Not much of a difference to me, I've tried all sorts of capture devices, as well as Firewire, all looks the same. Only thing different was my composite to HDMI converter, into USB HDMI capture device. I noticed my hi8 vids were up scaled a bit. I don't mind the analog look from old videos, it's nostalgic to me. lol

Anyone that says there's not much of a difference doesn't know what they are talking about, has poor eyesight or are being dishonest.
As I show in these videos there's a clear difference.

Whenever possible I choose USB simply for the fact I can capture lossless and have the freedom to make adjustments without massive generational loss. This, I think, USB is more betterer for NTSC because DV is more forgiving in PAL land.

DV is lossless. Down converting to analog creates two unnecessary conversions digital to analog and then analog to digital leading to loss. Just because you can capture in a lossless format doesn't mean it's lossless.

DV is fine if doing nothing to it.
If you want to restore and deinterlace I think a lossless codec such as HuffYuv would reduce artifacts and loss of quality until final delivery format.

@@barrygill6975 No because DV is sharper and has more information. You're adding unnecessary conversions also you don't have to capture .dv files depending on program.
