The BEST Spartacus of our time, Mikhail Lobukhin...he is perfect in this role and every other Grigorovich ballet. Marianna was beautiful as well, she reminded me of Natalia Bessmertnova around 4:46 in the sense that she was absolutely fearless and never hesitated and 100% trusted her partner and threw herself into the choreography and music. Absolutely glorious!
@John Doe Don't even get me started about Stepanova and Smirnova as Aegina...I saw that and my jaw dropped and not in a good way. And I think it's silly that Lobukhin isn't cast in classics; I think he is an amazing Albrecht, he makes me actually feel for the character instead of just hate him. I also love him as Solor, the powerful and strong warrior. I want to see him as Jean de Brienne in Raymonda and I think his Siegfried would be very interesting. I also don't know why he hasn't danced in Rubies yet; that could be so good.
@John Doe Yes, I agree. The Bolshoi used to be about individuality and now it's about conforming to the Devil Vaziev's vision of the "ideal dancer". Lobukhin isn't tall and lean, so he isn't seen as the "Prince". He's still my favorite male dancer at the theatre though, followed very closely by Vladislav Lantratov. I honestly find Yana Selina slightly boring. I think she's good in solo variations, but can she carry an entire ballet? I don't think so.
@John Doe Maybe Queen of the Dryads would work well for her. It doesn't really need any personality, just good technique. And RBV is just delusional lol.
The music and choreography are exceptional and the dancers are as well. They clearly expressed their longing and passion while maintaining a strong technique. C❤❤
