I can´t believe the dream team the put together for this event. It´s just heaven for a music lover like me, and I just finished listening this and it´s like....OMG, what just happened!! i know I will be listening this for the next weeks or even months. Cyndi Lauper was just....freaking awesome!!
I know in my bones that I saw this performance when it first aired, but I haven't seen it since... "OH MY GOD, WHAT A LINE UP!!" ...and yes I love me some Ray Charles ya'll!
I was born in '75 and listened to Cyndi in her prime and as many people, throughout the years with every new popular release. But I never paid too much attention to her, other than recording tapes with She Bop along with many more 80's songs of other artists. I happened to be 45 years old and find out how gracious and talented she really was. I wish I could go back in time and live her career with full enthusiasm.
this was so dang good!! I remember it like it was yesterday on the prime time 6th anniv special! She is soooooo talented. How is she not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame????? She has blown the lid off venues singing great rock songs. She also does multi-genres well! Go listen to her sing live for the JONI MITCHELL TRIBUTE show, singing Carey, or for the Obamas, singing Try a Little Tenderness!!!!!!!! And I adore her cover of "What's Going On" that went to #12 in the mid-80s. She did Marvin Gaye proud!
That amazing are you Cyndi Lauper...... so underrated and so so so wonderfull artist!!!! You are big...you will be legend... yuo are a living legend. I love you
Saw this on TV live.... it was ELECTRIC..... stood right out of my seat in the living room... one of the great live performances.... ( though the sound is terrible on this clip)....and one of the greatest ensembles of musicians on one stage EVER....
I lived for Dave's anniversary shows all through his run on NBC, and I'll go to my grave believing that Cyndi Lauper's "Money Changes Everything" was the finest female vocal performance of the '80s decade.
I agree with BOTH of you! To THIS day, I STILL watch the video for "Money Changes Everything" because it continues to blow me away time after time! Hey, look what I just did there! No pun intended! As a matter of fact, before I read these comments, I was going to go watch the video for "Money Changes Everything" right after I finished watching THIS video!! It still blows me away, what? Thirty-five, thirty-six years later? WOW! #cyndilauperrulesandmadonnadrools
@Cynthia Corcoran I'm not sure I understand your comment. What did you mean when you wrote, "I recorded as Cyndi in the 60s it wasn't as by ish."? This statement puzzles me. Sorry about that, but I can't make heads or tails of it.
So, the 6th anniversary in the Ed Sullivan Theater would have been August of 1999. CBS has the master tapes of this... why hasn't it been released in High Def?
"REAL SOUL SINGERS & MUSICIANS" not like today's so called soul/R&B singers. Man, what a line-up! This is real talent, probably never to be seen again.
04:25 is when they start, and 09:05 when Larry Bud Melman announces that the 1988 Tony Awards, brought to you by Prell Concentrate will continue after station identification make this 5 minutes of heaven! LOVE MISS LAUPER AND MR JOEL, and all those great instrumentalists and vocalists made it sooo fun!
Oh wow! What a performance by the singers... especially by Cyndi😊I guess Billy Joel had a hangover or thinks he is cool in sunglasses 🙆 Would have been nice to see his eyes or maybe the bright lights were too much for his eyes...who knows📺
Anton was no stranger to Cyndi, he performed a bit on her hit album "She's So Unusual." Figure she'd return the favor by performing with him and Paul Shaffer's band.
Dmattmc Or....judging by Larry "Bud" Melman saying "The 1988 Tonys...." Or.....reading that this is the 6th anniversary show, finding out Dave started in 1982, and doing the math.
At this time I was not watching David Letterman..But I wished I would have seen this..WOW!!!Cyndi was..FANTASTIC!! Sad to say that some of these artists are no longer with us..but this was awesome! What year was this? And was this the last show Letterman did for NBC before coming to CBS?
All sound this century and rest of time now is Alamater at eleven years old soprano at royal seven years old. Cynthia Corcoran as Cyndi Lauper. Im cloud streaming SOUND. Previously recorded sound. Tonight show
For those who would try to compare Madonna with Cyndi Lauper, THIS video is the living proof Cyndi Lauper is way more relevant and more talented than Madonna. It's impossible to imagine Madonna trying to perform with all these accomplished artists since she NEVER was able to carry a tune on stage.
I will be fair. Madonna put out some great songs and was an excellent dancer, though not on par with Toni Basil, Janet Jackson or Paula Abdul (personal opinion - Jackson not withstanding, the others are still impressive at their age) What is evident in this video is the fact that Cyndi was involved in far more interesting musical projects. She worked with the greats. She counts Patti Labelle and Cher as close friends. She's an activist in the truest sense. And while she has had her lower days (I remember her WWE period) she has since come on top with Grammys, Emmy and a Tony. And frankly, anyone who can get a stodgy Kennedy Award audience off their feet while singing a Cher tune in their elder years is on top to me.
I was there!! It was incredible!! Esp Cyndi Lauper
Can we first give it up for that opening duet between Carole King and Paul Shaffer! 👏🏽👏🏽
Amazing,so good great Legend 💪❤️💞 of soul 🔥🎺🎷🎸
Cindy has more powerful voice than any other female singer!
Cyndi Lauper gives 100% to everything she does I am a life long fan ..She is the Queen of POP!!

Agree. Saw it live and when I eventually found it on that new fangled UA-cam, I could get my fix as often as I liked plus share with a new generation
Cyndi Lauper is killing it. Amazing
No she did well!
I lived for Dave's anniversary shows all through his run on NBC, and I'll go to my grave believing that Cyndi Lauper's "Money Changes Everything" was the finest female vocal performance of the '80s decade.
It was ! She broke grounds for all female singers. With TRUE ARTISTIC RAW TALENT.
There can only be 1 Cindy
