My mum’s grandmother was forced to flee Shikarpur, Pakistan, after unimaginable violence. Her father was shot dead in his utensils shop, leaving her and her elder sister with no choice but to escape. They boarded a ship from Karachi to Bombay, leaving behind their mother and everything they had ever known. Eventually, they found refuge in Udaipur, Rajasthan, where they started their lives from scratch. She later married my mum’s grandfather, who himself had fled from Quetta. Together, they endured every hardship, working tirelessly to ensure their children had stability, education, and a future they never had. Even decades later, my mum’s grandmother would have tears in her eyes whenever she spoke of her homeland. The first-generation Indian Sindhis carried their pain with quiet strength, building everything from nothing-so their future generations wouldn’t have to.
This video means a lot to me. My mom’s Sindhi-her family carried stories of Jhulelal and Partition across continents-and my dad’s from the Bhil tribe in MP, where his ancestors’ bond with the land runs deep. Growing up, our home was this quiet blend of Dal Pakwan and Bhil folk tales at bedtime. It’s funny how both sides of my family share this unspoken rule: *adapt, but never forget*. Sindhis rebuilding lives in Bombay slums or Ghana, Bhils preserving ancient art and rituals-it’s all about holding onto who you are, even when the world tries to erase it.
Thank you Mohak! For breaking the stereotypes what people have about us and educating and reflecting our rich history. Our ancestors faced so many challenges during partition, be it leaving their homeland, getting acceptance among new communities, etc. but today I am proud to say our ancestors and parents have really worked hard and built wealth from scratch. I am 20 years old and have proficiency in Sindhi and would really work hard to preserve it and teach it to my future generations. We need to preserve our culture. Thanks a lot for this video..❤
My great grandfather left Sindh at the time they were forced to convert. He would die than do such a thing, he came here with no money no land, started labour and from there to build their own business. And no we never eat any meat we are pure Hindus, we had our Sindh doing well from indus valley civilization. Thanks for making this video Mohak, maybe we'll have less stereotypes now :)

I am a sindhi and i would love to say that we still use sindhi in our daily conversations within the family and follow the nuances which comes with it, we have to embrace the culture and pass it on the newer generations
As a sindhi, who eventually gave up on learning about my own culture because of lack of proper articles, i want to thank you for making this video. Ive grown up with sort of an alien syndrome because of how different and ignored our culture really is. This video answered so many questions for me. The why did our ancestors leave pakistan, why is sindhi written in a persian script to why does the lullaby have the word waheguru. This video hit home. This video gave me a sense of belonging. Thankyou so much for making this video. 💗
Thank you for creating a video about our culture. With modernization, many of us are forgetting our roots. Most of the topics discussed in the video were new to me. As Sindhis, we always prioritize business and truly respect and follow various religions with pure hearts, without any differences.
Undoubtedly, you're one of the best creator!!! Been following u since 2019 and seeing your channel grow to finally seeing Shaneez bhabi's interview, it feels good. Kudos 🎉
I have a friend whose mother migrated from Karachi with her family to Indore in the 80s to avoid persecution. I always wanted to interview her and know her thoughts about her lost home but couldn’t. I’m a Jain and I’ve heard there was a good community of Jains at-least in Karachi but last I checked there isn’t a single Jain left in whole of Pakistan. Thank you so much for making this video Mohak!

In Pune, we have Sadhu Vaswani Chowk, that was named after a revolutionary educationist. Very cool and informative video. Thanking you for making such valuable content.
I’m from Larkana (Near mohen-jo-daro), Sindh, and currently living in Karachi. In Sindh, Sindhi is spoken in almost every city except Karachi and Hyderabad, where Urdu is more commonly preferred. However, we still speak Sindhi at home and have preserved our traditional Sindhi cuisine.
My grandmother lived to be 90, she passed away in 2021, she left her home in Pakistan when she was may be 15-16, whenever this partition conversation comes, you could see horror in her eyes, she would go silent and cold, that fear never left her till her last days… thank you Mohak for giving a deep dive into our culture.
Being a Sindhi and living in Ahmedabad, I feel incredibly proud to learn so much about our rich culture from this video. This is hands down one of the most well researched pieces of content I’ve come across on Sindhi heritage. I’ve heard these stories from my grandparents..how they had to leave everything behind in Pakistan just to survive and the immense struggles they faced after coming to India. It’s heartbreaking to hear about their hardships but at the same time it fills me with pride to see how our community has always risen stronger after every setback. Thanks Mohak for covering this beautiful history of our Sindhi culture. Hope you’re also enjoying being part of this amazing community! :)
Religion has done enough harm to this subcontinent. As a humanist I feel so bad to see people (who are same ) fighting each other just because they happen to born in some other religion. It is so funny that they would be of same religion if their grand parents or grand grand parents would have chosen no/not to convert.
being sindhi , did not know much about the history because my dadi was quiet young may be of 5.but we spoke with each other in sindhi ,eat delicious sindhi food and preserving our roots but at the same time feel about the community being lost in india and rest of the world too. and the last question from where we belong is asked alot from us .but proud to be sindhi and born and brought up in india

Hey mohak this made me emotional because finally someone is addressing this issue that Sindhi culture is dying at an unprecedented rate. People I talk to don’t want to speak Sindhi and my heart shrinks hearing that. I hear the stories of my grandfather and father of How the daily needs were met of the family those were just heart breaking as they had to sell “pav”. My mom used to work in a candle factory in which they used to pack the packets of candle on which they got the salary. Keeping the culture alive ahead would be a mammoth task for all of us.

this is a sweeping revision of history, mostly based on just one perspective. But there were many perspectives throughout the history of Muslim-Hindu Sindh.
Hey Mohak, Heartiest thanks for covering this topic. I've grown up hearing stories of my great grandmothers jewels being snatched by mobs in Karachis and our factories in Hyderabad, Sukur and Shikarpur being burnt. My grandparents left by steamers from Karachi and we've been in Mumbai for 2 generations. I'd highly recommend the book by Mark Anthony Falzon and The Amil Lohana's by Sazz Agarwal to learn Sindhi History. Loved the video!

@PrashantUpadhyay-v5e Thats true bro but what are we missing is a sense of belongingness. Our community cant practice our own language we always are left behind as compared to other communities in any state. Our voices are not heard resources are not properly allocated, for eg our new year CHETI CHAND has NOT been recognized as a holiday so just imagine not able to practice Pongal, Gudi Padwa or such other festivals, does that make sense but yes we sindhis go through this every year.
@PrashantUpadhyay-v5e also to add our appeal for a DD sindhi channel is in the court since decades. Can you imagine , we have to fight for just a DD Sindhi through court no government is considering such issues. We would provide crores of funds to Maldives, Sri Lanka, Turkey but our own community is left to suffer for such small amounts.

It’s funny how both sides of my family share this unspoken rule: *adapt, but never forget*. Sindhis rebuilding lives in Bombay slums or Ghana, Bhils preserving ancient art and rituals-it’s all about holding onto who you are, even when the world tries to erase it.
What a pleasant surprise! Awesome work! Extremely grateful for acknowledging our culture❤️
Also we proud Sindhis..
❤
same bro I am a sindhi and never eat any thing non veg nor my family eated such thing
@xyz79095 thats what im thinking lol my boss is sindhi and he is hardcore vegeterian im being a maharastrian marathi hindu here we have both balance diet of meat fish and veggies we blessed with sea and fertile land near mumbai ehehe
@xyz79095 there is nothing bad eating but due to factory and mass production and it affects natural food cycle
Why don't sindhi Hindu's liberate sindh and make is like Israel
I am a sindhi and i would love to say that we still use sindhi in our daily conversations within the family and follow the nuances which comes with it, we have to embrace the culture and pass it on the newer generations
Actually - in last 20 odd years we have started rejuvenating our culture
The phase between 1950-2000 was actually tough

Such a lovely video! I have been following this channel for 5 years now and honestly it is one of the best...best of luck to both of you!

Religion has done enough harm to this subcontinent. As a humanist I feel so bad to see people (who are same ) fighting each other just because they happen to born in some other religion. It is so funny that they would be of same religion if their grand parents or grand grand parents would have chosen no/not to convert.
I was feeling goosebumps throughout the video . I would say this video is sensational.
Ram ram bhabijee. Saw some of your podcasts on your startup channel. Now you're here. God bless you both. ❤

Sindhi from Jakarta that's very interesting.
Mohak you are just so impeccable in selecting topics
Mohak bhai...lovely video..mujhe bhi nahi pata tha itna sidhi community ke baare mein. But it's lovely to know about them and their beauty.. may the community grow more stronger and healthier. It feels very nice to see people together, helping each other and preserving the culture❤
Good to see Shaneez doing the intro of the video!😂😅🙌🏻
this is a sweeping revision of history, mostly based on just one perspective.

Whole india is yours, no need of just a part.

It’s always good see when people talk about our culture and history, although people are not teaching their children’s to talk in Sindhi that’s what hurt me the most may be this thing change in our community.(loved this video ❤)
As a Sindhi, it feels great that you covered the brief history and current plight in such an accurate manner. As a followup, if you research about sonara community within Sindhis, you would be amazed at their paradoxical nature and how they are still following some of ancient traditions and are quite successful in preserving their culture.
Bro I am sindhi from Bairagarh, bhopal. I am just 21 but I can speak sindhi properly thanks to my parents for talking to me in Sindhi.
