- Hi All,
This is a video showing you how i balanced the throttle bodies on my Sprint ST 1050.
My Sprint is 2005, 1050, with TOR Exhaust, Map and Pipercross Airfilter
Hopefully it is helpful to some of you out there. Any Questions please ask !
You will need TuneECU, you cannot do this with dials or a Carbtune, it has to be via the ECU.

Really good of you to make this video - thanks a lot! I'm picking up my ST on Saturday so passing the time learning how to take it apart :) Noticed in another comment you've got a zx6r g2 - I have a g1 and have been bringing that back to life too. It's just in the garage getting a new front tyre and then finally fully ready for summer :)
Hi Bob Farrell,
Hopefully you'll find it helpful in future, I think I did it just because I could really !
Yes I had the Zx6 G2, I've done a lot on it but haven't put any videos up oddly, I did the valve Shims and a carb rebuild & balance. After that I have no wish to do another any time soon !
Did you consider doing one more step after you have them balanced. Try turning each of 3 screws of the throttle body throats in a little at a time moving in succession between the 3 of them until one of them hits the end stop. Now you will not only have them balanced, but the air bleed will also be set to a minimim. Thus the transition from idle bleed air to just throttle body air is smoother on take off from an idle. The more idle air bleed is allowed, the worse this transition when you lift the throttle off idle will be.
I'm going to do it tomorrow on my ST. Thank's for the lesson.
Your very welcome, I hope it goes well tomorrow. Any problems give me a shout and I'll try to help :)
I've checked with tuneecu and just decided to leave as it was because it was only ten above in the cylinder.
I want to replace the break fluid on my bike but i'm not sure about the procedure with the ABS. In the service manual they describes something to be done with the Triumph tool, do you know if TuneEcu do this bleeding process? Thanks again for your help.

If its only 10 out, you may not notice a difference, i wanted to do it, which is why i adjusted it.
Looking at this thread on the owners club, it looks like TuneECU DOES NOT activate the ABS pump, but you'd have to check the TuneECU manual to be 100% sure

Thanks magicmat i'll probably take my bike to the dealer to change the fluid
Thanks a million magic mat
Glad it's helped !
Thanks for the video what why are the cylinder numbered is number 1 clutch side or brake side
Rodney, would the intention be to reduce the gap at the butterfly valve?
Hey....thanks for this video. I've just used it to adjust the throttle bodies on my 2009 speed triple but where I got an error code for disconnecting the temperature sensors the fault is still showing after it's all put back together. Any ideas why this is the case? Do I need to reset error codes? Thanks.
How are you getting on with the Pipercross Air Filter? 😊 I’ve recently bought a Sprint 1050 with a very dirty & clogged OEM paper air filter & I refuse to use the cotton gauze style such as K&N or BMC etc as they’re awful. 👎🏻 Therefore I have just purchased the Pipercross on a bargain deal as it comes with the full cleaning kit for only £25! 😉
Insightful video. Unrelated question…..what windscreen is that??
Hey thanks for the post, it was a double bubble screen but can’t remember the brand as the bike went a long time ago
This was great, but how did it run?
Great video. Could you explain please how you get TuneECU to run on a Mac? Ive got a MacBook pro and thought I'd have to mess about buying 'Parallels' or some thing similar. Thanks
Hi, I used a free version of parallels called virtual box. Tune Ecu has to run in windows. Or it did when I did this video. Sorry !
MagicMat thank you
MagicMat where can I buy that service manual ?, thanks !!!
Hi,
Do you mean the one to the right of my laptop?
It's a Haynes manual, available from Amazon at a guess
Mine are quite far out and when I alter the throttle body pin for cylinder one a hissing noise get louder. If I put my finger over the little hole on the inner face of the main inlet this noise goes away but the engine revs drop off. Mine are reading above the 700 mark, is this too high? Should I tighten all the screws back up and slows loosen them again? Great video though, I bought the same cable because of you and got it all set up and working in no time!
If it starts to hiss more but the balancing comes within specification, maybe it's supposed to be like that?
Also do remember your valve shims need to correct before you do this. If they are over due you should do the shims first
MagicMat Thanks for the reply. Don't suppose you know the different effects higher or lower vacuum pressures would have. I've tried searching for a tolerance that may be it should be within but found nothing. The Haynes manual doesn't cover it in that much detail.
I've done the shims, that's where this little adventure all started
Have you read the articles that I've linked up in the description?
I'm going to be honest and say that I don't know the different effects of the vacuum pressure. There is a bloke whose commented on this video
Saying a lower pressure gives a better response.
If I remember right, (and you may have to find the comment)
But his advise was to balance them all
Then screw one in a little, and then balance again,
And keep going until one bolt hits the bottom.
Whether that is good Advise or not I'm not 100%, but I can see the logic
MagicMat Yea I had a look though them, thanks for putting them up there
Screwing them in gives me a higher pressure though? I think I'm just going to aim for around the 710 hpa, a half turn out from fully closed on one adjuster. That's about what it was at when I started (give or take 20 hpa), and there wasn't the hissing vacuum noise coming from the throttle bodies. And if the comment about less vacuum bleed is a good thing then this seems like a good set up to run if they are all synced.
Thanks for your input on this, its much appreciated!

Sounds like you have a good plan. I seem to remember there was some hissing when i adjusted, but the bike rode beautifully regardless. As long as they are balanced im sure it will run fine.
Happy Riding
Great video but do you think it's worth balancing if one of your bodies is out by only 10MPu???
To be honest no.
My bike had done 17500 miles, and valve clearances are due about 23k, the bike ran fine so I could have just left it until that big service, and then checked them after the valves had bee done, but i like to tinker. And i wanted to have a go, so i did ! :)
Can you not balance them with carb balancers?
It’s a long time ago since I owned the bike, so I’m not sure. I used the software because I also changed the map, so was easy enough
Great vid. Doess this apply to the Tiger 1050 as well? presume so..
