The biggest problem with Goodwill is that they are putting the good stuff on their online auction site. It’s going to get to a point that going to Goodwill for the sake of cheap games isn’t going to happen anymore. Even some of the Atari 2600 games I have were $1 or $2 each many years ago. Crazy!
same for my area near chicago, all the good stuff is scanned and sent to their website to sell, rarely find anything other than common junk, the only thing ive found thats any good in the last couple months, i found in a blank case i randomly decided to open.
Hey, I was going to comment respectfully when I was told to comment respectfully. Now I don't want to comment because censorship is baaaad. Anyways Goodwill's problem isnt that it's not cheap, it's problem is that it's selling at a incalculable percentage markup since all their crap they sell they don't pay for lol.
I live 45 minutes away from Pittsburgh and used to work at the exchange I wish you'd make a video about how bad they are outside of this they ruin the local gaming community. I'm trying to start my own store for game collecting but there is like barely any places to find games I'm sorry you had to experience that i have over 400 games i might have to use those at this point
We use to have a great Retro game store at the mall right across from where the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo was called Cash N Culture . They actually had 4 ( I believe ) locations in the Pittsburgh area at one point . Unfortunately they closed all of their physical locations around 2 years ago I think . I use to shop at their Monroeville and Greensburg locations every chance that I had .
Thrift stores with nothing but sports, CoD, Wii shovelware and game stores that overprice their stuff? Sounds real familiar man lol that’s what it’s turned into in my area. Sucks 😒
The exchange in Cleveland Heights is pretty solid. Yeah they have overpriced snes, n64, gamecube but they constantly sleep on NES, ps1, ps2, ps3 prices. Especially ps3 if you collect for that system. Found a lot of gems there for $10 or less.
You even said "who would pay these prices". I said something like that once and and you told me I was close minded, which you didn't need to assume that because I'm not. It's all relative to what the person thinks is a lot of money to them. I have never paid above $60 for a game. Thanks for showing them off though.
That Super Mario Bros game for famicom for $10 sounds about right... Only difference, i paid $5 more for that copy and Super Mario Bros 3 for famicom. Worth it!! Cause the American Copies are a bit steep...
I worked in a Goodwill for a few years and can verify that most of the good games get sent to their e-commerce site. At the store I worked, pretty much any game went there. Sometimes because we knew it was worth something, or because we had no clue and the e-commerce could figure it out. I don't knock them for doing it that way, but it definitely makes it rough looking to buy in the stores.
I quit going to my local Goodwill stores after they jacked the prices 400%. They are more than the local game stores like GameStop and GameXchange on some games, and at least with the legit game stores you get some kind of warranty on them actually working. I'll pay Goodwill $2-4 and chance it not working, but not $8! Stupid...
Yeah that's what I see a lot of. People follow the price. Then try to sell at a high price, but if people don't buy it, then they are stuck with it unless they go down in price. I won't overpay for a game.
FPS and sports games, are two types of games that i try to avoid - i dont know about other people, but for me these genre have become too saturated and exploited. we get a new 2k, sports game and a new COD or shooter game always every year. Its either a rehash or a new coat of paint with very few new additions on a previous release. I got nothing against people who play them, its just not for me.
While in Pittsburgh, did you end up hitting any game stores in Squirrel Hill, just down street from University of Pittsburgh? The place is a little hippie town like Berkeley or maybe Brooklyn, if you've ever been to those. It had small coffee and record shops when I was last there, so it probably has small game stores now.
Welcome to game hunting in 2022 Pittsburgh. It is cut throat. Most of the best stuff in my collection was found 2010 to 2015. Competition got nuts after that.
Dude, the exchange is the wild west! The prices between stores are crazy too. Honestly, if they have too much of any one specific thing, the price goes down. I picked up a PS3 Red Dead Redemption GOTY version for $2.50. Mostly, they're too expensive though!
That Ninja Electronics store sounds amazing. During your trip did you happen to find any PS Vita, or Atari Lynx games? Btw.. how was the convention? We were gutted when Replay FX went under, and have been looking for another great video game convention. It looked amazing in your vid. How was it? And thanks for sharing.
The Halloween stuff at Goodwill was great here in Florida. I managed to get a Black Panther light up mask for my son! He will be taking it on our Marvel Disney Cruise early next year!
Walk It Out is worth picking up for $3 tbh. Also, got a pawn near me that's my new favorite. PS2 and PS3 is $2, Xbox 360 is $1, and PS4 is $5 unless otherwise marked.
"All the Goodwills have Wii games, call of duty, and sports" Yeah man, where have you been? Just joking, but that was the trend even pre-pandemic. In all seriousness though, as a Pittsburgh local, no one does retro hunting at The Exchange. They research eBay and nothing else when pricing their stock. I have been able to find some gems here and there before they became aware (my best personal purchase was a Dreamcast Twin Stick controller and Virtual On Oratorio Tangram together for $45 pre-pandemic). The same can be said for Half-Priced Books. They have become more aware lately, but if you search outside the currently desired retro era, you can score some deals. Grabbed a $35 blue GameGear recently myself. Hope you dug PGX though! Happy hunting!
Yeah goodwill is dead, has been for months in most areas. You can catch an occasional slip on certain items but even Xbox 360 sports games are marked $10 and behind the glass. I’ve also heard of there being back door deals going on where things are set aside for people to buy before it can even hit the floor. It’s a shame how greedy the company has gotten considering they get all of their stock at no cost. I mean I get it it’s business, but like others have said it definitely takes the fun out of hunting. Yard sales and FB marketplace are also a grind but there are still deals out there if you’re always looking. Keep up the grind my man
Hi man, I've been following your videos for more than a month and let me say that is a fun experience seeing them and all those games you have been hunting are great stuff. Btw, any videogame store that can ship from Mexico that you could recommend me? Greetings from Tamaulipas, Mexico bro, keep it like that 😉😉
Half Price Crooks might be pricey but I see a few titles that I have been looking all over for like Alien Hominid. It is so hard to find in my area that I may just end up buying it off of Ebay.
Haha that store. Almost as bad as Craigslist. Super Mario Bros "5 screw" variant, cart only. $1000 FIRM. No low ballers! I know what I have! :D Yep, this is why I don't collect retro stuff anymore. People broke this hobby long ago.
I have shopped at the exchange, still do sometimes. But I agree the prices can get ridiculous! I occasionally find good deals but not like it used to be. Normally I only buy new games and movies from them as movies for the most part are cheap(although that can get insane too), at least at my location
So sad I missed you I my hometown!! Yes the exchange is wayyyy overpriced. All of them in the area are like that. Goodwill’s are rough too. Games are always in the glass case and overpriced. Rough hunting here in Pittsburgh
Of course Pittsburgh would be crappy for hunting (Go Browns!) But definitely a good find getting NBA Showdown for SNES. One of the best basketball games for that system/all time (I said it).
Yay bro hope you enjoyed the good side of Pittsburgh! But looks like you saw the hard grind lol And dude I swear the goodwill ppl around here sometimes pick through the stuff. They know to much! It's tough here definitely a grind. And yes the record exchange is always over priced!! Thank you lol I just go in to look. I did find a disc only fire emblem path of radiance for 100$ like 2 months back And thanks I never knew of ninja electronics! I live more north of Pittsburgh!

They have alot of shops like that in malls were there so overpriced

We have The Exchange here near Cleveland, OH... and yes!!! Their prices are outrageous!
I have 2 Exchange stores in Chicago - some good prices but the high end stuff is OutRageously HIGH Priced!! I
That's how ridiculous the prices have gotten in my area. It's hardly fun anymore
Sad
The sad thing is that The Exchange didn't always have outrageous prices 😕 I don't know what happened to them.
We use to have a great Retro game store at the mall right across from where the Pittsburgh Gaming Expo was called Cash N Culture . I’m on the opposite coast and it’s the exact same the only way to find games is garage sales if you want deals
Thrifting in Pittsburg sounds like thrifts in Moncton lol
Beer in a church? I might go to church more….or ever!
So that Game Exchange did NOT remember to do it the Wright Way 🤣
Lol
This is the same experience in NE Ohio. Goodwill is a waste 99.9% of the time. Its hard to find a good deal on a video game around here.
The exchange in Cleveland Heights is pretty solid. Yeah they have overpriced snes, n64, gamecube but they constantly sleep on NES, ps1, ps2, ps3 prices. Especially ps3 if you collect for that system. Found a lot of gems there for $10 or less.

That’s totally two different situations .
Me and a friend go to different Exchanges in Ohio and the prices are outrageous, but some stores will haggle the price down surprisingly.
That Super Mario Bros game for famicom for $10 sounds about right... Only difference, i paid $5 more for that copy and Super Mario Bros 3 for famicom. Worth it!! Cause the American Copies are a bit steep...
Sadly I believe a lot of those prices from those stores, are online market place prices.
I worked in a Goodwill for a few years and can verify that most of the good games get sent to their e-commerce site. At the store I worked, pretty much any game went there. Wow, $1 games!? I really need to visit Pittsburgh again one day. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been there.
I remember once finding a Mega Man 2 and SMB 3 for the NES at a Salvo, and that totally made my weekend!
Salvation Army?
I gotta drive an hour to get to them, but I love salvation army more.
They give out free Bibles too.
I quit going to my local Goodwill stores after they jacked the prices 400%. 5:26 The prices hit a high 2022 Summer. I was selling boxes and manuals then for half that price 5:17. People were just irresponsible with cvid money.
Welcome to the age of now everyone follows the price. When people bragged, more wanted in and thus now results in nearly every store wanting top dollar

$500 for Arcade 1Up? Lol. They think they have a full size machine. I remember when I had a full sized Mortal Kombat I paid $700
they are crazy
The only saving grace with the exchange is that they do ok with trade in.
The exchange is the only store i have near me to hunt and its an hour away. No local pawn shops, threft stores, garage sales... nothing! Amish County
Yeah our goodwills in SW PA pull ALMOST all the games for online. I'm surprised you found any 😂😂😂 nice lil haul tho!

It's worth $34 AUD, and this place had it for the equivalent of $62!
All of PA is like this, only sports games and call of duty envious watching UA-cam Midwestern peeps got it good
Most of the time my goodwills are exactly like this. Last time I found anything at all that was decent was probably 6 months ago.
