I got the cheapest mountain bike I could find and my other half refuses to use it as she doesn't like the blue and red colour scheme. Not worth the effort paying lots of money to sort it out - would cost more than the bike...and I really can't be bothered taking it to pieces....I was considering buying a lot of masking tape covering the break cables pedals gears chain etc to protect them then just roughly sanding it and spraying it a another colour. To my mind so long as she'll use it it doesn't matter if it looks slightly shoddy as that'll make it less of a theft target. I've had six bicycles and three 125cc scooters stolen in my time (joys of no garage) so anything to reduce that risk prob welcome. Will that corner cutting lazy method work? was thinking base coat and perhaps two shades of green to give a camo look then clear coat... My main concern is that around the masking some of the blue on and red may show through. Won't bother me but get the feeling my other half might still refuse to ride it thereafter as a result. Myself I couldn't care less. Other concern is messing up the moving bits if my lazy masking fails... But really don't want to take it completely to bits!!
masking all the parts is a not lazy work, actually it's more hard work to do just to mask all the parts, but its not a smart move for me, and also if the paint job does not come clean, your partner will still refuse to use it
but taking off all the parts and paint the frame only is much more better, by doing it you can have a better coverage all over the frame,
painting is not as easy as 1 2 3, but I suggest do a flat black paint job thats the easiest paint job for me to do or any plain color with matte finish paint job

yes as long as you prepare the project properly so the paint will have better adhesion on the surface

kung bago nirepaint eh strip to metal na sa tingin ko ok lang naman, pero kung dating hindi din tinanggal ung pintura mas ok siguro na tanggalin nalang kasi lalong kakapal lang ung mga layer ng pintura

Lods, ganda ng repaint! Tanong lang din lods, naliha ko na ng 220 grit ang akin, pero medyo glossy pa din siya. Okay lang ba yun? O kailangan maging flat ang kulay nya?

What happens if I just tape the stuff I don’t want painted
paint will build up around the masked area and if you removed it will be like engraved
but you can smoothen or level them together using clear coat

if you can't take off all the parts, you must do the hard work by masking and covering the parts that wont be painted

I would love to repaint my bike, but disassembling it is too daunting. I fear I may be unable to reassemble it and end up with an unusable bike.
