      I have the 100V and the Q2Mono but normally carry the Q2M and my XPro-2 with the Fujinon 16-80 in case something colorful pops up. When I want to go minimal I use the 100V and generally use a Tri-X recipe, switching to color if called for. If Leica came out with a Q2 / 50mm, I would probably jump on it.

    Q2: Joy for the rich. Worth every penny.
    X100V: Not for the rest of us. Worth every penny.
    Both will get you out to shoot more and grow. Both will likely be the last stop for those of us who are getting tired of gear and now trying to enjoy the experience.
    Honorable mention... GR III. Joy for the travel-lights (don't forget extra batteries though).

    Had both but found myself reaching for and enjoying the X100V more. The portability, weight, screen, film simulations, conversion lenses, built in flash, make it a versatile sidekick. You can’t deny the sharpness/crispness of the Q2, it’s also sexy as hell!

    While I don't own the Fujifilm X100-V, I do have the XT-5. I love the simplicity of the Fujifilm cameras; however, I own the Leica Q2 and there simply is no comparison when it comes to the quality of the images you will get from the Leica. Incidentally, I bought the XT-5 well after owning the Q2 because I heard so many good things about it. I am definitely not disappointed. Yes, the price of the Q2 is up there, but if you really want the true quality that Leica glass offers, it is well worth the money...make the jump, you won't be sorry.

      When I got some cash to burn, I'll be strongly considering the Q3

    I switched from the x100v to the q2. I loved the x100v, the film simulations and overall experience. I got it for its “analog” feel but I ended up not using it in that way, instead opting for a more rear and front dial control like a dslr. The q2 allows for more of that analog control with real manual focusing if needed, and the actual dials are much easier to control/move compared to the Fuji. The q2 definitely has its flaws, mainly the high iso noise, as you said. But the giant sensor and extremely sharp optics are fantastic. I can live with the high iso noise. The image stabilization helps with handheld slow shutter speeds to keep the iso down. While the colors on Fuji are great, they aren’t true to life (as you show in your test). The Leica colors are fantastic in my opinion. But that’s all really subjective. The black and white jpegs are phenomenal and different on the Leica.
    In the end, I love the q2 and would not go back to the Fuji. But you can’t really go wrong with the Fuji either. Especially given the price difference.
    The Leica is extremely difficult to buy. None of the big online retailers ever have them in stock. I was lucky to be able to buy one by constantly checking Leicacamerausa. Also was able to get it before the price went up. But they can be found used as well.
    Great video

      Thanks for your comments, good stuff! I really like that lens and it's perfect for manual focusing as you said. I could deal with the noise at high ISO, I have the Sony A7Riv which is 60MP, I really wish I should have compared them but I was so busy trying to get this video produced before I had to send it back. One thing I couldn't figure out was in AF-S, is there a way to get the focus point to the exact center? It's easy with the Fuji. I'm leaning towards selling some gear and picking it up, I miss it! HAHA.

    • @mezayrapetyan131

      Yeah that would have been an interesting comparison. To get the focus point to center, you have to double tap on the focus point on the touchscreen and then it will jump to center.

    Thanks for the video. Having owned a X100V and now owning a Q3, I believe the Q3 is the better camera for so many reasons, many of which are in your Video. The big BUT is of course the price. £ for £ the FujiFilm wins hands down (and, i imagine, more so the X100VI) so it comes down to affordability. BTW, I funded my Q3 and accessory purchase (with £’s to spare) by selling my Canon R5 + multiple lenses and accesories as I decided that I wanted to simplify and not carry so much weight. I also sold the 100V, because I reckoned that I would not need it. I am pleased with all the decisions I made, for me, it was the right choice.

  • @paullefko

    Hi great video, so I owned the Q,
    TL2, Cl, Fuji x100v, x100 (original )and the SL. One day I took the q TL2 and SL out and shot the same photos with all three cameras as I wanted to really compare them. And honestly I couldn’t tell a difference between them. The q for what it is, is a great camera.
    I sold the the q after a year or so, why? Because often I needed to go wider and that was not an option, that’s where the TL2 came in. Real world shooting I saw no difference in quality and the camera is substantially smaller. I sold the TL2…. That was dumb, and got at CL. I like the CL ergonomics better and it’s small with the 18. Btw The CL has better autofocus over the TL2, so that was important for me, hence the switch. With the apsc series I was able to have greater flexibility without real world image loss in a small package.
    Do I miss my q, sometimes, but what the Fuji offers is more flexibility in a fixed lens camera, meaning with adaptors and you can reduce the need for cropping ( or extend your ability to crop) whereas with the q you can’t. What is also nice about the Fuji is the 26 megapixels because it uses less memory. Plus it’s easier to transfer Fuji images to Lightroom mobile on the phone. The Leica app is slow to transfer. I Do want to talk about color for a moment too as it came up in the video.
    There are indeed color differences between camera brands, and the q raws are great, but Leica Jpegs are typically meh, excect for black and white. While the Leica’s raw files have great ability to push image in post the Fuji jpegs are simply great, and I don’t need to much with them very often.
    But I’m not worried about true to life colors anyway because that’s never been the way photography has been done even from the time of film. What’s more true Provia, Velvia, Portra N or S you name it film hasn’t been “true”, and for that matter canon colors have always been warm, Nikon, Sony and Panasonic are all cooler. Making a picture interesting has never been about making a perfect copy of reality.
    I have certainly thought about a q2 played with it several times but have not bought it. The Fuji for me is more flexible and offers a greater real world feature set over the q that makes it simpler path to what I want to photograph. Thanks for the video, well done 👍

    I prefer the fujis.
    At this moment a x100v costs 1400 €. A Q2 5100 €. So the price of the Q2 is 3,6 times higher. Is the camera or the pictures 3,6 times better? I don't think so. I other words, for the price of a Q2 I can buy a x100v and nearly 3 successors (x100s(ix), x100s(ven), x100e(ight) or whatever they will call them). So in a few years I will have a state of the art camera, and "you" will be stuck with an outdated Q2. For the same price.
    And imagine you lost or broke your camera. Breaking a 1400 € camera would almost kill me, but breaking a 5100 € camera, oh boy.... I know, Licas are weill build, but they are also heavy like battleships.
    At the moment I have a X-E3. Maybe I will replace it with a X-E4 because of the screen.

    probably I won't be popular with this opinion of mine but-
    I'm using a Sigma fp now with the Sigma 35/2 Contemporary lens. it has better noise performance, more accurate colors than both the Fuji and Leica, better color profiles in-camera (the teal & orange one is really quite amazing for my taste), and still relatively compact. no viewfinder (there's one you can buy and attach now though), but actually I got used to not having one and it's quite liberating when composing. it works great on the street, for portraits, or in really low light. not for action and such of course, but none of these cameras were designed for that anyway. more expensive as a set than the Fujifilm, but much cheaper than the Leica.

    Loved the video! Fun fact: If you shoot a 35mm focal length through the EVF, it is about the same focal length as a 28mm with your arms extended a bit (elbows bent about 120 degrees) when shot through the lcd screen. I have tested it and it works. The distortion is about the same, but obviously the 35mm has a little less. I love my x100v. You are comparing sharpness of APSC and FF using same aperture putting the Fuji at meaningful disadvantage due to a diffraction at f8 and even more so at f11. You are also completely wrong on the Sony RX1. If you compared the quality of images from it and the Q2 you would see they are comparable. The Zeiss f2 lens on Sony is wonderful. I’m somewhat torn between these two (like so many others), but leaning toward trying an X100V second hand to replace a Sony RX100 IV (great camera, but just too small to enjoy using instead of my Canon SLR). I can see me buying the X100V, but always wondering “what if?” for the Leica. In the UK there is an option to test the Leica at home for a few days for just £40 (plus the rest of the £4,500 as a deposit - yikes!), but could be a definite goer, but after making that commitment I’m sure I’d end up accepting it into my life.

    You're seeing more "sharpness" with the Q2 because it has far more resolution, not necessarily because the lens is that much sharper. Given that this is a completely unfair comparison-47MP full frame to 26MP APS-C-I'd say the X100V is doing phenomenally well. A better comparison might be against the original 24MP Leica Q.

      I agree, Robert. Also, it's easy to look at boring photos (apologies, Aaron) and pixel peep but if you take a really nice shot nobody is going to think about the limitations of your camera. In other words a Q2 will not make you a better photographer (but it will make your bank account a lot smaller).

    • @RobertFalconer1967
      @RobertFalconer1967 3 роки тому

      @@jimmason8502 Exactly. If you make a great capture, nobody asks (nor can tell) what kind of camera you shot it on (especially when posting it online). Most of today's consumer level cameras are within a few percentage points of each other in terms of overall image quality. Obviously, a 100MP medium format sensor will show a discernible difference from a 24MP APS-C sensor, but even then, will you be able to notice much difference if you're just posting online?
      Sure, some cameras have a bit more resolution if you're making large prints; some are better in low light; some have a bit more dynamic range; some have a bit wider color gamut...but these are all marginal differences that are only important to very specific applications.
      Bottom line: it's the content that matters, not the camera.

    I also use Sony for my main cameras and wanted the same thing, an everyday pocketable camera. After trying the Fuji and the Ricoh GRiii, the Ricoh won hands down 1- truly pocketable, APSC sensor with crazy good DR ( look at the sensor rating on Photons to Photos), true 1 handed operation, best B&W I have ever seen out of camera and the "positive film simulation" is amazing, crazy sharp 28mm lens. The autofocus and battery life are not a good as the Fuji's but for what I needed it wasn't that important. I added the hot shoe thumb grip and one more thing the Ricoh turns on faster than any camera ever, in .5 seconds it is ready to shoot so it goes from pocket to picture in an instant, one handed. I sent some images to your website if you care to see them.

    I have some 28 mm vintage lenses, but I just never feel as comfortable with them as with 35 mm. It's the main thing keeping me from the Q,especially as I'm pretty sure the field of view on that Q lens is actually more than that of a normal 28? Thanks for the open minded review which I only stumbled across just now as I have become interested in the Q. Not too crazy about the 47 MP extra sharpness but would rather go for better low light performance, so I am in the market for a Q with same optics. It is also more affordable. BTW, I do own a Sony first gen RX1 - and love it. The Zeiss optics/Sony sensor combo - although a bit dated - really does it for me. But it is a 35 mm and like you, I love the 28 mm view as a standard take-along. For everything else, there is the regular gear. Please keep up the good work.

    Oh my..... I don't need to hear that! I recently sold a business and am at retirement age. I live simply. I can afford that Leica. One thing keeps me from giving into my G.A.S. I can put my X100V into a jacket pocket quite easily. The size of that Leica lens makes it nearly 2x the depth. So if I walk around with the Leica I need to keep it around my neck or in my hand.... or in a dinky little camera bag. None of those sounds attractive.

    I use and enjoy both Fujifilm and Leica, but if it was me, I'd choose the X100V over the Q2. It's not just price, but the Q2's sensor, like the SL2, is just too noisy IMHO. Leica improved the noise issue on its high-resolution sensors in the Q2 Monochrome and M10R. You can tweak the X100V WB and film simulation settings to come quite close to what you would get straight out of a Leica camera JPEG. Leica WB default settings are always warmer than Fujifilm. Also, the Fujifilm wide angle converter will give you a 28mm focal length and add some versatility to the camera. Lastly, in post, you can play with contrast and clarity/texture to get your Fujifilm camera shots to look more Leica-ish, if this is important to you. Try decreasing contrast by about 10-15 and bumping up clarity in proportion. You may be surprised.

    • @AaronAnalog1

I like playing with the film simulations with JPG and then having the RAW to also play with in post. I think I might be more intrigued with the Q2 Monochrome now that I've got to play with the Q2. If I get more into nighttime photography I might have to check it out. Thanks again, keep shooting.

    That said, I read a review recently that claimed you can actually get better B&W results with the standard Q2 when shooting in B&W as you're still able to use LR's color sliders in post to adjust luminance. That was the first thing I noticed with the Monochrom, that the color sliders in LR are disabled. Incredible images nevertheless, and still think it'd be superior to the standard Q2 at high ISOs due to the sensor modifications.

      Hi, Bischof Fotografie,
      Sorry, but I'm afraid I don't understand your comment.
      If you mean you can't use your Color Sliders on a color image that you've converted to monochrome, that would be incorrect; in fact, I do it all the time; the color information is still available and luminance is readily adjustable.
      On the other hand, if you mean that you can't use the Color Sliders on an image SHOT in monochrome, as is the case with the Q2M, that is absolutely correct as there are no RGB pixels in the sensor to record that info.
      So, when you state "Don't believe this," I don't know what the "this" is that you're referring to. Please clarify.
      Thanks.
      And sorry, Aaron, for not answering you earlier.
      Am still sitting on a very high fence in regard to the Q2 vs Q2M. In fact, I was looking again today at some photos I took of a goat standing in a field - hey, goats are cool! - and am still utterly gobsmacked by their seemingly infinite croppability. (I may have made that word up.) It's like using a macro lens from 5 meters!
      I do hope you get to try one some day - a Q2M, I mean; not a goat - it's something.

    Hi, beware the earlier Leica Q is not waathersealed. I had mine from the day it was launched and after a few years it was accumulating dust on the sensor. Cost me £180 and a trip to Leica to resolve it. The Q2 has a larger gasket to avoid those issues. Sold mine when I got it back from Leica and use a Fuji X100V. Will consider a Leica Q 2 monochrom which is the second series of the camera which has a larger gasket to stop dust and water getting in the body.

    Refering to your cuban travel it would at any rate better to hide the Leica logo in the body!

    I’m curious as to how one of the compact Fuji interchangeable lens mirrorless (XT4, XPro3, XT30, XT200, etc) might thread the needle between the 100V and the Leica. Rolling your own lens/picking a best-for-you kit for everyday carry/upgrading your lens down the road is a big advantage over both fixed-lens cameras in my opinion.

      Have you tried the new Fuji 18mm 1.4? That a 28mm equivalent and it's amazing.

    If money is not a problem yes go for the laica is an amazing camera and the results are just beautiful. But is it 4 times better ? I don’t think so at least in my opinion mostly when with couple of edits can get to the same point.

    Very nice review. Thanks for putting it together. I returned my x100v. I just didn’t like the colors and the film simulations got old quickly for me. I have a Q2 sitting in the checkout cart. Should I do it? 😰😬 lol

    • @AaronAnalog1
      @AaronAnalog1  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting! Haha, I know the feeling, putting something in the cart and letting it sit there. Gives you some time to think things through. I know I focused on the colors a lot in this video but there are a handful of improvements you'll see from the Q2 like better/sharper lens, better EVF and nicer build quality. You going to miss the Fuji's flippy screen though?!

      No, don't be daft. £4,500 for a fixed lens camera is nuts.
      If you crave a Leica get the SL2S with a voigtlander 35mm f1.4 or the Sigma 35mm f2 if you desperately need AF.
      The SL2S is the sexiest thing ever.

    Is your CL film? Nice informative video here, thank you. One thing i will always say is, digital cameras are computers, they depreciate in value pretty quick, the Q2 is an amazing camera sadly, it is still a computer, wish they made it so that we could change lenses, because let’s face it, that’s the true piece of equipment on that beauty that commands the hefty price, but on the positive we don’t have to worry about dust getting on the sensor. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.

    Nice video and great shots, many thanks! Doubt I will ever spring for a Leica, although I am very fascinated w/ them. Have been a Fuji shooter since 2018 and currently have my X-Pro3 w/ me majority of the time. Have never shot the X100 line at all as I landed on a used X-E3 a couple years back instead that I usually pair w/ my f/2 lens…kinda the poor mans X100, haha.

    That's a good comparison. I also made a comparison video. A lot of time was put into taking pictures, editing, and making videos. JPG was a meaningful comparison, but compared to RAW files there was not much difference. I enjoyed the video.😁👍🏻

    The Q is just as good and good deals used. Don’t rule out the Q. I don’t think I’ll ever need to upgrade. Your review and comparison was great, but what you failed to mention is the Q won’t fit in a pocket! So I am buying a x100v for my jacket pocket.

    • @AaronAnalog1
      @AaronAnalog1  3 роки тому +1

      Very true, the smaller form factor of the x100v is better! But if I were to get the wide converter on the x100v it’s as big as the Q. I do love that 28mm focal length.
      I’m still happy with the Fuji. Thanks for the comment!

      @@AaronAnalog1 thanks for the video. I wish I could loan you my Q 😊 I have been searching g for a pocketable camera to get me close to as happy as I am with the Q. Leica XE, D’Lux, X2, Ricoh Gr2, X100S, The x100s came the closest so I’m ordering a X100v.
      It’s a shame someone can’t make a tax sharp compact that’s cheaper and perfect. The Yashica T4 was a perfect cheap pocketable film camera. It shouldn’t be this hard. 😃

    I too have been bit by the bug in wanting a Q…Q2…Q2 Mono. Alas, I just can’t bring myself to it. I’d go as a far to say, this is not even a camera you should save for. This is a camera that if you have the disposable income sitting in your account and buying one would deplete your savings by no more than 30%…go for it. So yeah, this regrettably remains a Unicorn for me. No doubt its a great camera to own and shoot with, but there ain’t no value in it compared to what else the market offers.

    • @AaronAnalog1
      @AaronAnalog1  3 роки тому +1

      Great point about it not being a camera you save for, just rely on disposable income, I’ll get there one day!
