I have been 3D printing for over 10 years and have owned no less than a dozen printers to include two Delta printers. I have owned 3 Ender 3 printers and sold two of them because I have a Prusa and a Anycubic Kobra2 V2 and both of these put even my old highly modified Ender 3 printers to shame. I still have my very first printer which was an original Ender 3. This printer has been modified with many upgrades to include the 32 bit silent board. I almost threw it away, but put it into storage because it is my first. I am about to upgrade it with a BIGTREETECH SKR Mini E3 V3.0 Control Board, and the CR Touch. I hope it works because this old printer has printed hundreds of jobs and has a special place in my heart. I will say that the Kobra 2 is a bad ars printer and will print 10 times faster than an Ender 3 for only a few dollars more. They are around $200, but have so many good features and print at laser fast speed that they are in fact in my opinion one of the best values out there!
just installed the kit. your video is the only one I've found that actually helped. I have been trying to figure out how to set this up all afternoon, and I finally have a good resource to help me out. Thank you for a great video.
I would recommend adding the G29 after the gcode that sets the bed temp and waits for it to stabilize, so that the leveling happens on a bed that is at temp rather than a cold bed. For spring steel beds the difference can be significant.
This is a great video. I'm a noob to 3D printing so as you can probably agree on with me, things are not as they seem to a new guy. I put an upgrade 2nd Z drive on my Ender 3 and that was easy, then I wanted to upgrade to a cr-touch sensor and installed it without any problems, but from there I had a hard time configuring everything until I came to this video as just nothing would work right or at all at times. Thank you for being kind to share your knowledge to people like me who are too old to learn fast anymore, just the amount of different operating versions for the ender 3 is mind boggling! . Nuff said! I subbed your channel in the hope of finding more morsels of handy info on programming and set ups. Best regards and Thanks again.
This is the most complete video I found talking about the cr touch sensor adjustment , you rock buddy... thank you very much for your time doing this great video
Finally a detailed video I'm glad I came across. the install was a pain to figure out with the sub-par motherboard I had I'm my model of the 3 pro. My auto level was just an accessory, and I figured I just wasted money. I was still able to do hundreds of prints with minimal bed leveling because of my locking bed wheel adjusters but an added layer of bed level is great when I'm in a hurry and need to get a print going without all the hassle. 👍
Dude I have been struggling to get my prints going. Thank you so much for going so deep into this. Finally got my printer set up right! not sure i could have gotten it going right without your help.
Just purchased my CR Touch direct from creality, and an original ender 3 for only £130 in a christmas sale, totalling £167 for an ender 3 with an ABL probe. good deal if you ask me
Where is a link to the previous videos you mentione where you updated the Ender 3? I need that more than I need to figure out how to level the bed. How the heck to we instll the software?????
Here you go www.thingiverse.com/thing:3235018 Ill update the description to include it to. The one I used in this video is the 'Bed Level' gcode, not the one that prints.
Your supposed auto home machine then get the nozzle 0.1 mm from the bed using a feeler gauge moving it ONLY with move z axis then record that number. Auto home the machine then go to z offset and input the number you recorded then store settings!
So have an ender 3 pro. Upgraded to the 4.2.7 board and cr touch. Cr touch seems to work fine but when I load any type of leveling gcode, the nozzle goes to each area and lowers down. But then just goes back up and to the next area and repeat. It doesn’t stop for adjustment or no button push to have it go to the next area. Any clue how to fix this? I would like to do as you do as far as manual level prior to using the CR
The CR Touch was one of the best buys as i get very few print problems and in my Cura settings it is always set to do a bed leveling before printing 👍👍👍another quick tip get the Silicone Hot Heat Bed Spacers but dont compress them.
I debating if the auto bed leveling upgrade is worth it. I'm able to get the bed level dialed in manually to where it works pretty dang good with my ender 3 pro
You keep saying click next when you're leveling manually, but what menu are you in? What setting are you using that allows you to move the bed to the levelling positions?

very interesting. im glad i watched this video. very informative. i just popped it on before im about to put on this 3d laser easy shroud swap and i dont know if i had to adjust my cr touch.. i learned that after leveling i should perform another auto level so the cr level doesnt still try making up for the adjusted hight even though i just thought i fixed it leveling my bed then just auto homing before running a print. i got a question though, how did you adjust your setting to automatically get your arm to move so quickly like that at @3:10 ish. thanks for the tips and advice! you earned a like a special spot in my special 3d printer youtube playlist and a new subscriber! thanks a ton for the info! never stop updating us pls
Not sure if it’ll be seen, but just added mine and updated the firmware. Manually leveled, did the bed leveling, changed the g code. Tried to print. It heats up, does the 9 test points, then starts printing way too high (maybe a millimeter or two above the plate) any advice?
Thank you for this video. After many attempts I think I finally understand this BUT why would one corner of my bed seem to be too high? Shouldn't the CR Touch automatically adjust for that? I'm really confused by that. Any advice?
Have a weird problem. After I manually level the bed I start the Motion - LEVEL BED the hot end movers to left front corner the probe checks height and it seems to high it then moves near center and probes there and the hot end (Nozzle) barely touches the bed. And stops there it does not check the rest of the 7 other probe points. really weird. Not sure what is going on.
After messing with this stupid thing for hours upon hours, i give up. Ive calibrated it many times, leveled it many times, when i hit go to home position it keeps putting it's self in the middle of the bed slightly right. I remember why i gave it up the first time lol Back in storage it goes. What printer would you guys recommend that actually work as intended? And somewhat budget friendly. I dont care to spend abit more. Ive gotten 1 successfully print from this pos when i first started with it. After that nothing but headaches.....
@GearsAndTech i love tinkering with things but I honestly i think this printer is just messed up, I bought it used. Ive watched hours of videos, googled a ton, tried soooo much lol it's fun to mess with but when I can't get anything to work after hours I started to lose my mind🤣
Great video!! I got the upgrade kit but have been making a bracket to work with the MDD Direct Drive upgrade. Only one out there is for the BL Touch. Is the G-code necessary for the CR Touch to work or does it work off the saved coordinates? If you need to do the auto leveling each time you print that seems like a lot of extra work. Often times I print parts of an object to measure and make sure it will be correct. Doing the leveling each time seems excessive. Like to hear your thoughts on that. Thanks!!
You don't need to level the bed each time. But you do want the cr touch to run a bed level check prior to every print It's worthwhile doing the bed level manually from time to time as it can get out of level from use. But certainly not every time you print
I have nothing but problems since the CR touch “upgrade” Nothing sticks. I believe I have my z-offset settings correct. The filament is squeezing won’t the nozzle ever so slightly and makes a mess around the nozzle when leveling the bed. By the time the print starts, there is so much crap on the nozzle that it pulls any filament off the bed as I try to print.
Is there a way to get a Creality SonicPad to communicate with a CRtouch installed on a printer that didn't come with it by default (in my case a CR10V2)?
My Ender came with the cr touch. However I’ve lowered the z axis to -5 and I’m literally 3/8” off the plate. The thumb screws do not get me close enough. I do not see an adjustment I. The mounting plate for the tough mechanism. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
My E3 does not like the CR, flashed every BL and or CR ware and all work, move axis, pre heat hotend but auto home is backwards, zeros X and Y, goes to center and Z goes POS, up, probes dead air and goes POS again and probes the air again, ?
Maybe this help but once I stored and started my test print the nozzle pressed into glass, I had to fine tune it during print job and restore, I will test again on another print test tomorrow morning
Great tip! I noticed sometimes my settings don't load from last time When that happens it defaults to Chinese, so I know I need to go back in and setup the defaults
I tried everything you said in the video. Homed it, z offset and manual bed leveling but, it acts like it is too close to the bed and no adhesion. What am I missing?
I'm having an issue where my Z axis is not saving no matter what I try. I go step by step and set the Z axis then hit store settings but every the Z axis reverts to default. Any ideas?
I don't have "probe z-offset" on my screen. What gives? I have GD-Ender-3 V2-Marlin2.0.8.2-HW-V4.2.2-SW-V1.0.7_E_N_BLTouch firmware installed on my ender 3 v2
I needed to readjust my ender 3 pro with the BL touch because my prints keep coming off halfway through prints. Wastes alot of time. Also, i have a problem where my entire gantry falls down when the stepper motors arent engaged. I installed an Anti Backlash Nut and it still falls down. Anyone have any info on this happening???
Im having an issue finding the cr touch firmware for the original stock ender 3. its a 4.2.2 motherboard but there is a bunch of stuff regarding the cr touch on the website so im not sure what file im suppose to download. Ive downloaded the 32 bit motherboard file and used the non adaptor bin file and didnt work. ive tried the cr touch or bltouch file as well and didnt didnt flash over.
Glad I came across this, my biggest issue is at the start of the gate. turn it on and hit the auto home button. after that my Z is set to 10mm, my Z well not go down it just keeps going up.
I installed the CR touch and now it wont read the sd card. It says no TF card. I have read some threads saying i need a new board, I need to reflash a different firmware. i am about ready to throw the thing away and go back to manual leveling. can someone point me in the right direction?? thanks in advanced.
So why did I spend $40 that I don't really have in excess on an "automatic" leveler when I still have to do everything entirely manually? With the $40 gone and the pretty light on the leveler that glows whenever it touches the bed, I still can't get a single layer to come out right out of the 50+ tests I've done. I have genuinely spent 10 or more hours trying to level my bed, doing test after test after test after test. Am I actually just the stupidest person on Earth? I have no idea how to make this "auto" leveler work.
Sounds like you're auto leveler isn't working. Make sure it's connected to the right port and you have the right software installed. Then make sure you added the auto leveler code into your software settings. When it's working it works great
I also recently wasted like 50 dollars on one & got the firmware updated, but now the printer doesn't print at all, the damn CR Touch just touches the bed a few times, moves around, Z goes up a bit & doesn't print & the "print process bar" just starts going up & auto homes without anything printing......
@@buzz7313 Turns out you REALLY have to manually level the bed for the printer to continue working, but I also REALLY recommend not buying any auto level kit, just manually level it the first time & leave it as is
Unfortunately I'm not too sure. I have a new printer that I got off a guy who got fed up with it. So I'll be making more videos of me trouble shooting it
im not sure what I did wrong i have done the manual update I updated the prefences in ulti maker cura and still my nozzle is to high even after saveing the infomation did i do something wrong? or is anyone else having this issue
For some reason mien doesn't always load my z offset when I turn it on I can tell when this has happened because it also reverts to Chinese. If that happens I will go back in and manually set the z offset and its fine
Here you go www.thingiverse.com/thing:3235018 Ill update the description to include it to. The one I used in this video is the 'Bed Level' gcode, not the one that prints.
Of course it will mask an unlevel bed. The whole point of auto bed leveling is so you don’t have to level the bed ever again because it will print on an unlevel bed
Thanks for sharing tips & tricks, but please, please, please, lose that fake blank movie footage background. The random strobing effect is at best highly distracting and worst case, could trigger someone's epilepsy. ('Just because I can, doesn't necessarily mean I *should*....')
@@GearsAndTech Too young to have seen actual film movies? ;-) Those of us of a certain age saw that effect fairly often when watching instructional films in school. No; the opening is just fine. But the still shots and inserted video shots that are smaller than the full YT window size, have white space filler around them that looks like it's simulating an old film movie with nothing on the film except dust, hair, scratches on the film stock, etc. Constant flickering around the subject matter, with the 'dust & hair fibers' dancing around. At ~1:22, & from 7:18 to around 9:07, again ~9:07 - 9:40. The constant flicker/strobe effect was very distracting, at least for me. I do hope you read this as constructive; I really do appreciate you posting the info!
I have the Z at 0. When I **manually** adjust all the corners for the **auto** leveler, the paper is perfectly snug between the nozzle and the bed. Then nothing comes out right with this magical auto leveler. I can get the exact same results for $40 cheaper. And - really - I could get the exact same results of absolutely no end products without the price of the printer itself and all the filament I've wasted so far on all the failed tests. I could have hundreds of dollars in my bank account for the amount of things I've made thus far. And it's not like Creality has any type of customer support.
"It's not critical that we get this perfect because we do have a auto bed leveler." What a joke. So, assuming you're not perfect enough to manually adjust the bed to make prints come out right, and you've already bought a $40 gadget that does absolutely nothing, how are you supposed to get it perfect so that you can actually make something with the expensive machine you bought?
The whole "leveling" nomenclature needs to die off; you're not leveling the bed, you're tramming it. Calling it "leveling" is confusing to newcomers to the hobby; Leveling implies that you're attempting to get the surface parallel with gravity (e.g.: perfectly level), when you're actually attempting to get it parallel with the tool head along both the X and Y axes, which may not end in a flat plane with the tool head due to frame imperfections and such.

Nothing sticks. I believe I have my z-offset settings correct.
The filament is squeezing won’t the nozzle ever so slightly and makes a mess around the nozzle when leveling the bed.
By the time the print starts, there is so much crap on the nozzle that it pulls any filament off the bed as I try to print.
Need to do some z offset to bring the nozzle closer to the bed
What software are you using from the crealty site. Having issues finding the write file. I have a ender 3 like yours
The actual slicer? I usually use prusa
Sorry what file did you download for your ender for the cr touch. Having issues finding the right file
Is there a way to get a Creality SonicPad to communicate with a CRtouch installed on a printer that didn't come with it by default (in my case a CR10V2)?
I haven't tried. Sorry
i have the v2 and installed cr touch i see yours has a blue and purple light depending what it is doing. mine stays red or flashes red. any ideas
Sorry, I don't have any ideas
My Ender came with the cr touch. However I’ve lowered the z axis to -5 and I’m literally 3/8” off the plate. The thumb screws do not get me close enough. I do not see an adjustment I. The mounting plate for the tough mechanism. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
Something isn't right on your setup. You should be able to get a lot closer than that
Maybe you.have to adjust the end Point Switch of your z Axis a bit deeper...
The Bed Level Gcode link no longer works. Can you suggest another one?
I'll have to take a look
I was wondering the same thing. The CR touch is not working In my favor. Even after buying a new bed and pad 😂
I clicked on the link for the bed leveling g code but it says it was removed?
so for some odd reason my CR Touch goes off the bed and hit the bed when it comes back on it is there a reason why?
Your z offset is too low.
Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for!
Glad it was helpful!
My E3 does not like the CR, flashed every BL and or CR ware and all work, move axis, pre heat hotend but auto home is backwards, zeros X and Y, goes to center and Z goes POS, up, probes dead air and goes POS again and probes the air again, ?
Interesting issue, I'm sorry I can't help you solve it
THANK YOU ,, BUT I CAN'T FIND THE G-CODE FOR LEVELING (THE ONE THAT DOESN'T PRINT) ??
I linked it in description
@@GearsAndTech ,,thank you I think I found it,,just have to compile Marlin now for my specs..(what a headache)FML …..
Maybe this help but once I stored and started my test print the nozzle pressed into glass, I had to fine tune it during print job and restore, I will test again on another print test tomorrow morning
Great tip! I noticed sometimes my settings don't load from last time
When that happens it defaults to Chinese, so I know I need to go back in and setup the defaults
is there a gcode for the bed leveling that dosent print and pauses at every position
Yes. Link is in description
I tried everything you said in the video. Homed it, z offset and manual bed leveling but, it acts like it is too close to the bed and no adhesion. What am I missing?
If you are getting no adhesion you're not close enough to the bed
@@GearsAndTech I feel like I'm too close to the bed.
@@stevegriffith3598Elmer's stick glue on the print bed then if spacing isn't a concern.
I have ender-7 with cr touch leveling kit
The auto leveling really seems like way more effort than its worth.
When it's working right it's great
I'm having an issue where my Z axis is not saving no matter what I try. I go step by step and set the Z axis then hit store settings but every the Z axis reverts to default. Any ideas?
Although he doesn't say it, if you watch carefully, you can see that he presses "Load Settings" after pressing "Save Settings".
I don't have "probe z-offset" on my screen. What gives? I have
GD-Ender-3 V2-Marlin2.0.8.2-HW-V4.2.2-SW-V1.0.7_E_N_BLTouch firmware installed on my ender 3 v2
Need to flash different firmware
@@GearsAndTech yeah that was it. thanks man , appreciate it
But what firmware version did you end up going with?
Will this work on ender 5 pro?
Principles should be the same
I needed to readjust my ender 3 pro with the BL touch because my prints keep coming off halfway through prints. Wastes alot of time. Also, i have a problem where my entire gantry falls down when the stepper motors arent engaged. I installed an Anti Backlash Nut and it still falls down. Anyone have any info on this happening???
Your z motor is broken. It should be very hard to turn when it's not powered on
@@GearsAndTech How do you check that?
If you level opposite sides first you’ll get better results but other then that awesome video!
Agreed on leveling. The gcode goes in the order it goes.
But it does it twice, so by the end you should be pretty close
Is there g code leveling for the skr mini e3 v3 board?
Unfortunately not sure
Im having an issue finding the cr touch firmware for the original stock ender 3. its a 4.2.2 motherboard but there is a bunch of stuff regarding the cr touch on the website so im not sure what file im suppose to download. Ive downloaded the 32 bit motherboard file and used the non adaptor bin file and didnt work. ive tried the cr touch or bltouch file as well and didnt didnt flash over.
See if one of these help you

this actually helped! thank you so much. @@a_prsn
got the right file now thank you!

Thanks for the video!!
You bet!
Glad I came across this, my biggest issue is at the start of the gate. turn it on and hit the auto home button. after that my Z is set to 10mm, my Z well not go down it just keeps going up.
I had this happen and it had to do with the firm ware not boot loading properly and the z axis switch still being plugged in
I installed the CR touch and now it wont read the sd card. It says no TF card. I have read some threads saying i need a new board, I need to reflash a different firmware. i am about ready to throw the thing away and go back to manual leveling. can someone point me in the right direction?? thanks in advanced.
Something isn't hooked up right.
@@GearsAndTech like what? It goes around and probes the bed like normal? I have checked all the connections and they are connected
mine doesnt move around the bed it just does the center than goes home whatd i do wrong
Something is wrong. That's for sure
@@GearsAndTech I tried flashing new firmware I tried completely resetting everything so idk
There is some CRITICAL info in this video! Stuff not found elsewhere!
Thanks for noticing
@@AnimeFan_2013same
@@buzz7313 Turns out you REALLY have to manually level the bed for the printer to continue working, but I also REALLY recommend not buying any auto level kit, just manually level it the first time & leave it as is
Mine works great but I purchase aftermarket firmware. It didn’t work with the creality firmware
z is not moving and it said it is at 836.47. So now what do i do?
Unfortunately I'm not too sure. I have a new printer that I got off a guy who got fed up with it. So I'll be making more videos of me trouble shooting it
im not sure what I did wrong i have done the manual update I updated the prefences in ulti maker cura and still my nozzle is to high even after saveing the infomation did i do something wrong? or is anyone else having this issue
it contiues to go back to +5 on the Z axis and this is the 3rd time i level everything correctly
For some reason mien doesn't always load my z offset when I turn it on
I can tell when this has happened because it also reverts to Chinese.
If that happens I will go back in and manually set the z offset and its fine
Thanks most helpful.
No worries!
The Gcode file has since been removed, is does anyone have the file? - thanks
Unfortunately I don't know where it is now. Hopefully someone can post a link
im doing it now, testing now...wish me luck cuz
Good luck man
Hey man we desperately need that G Code please we struggling out here
Here you go www.thingiverse.com/thing:3235018
Ill update the description to include it to.
The one I used in this video is the 'Bed Level' gcode, not the one that prints.
THANK YOU!
You're welcome!
Of course it will mask an unlevel bed. The whole point of auto bed leveling is so you don’t have to level the bed ever again because it will print on an unlevel bed
For sure, but it's better for the machine and your prints to have the bed prettu level first
Yeah but then it has to take extra time to adjust the height and that time WILL add up
How come no one ever does anything on ender-7
I think not that many people have one, so less content to make
Not having the bed levelling gears attached to servos is so stupid
Some people can't afford all that fancy stuff
Im still fighting with it
It's a eternal struggle
My cr is off a bit
It's ok if it's off a bit. Just run the tuning I show and you'll be good
Thanks for sharing tips & tricks, but please, please, please, lose that fake blank movie footage background. The random strobing effect is at best highly distracting and worst case, could trigger someone's epilepsy. ('Just because I can, doesn't necessarily mean I *should*....')
Lol, what fake blank movie background?
Are you talking about my studio? That's real life
@@GearsAndTech Too young to have seen actual film movies? ;-) Those of us of a certain age saw that effect fairly often when watching instructional films in school.
3d printers are a tinkerers toy. You gotta love adjusting and readjusting.
Your background blank film is distracting when trying to follow your videos.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll see what I can do for future videos
"It's not critical that we get this perfect because we do have a auto bed leveler."
What a joke. So, assuming you're not perfect enough to manually adjust the bed to make prints come out right, and you've already bought a $40 gadget that does absolutely nothing, how are you supposed to get it perfect so that you can actually make something with the expensive machine you bought?
The auto leveler takes up the small imperfection of not getting it perfect.
You are 100% correct
Perhaps we need to qualify that we are leveling to the print head
Im about to throw it out a window 😅
I feel the same way.
