Shut off water. Cut out leak. Put in new pipe. Charge $350.
How much would you charge?
If you don't want to solder, sharkbite coupling (cut, deburr, replace, add ground wire), turn water back on.
If you don't want to pay that do it yourself, it's that simple. Otherwise supply and demand dictates price.
@@keldon_champion nah
@@acwright nah to what, doing it yourself or that it's supply and demand? If the demand was lower businesses would lower rates to undercut and get the work as it stands right now there is way more work than people willing and able to do it. That is supply and demand, the price is high because you can pay the asking price or I have people lined up around the block who will.
Man I'm telling you. Roger is a true asset to the community! Love how he shares his Knowledge for us homeowners and small time guys! If you're unsure of a gadget just wait till Roger gets around to it. He will put your mind at ease!
I appreciate that! Do you have any specific product you would like me to review?
Saw the sign at your house and dropped a sub
That’s awesome! You live nearby?
I would probably go after that one the old fashioned way.
Cut about 5 inches out including the hole. Slip couplings, possible pipe rounder. Sand it. Flux it. Torch it. Channel locks to slide the slips in place. Solder it. Soaking rag to clean it and cool it.
Same way I've done it probably 400-500 times, couldn't even begin to tell you how many of these types of leaks I've repaired.
One of the coolest ways I was taught was if it's a pinhole, sand a good 4 inch section around the hole, cut it tight at the hole, Flux it. Pull apart. One slip coupling. Then slide the coupling until it's about halfway one each end of the pipe with hole as close to center. So clean and easy.
Love this channel ❤️
Roger I've never seen this repair device until today. Looks pretty good for a homeowner to get by until he can get someone to solder a repair coupling on.
Side note. You really shot a mouse with a 50 cal using that impact wrench. That things gotta have 500+ ft pounds of torque.
Yeah lol wanted to make sure it was on good 😅😂
Does this work on pex?
Probably.
But pex would be easier for an average guy to fix.
I'm not sure I've ever had a leak in a place that would have worked. I always seem to get them at joints and elbows.
I think if your going to cut a hole in dry wall just fix the leak. Tou can learn the basics of how to solder in an hour or 2, you probably won't be able to make a pretty joint but you can make it not leak. When i went through HVACR trade school thats all the basic soldering and brazing class was and we had to submerge a sealed pipe with 200psi of nitrogen in water and get no bubbles. Learning to solder is a valuable skill and the small investment of time to learn is well worth it and there is of course more advanced things to learn but my instructors exact words where "learning to braze copper to copper doesn't get you paid because any monkey with a torch can learn to do it, it is your knowledge that is valuable" and he ia 100% right any idiot can stick 2 copper pipes together and make it not leak.
Slamm it in there and keep it moving 💯
😂, thats only 2 steps
I would just cut the pipe and put a sharkbite on and not worry about calling the plumber at all….. 🤠
Shark bites are sketchy, I just repiped a home with hella sharkbite fittings. Don’t get me wrong they can work in a pinch but don’t fool yourself into thinking it’s all good. There’s real liability in being dismissive towards an insured and licensed company and you’re taking on the risk of fiddling with things you might not fully understand.
@@zanderotn8212the shark bites tested on the channel all survived up to 1500 psi , sounds fine for residential
So why are there not enough plumbers?
Because they won't train new ones despite receiving record numbers of applications and interest from young people. I was told by the union and employers there are mass amounts of applicants but they aren't hiring new people. They only want fully trained journeymen and wonder why there aren't enough.
