I will be 72 in August and they have cut my food stamps and my phone bill is going back up even though we got a little raise when your house payment is 662 and you live on 840 a month with all the rest of the bills and the electric went up and can't hardly make it anymore and I live alone it's very hard
I was going to give up my home which has been paying for for many years but even a senior citizen home apartment with one bedroom you can't get into them because they're all filled up right now there's a 2-year waiting list and I can't even qualify with my social security check I don't make enough to qualify for a senior citizen apartment

SS by itself is non taxable if that your only income.
Anything that would increase the total amount would be awesome. No preference just an increase!
Raising a flat rate would be better. A one bedroom apt is an average of $1k a month. For seniors to get a one bedroom they to have an income of $3k a month. This is why you have a lot of homeless seniors now and seniors living in cars and vans. Seniors are very thankful for SS but for most seniors who live on SS alone , it is no where near enough.
Excuse me, SS wasn't meant to support you in retirement. It was meant as a supplement to your retirement. People have 45 to 55 years to put money away for retirement.

It is all they can do just to pay the bills when they come do because they do not make enough money. There is no saving for retirement. SS is it.
Where I live I pay only little over 500. Which includes my rent my WiFi and cable plus electric and tokens for laundry. Pretty cheap I can say. A flat rate would be better..

Not to be ungrateful, but this is a joke for so many reasons. Many seniors also rely on food stamps. And, as we have all figured out by now, as soon as COLA goes up food stamp benefits go down. My rent went up $130/month last year. The ACP has just closed their program so my phone/internet bill will go up $30/month in May. To say the government is working to help seniors is a travesty. Nevertheless, thank you Linda for all the work you do for keeping us up to date and many blessings to you and yours.
I agree, and I want this for my mom and dad, but for all of the elderly. They deserve to live comfortably, and I would love to see a fixed rate increase. Once signed into law, it should not be changed, just like the financial support we received during the pandemic. This promise was made a long time ago and now it's time to fulfill it. Seriously, it's necessary.
I am 71 years old I have worked since I was 16 and I was given early retirement social security because I was taking care of my mom when she had cancer and lost my job so I had to take early Social Security my Social Security was $540 a month! I had no insurance because when I lost my job my insurance stopped and then Obama Care went up to $2,000 a month for just me. I live alone thank God I had a good worker and she got me on EBT food allowance and they are taking my insurance for Medicare out of my money also now I have gotten raises since I'm 71 so I make $840 a month now and $250 in food stamps. The ACP program is ending my phone will be $45 a month again my food stamps went down and try to live on $240 a month for food and that doesn't count you have to buy all your paper goods and cleaning goods and all that with cash. Life insurance car insurance house payment of 662 a month I don't even have cable or Internet create I can't even make my bills . Food prices are up so high I used to eat on $250 a month easily but now you hardly get a few bags of groceries for that! I'm in Alabama I'm going down quickly
I don't understand when I lost my job I was making 16.50 an hour as an event director at a five star Resort on the beach. Had been there for 9 years and 8 years before that at another Resort and I've worked since I was 16 but when I retired my Social Security was $540 a month how do they figure that when I've been paying my Social Security since I was 16 years old working. This is crazy

Nope not $40, it was $914 in 2023 😮 and, then, at the end of the year the Letter from The Social Security Administration stated your monthly check would then, go up to $943, that’s only a $29 raise, duh! 😮

Hint people are disabled, hello! Disabled people are receiving it that proved they were disabled,that took them over 3 yrs to have their case heard and won and, in the meantime they sent medical records, took a physical exam and tests again for the Social Security Administration! I won my case because, the judge stated, I wasn’t sitting on my ……… 24/7 like most of these other people! People don’t work because, they don’t want to work, they don’t work because, they’re unable to do so, you will find out a majority of people will tell you that! 1-my father gets about $1,300 in deshability, his 60 years old, he plans to retire at 62,,,how much less money would he get ?
2-He just had a baby with a younger woman,,

Give us that CPIW formula, flat rate. $96 is better than 2% or less increase. I am considering dropping my prescription coverage to get an extra $31 a month. I am paying for coverage I can't even afford to use with an annual $500 deductible and then the tier costs.

Have Washington state stop looking at soc sec as earned income. I had to pay taxes last year..only 10 states still do this
This is amazing for seniors. How about SSI? I am a disabled mother 4 kids. My husband is blind. We get like 1200 together. Married couples get a combined income. Any ways. When will we get à raise? We do get SNAP. But we do not get the extra stamp for PEBT because we home school. The SSI we get does not even come close to cover any thing. We struggle bad.

I wish they would do a flat amount increase, instead of the current % increase. Those on the lower are more in need than those in the upper range of benefits. After all, those in the lower range are equally deserving as those in the upper bracket. Nuff said.

I'm in California. And I collect SS. But any increase in SS won't make any difference here because the auto insurance companies just posted a 30% increase in auto insurance, due to inflation. Most folks don't know it yet, but they'll find out when they renew their auto insurance. My auto policy went up $750 a year due to this 30% increase. I have no tickets for 50 years, no accidents, no claims, and yet, my policy sky rocketed. I called my carrier and asked them to justify this increase. They said inflation. I spent 2 days calling every insurance company, looking for a better quote. It becomes obvious that they are all working together to propagate the inflation excuse. Not only will this 30% increase in auto insurance eat up any SS increase, but more. I will actually become poorer. Well, there's always bologna sandwiches.

When I was 25 I wanted to work until full retirement but as medically would have it I was disabled at 55 ish, and have multiple things wrong with me, so one really never know s when they will retire

We got approximately a $50 car raise my housing Authority raised my rent by $54 and also section 8 went and raised their rents. This should be illegal. They should not be allowed to take our color raise and increase our rent which had to inflation, and makes us hurt even more.

The beginning of the next year( January ) whenever there's a new COLA. By October you will know if there's a COLA which might only be around 2% for 2025....

I think all Senators & Representatives should be average equivalent of Social Security Recipents including the Disability average included in the average but I also think should qualify for stamps provided they don't any other income.

The upcoming generation is dying younger because of poor junk food diets and the lack of exercise. Changing the retirement age for this group would be a disservice, if their life expectancy is shorter.

it is inevitable that we are going to live longer. and longer. also factoring in rebotics replacement, benefit programs like ss will become important to consumer hubs. eventually big business will see the value of benefit programs in unusual ways. a riding scale is preferred to a flat rate.
jacking the retirement age is futile. just leave it alone. government has partially mismanaged ss funds. that should be addressed. these funds are solid income that can be leveraged to increase on its own by investment. there is no reason ss will run out of funding with increasing demographic age. fear mongering and judgmental limitations have no place in government.

I live ina nice low income place , I wish it was seniors not mix with families. The family part don’t seem to care for property like seniors. They only care they can afford rent. It’s would be nice have a place affordable for seniors. The apartments going up is for the rich ones.

Illegals are not eligible. Not speaking English is not considered a disability.
