    So for those of you wondering where to get a new hook/clip to swap out your cordage for the prusik knot you can purchase them from the following link: questoutfitters.com/Fasteners_%20Misc_Hooks.htm#END_HOOKS

    I dig the upgrade to the Tyvek with the bungee cord. Good idea.

      Hello again. Thank you. Yeah I saw another guy on the UA-cam's implementing it with a piece of polycro and some super light elastic line from Walmart on his Lunar Duo. I'm still a bit weary on the polycro but his idea transferred very well to tyvek. And as far as the super thin elastic line goes, I can't imagine it would hold very well so I just went straight to the bungee shock cord. Take care brother!

    The upgrades are awesome. I’m really loving my lunar solo. I’m waiting on cord for my tie outs to be delivered so I can gain a little more room inside.

      Thank you Jason. Yeah the Lunar Solo is and absolutely awesome shelter for one. Good stuff brother!

    I did the same as you did with the tyvek ground cloth , cut it to the shape of the the floor so it is protected. I did not attach any loops or bungee cords to it but I sure like that idea. I did add a little more head room to each end of my Lunar Solo when laying down. Took two of the Treaking Pole Cups from ZPacks and attach one to each line. Then insert a 32 inch carbon fiber tent pole in each cup to hold them up and away from the tent , then anchored the line to the ground.

      Hey Chuck. Thank you for the kind words on the bungee cord. And yeah excellent product those Pole Cups from Z-packs; it certainly makes a huge difference when those side wall guy outs are pulled away. Take care!

    Great ideas!
    I've ordered by SMD LS and the Tyvek groundsheet. Just waiting for it to arrive.
    Was going to order the LE, but as I always use a groundsheet, thought I'd save a few grams and go with the UL version.
    Might try you mods.
    Thanks for sharing

    Thanks for the video. Couple questions about your awesome custom tyvek ground sheet:
    Did you order tyvek from SMD? I see on their website the large is 48" wide, but only 84" long (6" shorter than the Lunar Solo). Also, how did you attach the shock cord to the tyvek? It looks like you sewed on tyvek tabs that you looped the shock cord through.

  • @0zthehikingsailor
    @0zthehikingsailor 7 років тому +1

    Bah the tyvek they told me to purchase is smaller then the tent size. I knew it would be a rectangle but still. I might have to be doing some glueing grrrrr. Can you provide the exact sizing you used to cut your tyvek? Is the the same size as it the diagram at the 6 moons site?
    And what width size fir the bungee again?

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому

      Hello again. Yes I just used the diagram from the website. At the apex of the back where it would be the widest I went 46"/117cm and then did 30"/76cm on the ends. That will allow you to be able to cut the tyvek just a hair smaller than the actual floor shape. Hope this info helps. Take care.

    Have you tried a Polycro groundsheet before? I just received my tent and I'm debating between the two. Seems like the pros of polycro are weight, price, and that they are completely waterproof. Tyvek seems more durable but at a cost in price and weight and isn't waterproof. Have you ever had issues with water seeping through your tent floor using tyvek on a wet ground? I appreciate all your feedback in advance!

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому

      Adam Elabd Hey Adam. I have not experienced any problems with water seeping through on wet ground. I personally use the tyvek due to the durability. So Cal and our desert rocky pebbles, I think, would make short work of most polycro sheets. If you have leafy greens or kind dirt I would think polycro would be great but not necessarily the best option for So Cal area. Thank you for your question; if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to ask.

    • @adame.8676
      @adame.8676 7 років тому +1

      I'm in the Rockies. So... maybe Tyvek is the way to go especially since waterproofing doesn't seem to be an issue. Thanks!

    Thanks for the tip! I am strongly considering buying this tent. I have had some of my fears regarding condensation allayed (proper pitch and ventilation). How does this tent do for people who 6 feet and up tall? How much head and feet clearance do you get this tent, especially if we end up using 2 poles (or maybe even a 3rd)?

      Hey Charlie, I got the 2mm line from Massdrop.com when they had a sale on it. But the 3mm line I got from Lawson's website: lawsonequipment.com/Reflective-Glowire-Cord-c152/ It starts off with 2mm line but if you keep scrolling down you'll see the 3mm line. Can't wait to see it on your SMDLSLE!

    Hi can you use the same clip or do you have to buy a new one? I have tried to take it apart with no success Thanks

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому

      Hi Warren. Yes, unfortunately, you will need a new clip. Once closed those things are impossible to open. Best low cost resources for clips like the ones used on SMD products is this link: questoutfitters.com/Fasteners_%20Misc_Hooks.htm#END_HOOKS I am not affiliated with that retailer in any way rather after an insanely difficult search that is the only retailer that I know of that sells that particular clip. Best wishes.

      Tuba Solo the Hiker I had a feeling about that. I’m going to try to rig it with a small carabiner temporarily. I’m going to use the tent very shortly. Thanks. But I am going to order clips today

    How much of each cordage glow worm did you use for all the lines?

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому

      As far as the main line I just matched it to the original main line so I'm not quite sure how long that one was officially but again you can just match it to the line that comes with the tent. The lines on the side I had at 8'/244cm but I think you could do just fine with 7'/213cm or even 6'/183cm. Hope this info helps.

    • @TubaSolotheHiker

      Hello Victor. I purchased a piece of tyvek off of eBay that was 48" (4ft) wide and then cut it down to the appropriate width needed to match the floor shape.

    How did you get the clip apart to thread the glow wire through? I just received my Lunar Solo the other day and want to replace the stock cordage. I didn't want to force it!

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  8 років тому

      Hello. It is not easy to say the least but it can be done....with that said I would encourage you to give SMD a call and see if they will send you a clip that is un-clipped. When I called I told Brandon that I had a project that I wanted to do on my Lunar Solo and I wanted to buy a clip off him. He kindly offered to send me one un-clipped without charge. You may want to try that approach and see if you have any luck.

    Just received my lunar solo today with tyvek ground sheet. And I will be working on the tyvek in a couple of days to for the tent. But silly me..... where on earth do I get the bungee cord that you used? Getting stuff up here in Canada is a pain I tell you so I have to find those rare places to get them. Anyway anything you can do to help with the tyvek parts would be appreciated or anyone else as this stuff is too hard to find up here,
    Thanks all. I depart 19 March 18 on my AT Thru hike quest.

      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому +1

      Hello. My apologies for not commenting until now; I just noticed that you left other comments and I had not yet responded. As far as the bungee is concerned I would think Amazon is the best resource. a.co/aRbvtLl As far as tabs you can purchase them from eBay or make your own. Cut strips of tyvek and super glue them into tabs; just make sure you let them cure long enough before you start adding pressure to them from the shock cord. r.ebay.com/KtowV3; hope this information helps.

    • @0zthehikingsailor

      Tuba Solo the Hiker Thanks for replying my friend. The Tyvek should be pretty easy to cut as I have done that part before but folded over the edges by 1 inch but tbh I do not think this part is needed unless you say it is. For the loops, it should be pretty simple but I was thinking of just punching the holes in with the brackets. For the cords, I will find something that will work up here as like I stated, hiking is not very popular as it is in your world. For the bungee I will check at the links you provided. Last easy easy, how many feet or meters of cordage do I need to purchase to make all the lines reflective in your opinion. I do apologize for my newbie questions but I simply do not know. Thank you, have a good day and a most excellent new year eh.

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому +1

      A 50ft/15m section should be plenty; also it will leave you some left over for other projects. Punching holes in the Tyvek with brackets should be more than adequate. As far as bungee its not necessarily a necessity rather it was just something that I wanted to try. Many times I've just placed fist sized rocks on the edges of my tyvek and called it good. Hopefully my answers are helpful. Please do not hesitate to ask if you have any other questions or need any clarifications on my ramblings.

    Wouldn't it be easier to just go with the LE vesion instead of using the tyvek?

    • @TubaSolotheHiker
      @TubaSolotheHiker  7 років тому

      Nordic Gear Hello. I did originally own the LE version with the heavier floor but despite that the areas where I backpack are, in my opinion, exceptionally unforgiving. Small, grainy rocks on hard packed dirt. Ive had these little daggar rocks bust through Tyvek ground sheets before too which without, again in my opinion, would have caused damage to the floor of even the LE version. I certainly wish I backpacked in leafy greens but alas with my area ground sheets are a bit of a must. Take care my friend.

      Hello Andrew. Unfortunately you cannot open up the clip once its been closed. Good news is you can purchase more for very very cheap. The only place I've ever found them on the internet is from the following retailer (I am not affiliated with them in any way; rather they are the only ones that I found to sell these end hooks) To get a new hook/clip to swap out your cordage for the prusik knot you can purchase them from the following link: questoutfitters.com/Fasteners_%20Misc_Hooks.htm#END_HOOKS
