- This is a short version on my Renault 5 GT turbo engine build.
Many details are left out, but it gives a small overview of the project.
I really enjoyed this engine rebuild, and because im not trained or educated in doing this kind of work it was a huge challenge and a great achievement.
Hope that its fun to watch!

Same engine in my Volvo 340 but without the turbo. I love this engine.
Its pretty damn good this engine!
@@SeasideGarage Hello, this motor have aluminium block ? Thank you))
@@cicikore13 No its iron :)
@@SeasideGarage Thanks
@@SeasideGarage How much for you to rebuild my c1j ? :)
good evening, very nice video, can you tell me the tightening torques of this engine?
This video made my day. Excellent engine, excellent car. The engine should be a 1.4 liter engine ? and is it simullar to the C1E found in Campus?
great to hear!
Yes its the same engine pretty much. 1.4 :)
great video i have a renault 5 gt turbo phase 2 to be rebuilt
where did you get the torque specs to rebuild the engine
I got a Haynes manual for it :)
Thanks!
I think this is very similar if not the same as the "CHT" engine we have in Brazil.
Very cool video!
That could be! Its a very popular engine it seems... :)
Brazilian here
There's actually some big differences between the CHT and the "Cleon Fonte", the main one being that the CHT has a built from scratch cylinder head to optimize air flow, and create turbulence, to improve fuel efficiency
We also managed to considerably increase it's litrage, up to 1555 ccs
CHT é brabo, to fazendo 10km/L no etanol
@@SeasideGarage It is. Over 27 million units were produced from 1962 up until its end in 2004 and the 1397cc variant being widely used . The Cleon-fonte was a development of the Ventoux engine and was notable for having a 5 main being crankshft because many manufactures at the time were still making engines with 3 main bearings. The only engine that out numbered it was the Chevvy V8.
What torque specs for crankshaft bearing and rod bearing bolts?
Are the engines from the standard R5 1.4 and the GT Turbo same?
I think so... :)
@@SeasideGarage Thank you :)
What's the name of the tool you use to check the valve hermiticity? Thanks!
Its just a vacuum pump :)
Thanks@@SeasideGarage, I realized that, but thought it would be a specific one for the job.
@@TheJcman72 I just used one that normally are just to bleed brakes... it worked very good.. :)
CHT
Thx mate for all information about engine. Take care!
Thank you! :)
Don’t forget the liner seals ☺️
Good spot.. They are installed but i did not show it in the small edit.. the longer videos are showing in.
But when measuring the protrusion its done without the seal.. :) (on the turbo/1,4 engine)
very nice to watch..
thank you :)
Great video, really concise edit :)
Thanks! :D
super nice video. currently rebuilding a Renault D-Type, my first ever mechanic gig
Good luck! :D
@@SeasideGarage thank you! Do you have any advice on how to install the pistons in the block? The rings are "bloated" and I can't find a piece of anything with the same bore as the block
@@JoseSantos-ys3rj a pistonring compresser tool is cheap and pretty good to have :)
Hi, i must do the same job. Ive noticed that you put the shape of the big end bearing towards the back of the car ... Is it important ? Same for the 4 connecting rod or random for your case ??
Hmm cant remember of the top of my head, but its important to install them the same way that they came out... :)
Sure but i disassembled 12yr ago. Impossible to remember or find information. Next step put piston and rods together so i need to choose quickly...
@@bully6467 ah... Well the connecting rod is a mirrored part it seems so i dont think the direction matter that much... I would do put then in the same way as I did then... But I am not sure! :)
@@SeasideGarage exact mirrored part. Then I think the same but not sure if no more clue i will make same as you. Thank you
Another good video seppo.
Thanks Dan!
