The game literally needs you to commit lesser crimes to solve murders but the deeper lore actually feels more like you're actually just using crime as an excuse to build detailed profiles on people since you inadvertently collect detailed info on a person during your investigations.
I hope they release mod tools for this game; the mechanics seem really robust and there's probably a bunch of different ways to use them. The fact that you leave finger prints could probably be used to make a "try to get away with murder" simulator for example, or make evidence you leave at fresh crime scenes implicate you, maybe have crimes you commit be reported and investigated, ect.
He went through the city phone book looking for names that matched the letters used in the crumpled note containing the killer's anagram. The only name that fit the anagram was H. Janssens'. The phone book listed their address as 1401 Mitchell. He starts doing this at about 02:50:00.
