Condolences on the lose of Moses, Ronnie. That was a special relationship which was easy to see when you guys played together. Loved your “front porch” session and “Dreams”, among others (including the howling dog).
Thanks for this I have a cheap as chips (£130 ) GBS Harley Benton mighty 5th Pre amp 12AX 7 Going to invest and try 12AY 7 and I will let know what I think Power tube EL84 And some one has suggested 5AR4 Thank for all the free stuff on UA-cam it is very much appreciated
My Marble Blusonic has 12AT7 and 12AY7 pre amp tubes, the 12AY7 can be changed to a 12AU7, but mine has the 12AY and 5U4GB for extra power because I went for 3x8" speakers instead of standard 2x8
I’m still searching for the perfect tone. For now I’m playing Hohner Special 20’s thru a Jason Ricci custom mic, Lone Wolf Harp Attack pedal, and an Orange Crush R35 Watt amp. Still looking for the Dennis Greunling tone - but I can’t afford a Vintage Gibson tube amp.
His tone comes about 70% from his playing technique, 20% Mic technique, and 10% gear. He has amazing tongue blocking technique, which is what gives him that super thick and raunchy tone. Exactly why he sounds incredible on any mic/amp combo… it’s not the gear.
I got a Hohner HooDoo because it was half price and I wanted a small tubed amp for home practice. It really doesn't seem to have much "crunch" at all but I don't know if that's because it's only 5w. I've found it impossible to find any info about it and if I should consider modification. Any ideas what to do or who could help?
My advice is to sell that amp as quickly as you can. That project was a failure. Get into something that will work better like a Stage5 amp or any small tube amp that you can swap pre-amp tubes etc.

Thanks for this...got a fender pro junior and even with low z mics I have feedback issues.the little fatty pedal helps but diminishes the volume too much.
12ax7 is a hot tube, so it’s probably not that. Check to make sure the Weber speaking is not higher wattage than needed, as that will prevent breakup. The most important aspect of breakup is the mic technique used. You can go from clean to raunchy without changing amp or mic settings by going from unsealed to fully sealed mic grips.
3:45 really I mean the impact on the at the amp reacts which can allow you to get a better sound from your amp for blues harp.

Swap the tubes
@@norfolknwhey4787 yup...ordered a preamp tube right after watching Shellist's video.
@@stephenkatko3236 you can also try lowering the mic volume a bit, and seal off the mic/harp/face to get that thick raunchy tone without feedback.
I know it's hard to believe but you really gotta check my Harmonica out
What harmonica?
@@norfolknwhey4787 I gotta play it for you .. starting my channel soon , just waiting for approval ..
Was bias adjustment the word you were thinking of?? 9:52
YES!
Using a fender champ 600 with Weber speaker and upgraded circuit board stock tubs 6v6-12Ax7 could I get more crunch with a different tube selection.

That wasn't a comment that was a question???????¿
@@norfolknwhey4787 Weber speaker is 6 ohms 6 in. Same as fender stock
I can get it crunchy, but I have to be eight and above volume small room environment. Would a overdrive pedal help possibly the harp break??
@@markwalmsley5892 it sounds like one of your tubes is going out. With a 12ax7 it should be breaking up well before 8 with decent mic technique.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
