Castles never fetch much money. Especially when they are listed. In the UK, if your building is listed you can prepare to put your money in the garbage. The "so-called" historical department would rather you burn it to the ground that allow you to have anything modern inside, or even a non-approved color. There have been countless buildings which fell to ruin because they were unwilling to bend on their extremist views.
Also, castles are amazing expensive to maintain. You can expect your yearly costs for such a building to well exceed 100k per year. New roof? Just the scaffolding will set you back 70k.

It was always kind of cold, a real eye opener. The small, warm and cozy appartments I lived in after that experience really made me appreciate them much more. Never go big if you can't afford the whole package of heating and maintenance year round. Or buy in Southern France or Italy instead.

Now after Brexit and seeing how the French really are toward British there are hundreds of UK owned properties for sale at knock down prices. Same in Spain, Italy .........

Some years ago, when I had money, I had inscribed myself with a specialised castle real-estate broker in France. I was absolutely taken aback that they had new castles and manors for sale EACH week. Apparently, France is literally littered with them which is surprising, given the enormous amounts of war the French tend to wager internally. The problem with these castles and mansions is that it takes millions to restore and the French have no National Heritage as a back-up. They do not care for their history.
