- This is my first 100 mile mountain race. If your new, My name is Paul and I started running beginning of 2023. 100 days in I completed the 6th hardest marathon on earth. After that I ran 80 miles in a 24 hour challenge and placed 2nd. I went on to run a 50 miler on Catalina Island, 50k near Folsom Lake, 100k In Oregon (my first dnf) where people where messing with the course markers, and now this.
This is one of the toughest 100 milers around. Being close to home I signed up. Solitude is something I enjoy about long distance running. In this 100 miler I find I enjoy solitude only so long. I hope you enjoy my film. This film Highlights both loops of the Cool Moon course. There are MANY races during the Cool Moon 100. Their race website and information are below. Message me on this films comments or Instagram for more information, or just to say hi. Cheers!
Cool Moon Race: coolmoon100.co...
The course consists of a 13.5-mile (North) loop and an 11.5-mile (South) loop, upon which runners will complete in the order of North, then South. Each runner will complete (4) 13.5-mile loops and (4) 11.5-mile loops to achieve the 100-mile distance. Runners will start North on a 13.5-mile, counter-clockwise loop from Cool Firehouse, running two miles down the historic Western States trail, heading up Pig Farm trail/to the top of K2. then parts of Olmstead trail to the Ranch, then South on Olmstead to some amazing back country single track then to the Salt Creek Loop Trail south toward the American River and back up the various single track, The Ranch, then back to Cool. Next, they will follow an 11.5-mile loop from Cool Firehouse South down Knickerbocker trail to Blue Oak trail, Olmstead, various connectors and across Triple Creek to Knickerbocker, then South on Olmstead to the Rim Trail, to Pilot Hill, then Olmstead to Catecroft, hidden lake trails, back to Knickerbocker, and back to Cool. The course is extremely well-marked.

Beautiful place to learn about yourself !
@maryanneparsons5242 agreed. I know now I need pacers for this kinda race. I don't know how people do these solo.
Great video!! Thanks for sharing. Excited to hear about your next adventure
Thanks, Jeff! I almost didn't make this one because I dnf'd, again... I had a lot of people pushing for me to make it, to show my struggle to 100 miles. I really wasn't expecting to get so bored and lonely. Next time I'll definitely have pacers to keep me company. I can't wait for my next run. I need a redemption race! Hope your training is going well.
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle I am so glad you made this video. People need to see the struggle. It happens to everyone. It is the way we grow and improve. It seems as though most people only highlight the victories. I think it is valuable to share the struggles as well because it is bound to happen to everyone eventually if they are pushing themselves.
Look who's back!
Back again
Paul is back...
Feels good to be back. Now I gotta keep it going.
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle You could've kept it going but didn't tell a friend 🤷♂
I Never understood running, just go to a bar.
You run for hours and end up sweaty and tired, go to a bar for a couple hours you'll have a big smile on your face and feeling refreshed and cool in the A/C, plus some bars have chicken wings 😁
🤣. I prefer breweries over bars.
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle 🤣as longs as they have wings 🤣
We were surprised to learn that you DNF'd in this event. Honestly, after your last debacle in Oregon, this race seemed, well, clearly more organized, and more runners, but more to your "liking" being local, nice terrain etc. You say you just got bored? What are we going to do about that 😆If it's local, Patti and I can bring pom-poms lol!!
@SippyCupAdventures 🤣. I know, this was supposed to be my redemption run! 2 dnf's in a row 🙄. It's all good, though. I'm throwing myself into this Ultra world and learning really fast. If I had pacers to keep me company, I would've kept going. I was just plain lonely, something I never considered being an issue. I learned. I'll have my redemption run soon. Also, the 48-hour ultra at Whitney Ranch is so much fun, and I'll finally get my 100-mile belt buckle. I seriously don't get how people can solo run a mountain 100. It gets extremely lonely. Next time I'm getting pacers.
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle I mean, we will join you. Do they have golf carts available? 😂
@@SippyCupAdventures 🤣
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle let us know when the Whitney 48-hour Ultra is.
Hope to see you out next year. This was my second Cool Moon 100 and dear to my heart. I may drop down to a shorter distance next year, but I'll be out there for sure.
@@wk633 Awesome. It's an amazing adventure out there 🤙
come try the moab 240
Someday, I do plan on doing that race. I wanna get a touch more experience under my belt first. It definitely looks like an epic race.
It's 240miles of blood sweat and pain but there is no feeling like making it to that line
