I don't think any of them could understand the frustration of working so hard and dedicating your life to something you love only to be upstaged by someone younger with a natural gift. Oikawa is the definition of a burned out gifted kid. Good but never good enough. Always a person better than you. Imagine being looked down almost by everyone while seeing a person younger than you being called the best and just better than you in every way possible. Suga was the same but instead of jealousy he strived to support them from the sidelines. But Oikawa hit too close to home. Most of us relate to him.
Suga is not the same, he didn't really dedicate his life for volleyball, he didn't continue playing after high school either. Suga knows his limits, Oikawa doesn't.

Many people hate him for almost hitting Kageyama and at first I did to. That’s until I realized he was just a kid who was filled with so much stress and anxiety because he thought he was going to be replaced, and he had worked so hard to get to where he was at. And that stress/anxiety kinda just took over him at that time. Well that’s how I see it. Also the confidence he has know is just improvement and character development. I’m proud to see it
one of the most realistic characters, while not my all-time favourite character, i LOVE Oikawa's character development in growth especially post-timeskip. This was such an amazing video. I loved how you displayed Oikawa’s journey as a player and his emotions throughout. I relate to Oikawa quite a bit. I am a ski racer on a National level and as someone who was never born with this natural instinct and talent that other people have been given I have worked incredibly hard to complete at the level I am at. A lot of the time I do get knocked down and constantly feel urge that I need to be better. Especially against my fellow teammate who is one year younger then me but is one of my biggest competition. I kinda think of her as the Kegeyama to my Oikawa, except for the fact that she is my best friend and I love her dearly. She has this insane natural talent and is an incredible skier. She has always been one step behind me with me struggling to stay ahead. I am not trying to say she has not worked hard, but her natural ability to the sport has made her not need to be as driven. Sometimes I just feel as though she doesn’t care about or love the sport and it’s just frustrating how she is still so talented despite that. Thank you for making this! Excuse my little vent lmao :))

i have a love hate relationship with oikawa since he’s one of the biggest walls karasuno has to face but he’s really such a well written character, watching those around him getting better, feeling like he’s being left behind, no way to catch up. watching him stop playing volleyball is heartbreaking but when we finally see him overcome his struggle, we see his talents light up the stage especially in the olympic game between argentina vs japan. i have a lot of favorites in haikyū but tōru will always have a special place in my heart 💕 (this edit also made me remember how pretty he is 😳)
I feel as though a lot of the people who don't like Oikawa, even to the point of hating him, are kids watching Haikyuu instead of adults. Yes, he's kind of an asshole. Definitely a little shit. But he's also a child with a MAJOR inferiority complex, and he uses his bluster and condescension as a shield to mask that. He absolutely grows throughout the course of the series; from hating Tobio because he sees him as a natural to telling Ushiwaka that Kurasano is NOT to be underestimated; and even if Oikawa himself couldn't defeat Shiratorizawa, his kouhai and the rest of Karasuno are coming for them. As he grows and matures with the Argentinian team, he eventually is able to face Tobio as an equal. No complex, no hard feelings: just the genuine love they both have for the game, and their drive to win. He doesn't allow his injury to slow him down, and moves past his childish feelings because he just loves volleyball *that much.* To hate Oikawa, I feel like you have to be a child like he is; and thus not be able to see him as just a kid who works as hard as he possibly can at a sport that he loves, even to the point of injuring himself, and *still doesn't see himself as good enough.* He doesn't deserve pity, but he does deserve sympathy, and understanding. He's just a kid, and he's learning. It takes him a lot of time, and he makes mistakes, but those mistakes are forgivable, and he overcomes them.

Never hated Toro Oikawa. When I saw him back when Haikyuu first came out, I felt connected. As I watched his journey, I got angry but not at him but at myself mainly because Toro's so relatable, working hard to hone his skills into something better without losing himself. To fight against those who are better and more skilled than him, "Prodigies" who come in all shapes and forms and make a person feel like they're not good enough. I know this feeling well and having doubts, anxieties and self loathing for your own gifts because someone else is better than you is mentally sickening and draining. So when Oikawa almost hit Kageyama I cried, because I knew what he was going through mentally and felt bad for both of them. Tobio because he looked up to Toro as a role model and inspiration, and Oikawa himself who never got far even though he was perceived as an amazing setter. Ushijima wanted him to go to Shiratorizawa because he saw Oikawa's talents, but Oikawa didn't want a handicap, he wanted to get ahead doing what he felt was best, looking for something far greater than staying rooted where he was. I commend him for it and I wish he didn't get the hate he deserves because he's really one of the few relatable characters in Haikyuu. *You did a beautiful job portraying Oikawa through this amv, it shows how he's seen, how he sees others and his internal struggles. Keep it up hun ☺️*

Its the same ways high school seniors look at freshman in sports teams. Senior say each generation is getting faster and faster, and the seniors feel frustrated because they've trained so hard and so long to be upstaged by somebody with 25% of their experience. One problem I have with this unfortunately is that there is no such thing as an untrained gift. Gifts appear over time as you train. Do you think somebody is going to run a sub-5 minute mile after only 3 weeks of running training? People who can run sub-5 minutes are naturally gifted, but that gift did not appear until they started training. Actually, sub-5s are pretty much mandatory if you want to be competitive. Gifts only show up after hard work, and even so, I do believe Oikawa has a natural gift, and he doesn't realize he has it. He wants to beat those who are naturally gifted, and will stop at nothing to achieve this. This gives him the determination and drive to beat some who are naturally gifted. If he keeps his determination going, he can possibly be one of the best players out there.

Never hated Toro Oikawa. When I saw him back when Haikyuu first came out, I felt connected. As I watched his journey, I got angry but not at him but at myself mainly because Toro's so relatable, working hard to hone his skills into something better without losing himself. To fight against those who are better and more skilled than him, "Prodigies" who come in all shapes and forms and make a person feel like they're not good enough. I know this feeling well and having doubts, anxieties and self loathing for your own gifts because someone else is better than you is mentally sickening and draining. So when Oikawa almost hit Kageyama I cried, because I knew what he was going through mentally and felt bad for both of them. Tobio because he looked up to Toro as a role model and inspiration, and Oikawa himself who never got far even though he was perceived as an amazing setter. Ushijima wanted him to go to Shiratorizawa because he saw Oikawa's talents, but Oikawa didn't want a handicap, he wanted to get ahead doing what he felt was best, looking for something far greater than staying rooted where he was. I commend him for it and I wish he didn't get the hate he deserves because he's really one of the few relatable characters in Haikyuu.

Its the same ways high school seniors look at freshman in sports teams. Senior say each generation is getting faster and faster, and the seniors feel frustrated because they've trained so hard and so long to be upstaged by somebody with 25% of their experience. One problem I have with this unfortunately is that there is no such thing as an untrained gift. Gifts appear over time as you train. Do you think somebody is going to run a sub-5 minute mile after only 3 weeks of running training? People who can run sub-5 minutes are naturally gifted, but that gift did not appear until they started training. Actually, sub-5s are pretty much mandatory if you want to be competitive. Gifts only show up after hard work, and even so, I do believe Oikawa has a natural gift, and he doesn't realize he has it. He wants to beat those who are naturally gifted, and will stop at nothing to achieve this. This gives him the determination and drive to beat some who are naturally gifted. If he keeps his determination going, he can possibly be one of the best players out there.
