone--you imagined friends, and prayed for a bridge. It was the fireside song with your lover on camping trips. The song you played till you were sobbing into your beer when someone you loved died, or left you, or ran off with someone else. It was the song you sang before graduation with your best friends. The song you sang together at the hangout where the adults couldn't find you, when you smuggled in a crate of beer and huddled under the pines. The song you played on the long drive from one coast to another, with the family or the best buddies or the new buddies who were going to the new land with you. It was the song that made you all just shut up and listen when it came on the radio, and you made your buddies stop talking about boys or sports or tv shows or whatever the heck the idiots were talking about, because you had to hear every word. EVERY word. Finding someone born between about 1950 to about 1990, it's tough to find anyone who could not sing it all. Every. Single. Word. By heart. With key changes and fancy runs complete. You might even be able to sing it in harmony when you got to the Silver Girl bridge. It's one of a small set of songs people knew and shared and treated as a holy hymn come pouring out of the speakers flanked by ads and silly love songs.
This song is so beautiful, and I love the angelic voice of Art Garfunkel. Tim Foust of Home Free and Peter Hollens did a cover of this song (as well as Sound of Silence). There are several voice- overs, which are all Peter. No matter who sings this, it brings tears, but when the performer gets to the part...if you need a friend, i'm sailing right behind...not only are there tears, but goosebumps. That little line says so much, at least to me. Thank you for your wonderful reaction!
Most of the song is sung by Art Garfunkel who is the tall one. Paul Simon who is the smaller one comes in towards the end when it says 'sail on silver girl' and is the song writer.
Everybody gangster until this song starts….
This was written in 1969 by Paul Simon and won Grammy’s for Record of the Year and Song of the Year
And Album of the year. They were the first to win all three in the same year.

Wow - God bless you and your dad!!!! Thank you for sharing. I'm crying.
Bless you
Paul Simon is perhaps America's greatest songwriter. His Slip Sliding Away, is one of the most honest songs ever written.
I agree--but that's partly because Canada gets Joni, Britain gets Sting and John Lennon and George Harrison, and because I was never THAT much of a Dylan fan. But there are others who should still be in the running. That was a heck of a generation for singer-songwriters.

They're collectibles now.😅
Not much question why this song is a classic that will probably be listened to for centuries. Simon and Garfunkel are an odd combination but they sure fit musically! ❤

Very soulful and it's a beautiful song great choice AB🔥
Art is singing alone. He is the tall one. Paul comes in only during the chorus. Art has a beautiful voice!
Incredible! This song is a classic ❤❤❤❤❤
One of the most heartfelt songs ever.
I loved all their songs!!!
Art Garfunkel played the piano and sang lead. This is the quintessential song of friendship.
Larry Knechtel played piano on this one. He also shared a Grammy for Best Arrangement.
Please don't stop exploring the powerhouse catalog of gems from Simon & Garfunkel (and their solo careers thereafter as well)! Next try "Sound Of Silence", "Homeward Bound", "El Condor Pasa", etc.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written/perforned. 😎
Art Garfunkel has one of the sweetest voices ever.
S&G are fantastic. I’m a huge sucker for singer/songwriter groups. They have so many great songs
They don’t get enough credit when people cover their songs (Elvis) or anyone singing Sound of Silence
So amazing. I needed that energy ❤
Perfect as a song you’ll ever find.
I'd be so thrilled if you would do their "Keep the Customer Satisfied". None of my reactors have done it, that i recall. It's my favorite
Yes, absolutely it is one of the greatest songs!
A Great Duo. Grew up on their songs.
Thanks for your reaction bruh. You are just as smooth as this song 😎
Love this. Every time I hear this, I get goosebumps! Love your reaction!
Thank you for your wonderful reaction!
you have such a lovely voice...We all need God to help us..peace to you
My all-time favorite song.
Art sounds like an angel.
this is a song for a dad to sing or play at a daughter's christening, communion, graduation, or wedding.. that's what I"ve always thought.
Such a beautiful song. Great reaction as always. Keep the OJ and tissues flowin
Beauty is beyond words but this comes so close.
Please react to more of them please. Paul Simon is one of the greatest songwriters ever and their harmony is perfect.
You must must watch the live version of this. Garfunkel is unreal
one of the best songs ever created hands down
Most of the song is sung by Art Garfunkel who is the tall one. Paul Simon who is the smaller one comes in towards the end when it says 'sail on silver girl' and is the song writer.
Beautiful song, beautiful voices. Elvis’s version is absolutely amazing too.
