as much as it hurts to admit it, the true winner of the grand prix series was eteri tutberidze. a stranglehold of the ladies discipline even with two injured athletes, strong pairs contenders, an unlikely male winner and Diana Davis, future OGM of the teams event, getting scored way higher than she should on ice dance. Even though her domain of the womens category was predictable, this overall sucess across all disciplines is unheard of for her, and will only solidify her career as a coach
I just wish they were scored fairly😭 If they won with fair marks, it would be an easier pill to swallow for me that Eteri is doing well in all the fields.
i’m with you on kamila. there’s no denying that she’s miles ahead of everyone technically (well, discounting 5 quad-jumping sasha) but not only is everyone bored by this narrative, it’s also that she’s being so incredibly overscored. yes, she’s miles ahead of everyone and does deserve to win, but she’s still not the skater her scores say she is. her air position in jumps for example, is much worse than most other skaters’, so off-axis it’s a wonder she’s landing them like she is. even more outrageous are her performance scores. she’s outscoring everyone and she’s artistically not there yet. which is okay. she is only 15 and very few people (aliona, for example) have that level of artistry at that age. but she’s getting scored as though she’s even more artistic than, say, the 17 year old anna. which is unhinged. yes, she might become the best thing we’ve ever seen in a couple years as she matures, but scoring her as though she already *is* does a lot more harm than good. none of these are kamila’s fault and nobody has anything against her personally, but all this makes it very hard to root for her.
The thing is she’s not as ahead as perceived. Other than her axels her jumps are extremely perorated and she uses her full blade on toe jumps. Her artistry is great but no match to the Japanese or Korean ladies. Though I mostly blame that on her bad choreography than Kamilla herself.
@@beckyy584 Sadly almost all Eteri girls (i.e. her biggest competition) prerotate and also use full blade assists. So she's still ahead. As for artistry, I'm going to have to disagree hard. While she's more artistic than Sasha or Anna were at 15, I don't see the emotion or interpretation in her skating. Yes she's smooth and flexible, but makes me feel nothing. To compare her artistry with Aliona, or Anna from last season onwards, or even Liza is inconceivable imo. Kamila is not at the same level, and as I said that's okay because she is 15 and 15 year olds just don't have the same emotional maturity.
@@awildjoeappears2182 I agree with what you’re saying in terms of artistry. I just mentioned the Japanese and Korean skaters because they have the best artistry of the veteran seniors (more than 2 years competing) and Kamilla shouldn’t score higher components than them. Let alone Anna and Alena. :)
@@awildjoeappears2182 I agree, it’s just that she has beautiful leg extensions that it appears her artistry is amazing beyond all Russian girls but it really isn’t. I think aliona as a junior had better artistry. Her adios nonino program and departure are some of the best among any Russian lady ever.
Just a friendly tip for most Japanese names they emphasis the 3rd to last syllable in 3 syllable words/names. So Kazuki Tomono would be KAzuki TOmono instead of KaZUki ToMOno :)
I actually love mariah bells sp dress, it's so simple and elegant, a breath of fresh air between all those Olga dresses that are trying to do way too much at once to the point where they're not flattering anymore
Kinda bummed out about the Grand Prix final being canceled, but I feel it’s better for the skaters (also for the pandemic) to prepare for Russian nationals. Kaori was the only non Russian qualifier and she wouldn’t have placed high or would’ve been underscored anyways. This gives the skaters rest and more preparation for more upcoming competition! Like Russian nationals!
I was just thinking although this probably won’t happen imagine if the Olympics had to be postponed like Tokyo was and it took place next year. Value a would not make it and by then there would be new juniors. It’s sad and shocking that for her it’s literally now or never.
@@toxic-low-key-ghost7934 Yes I totally agree. I remember in last Olympics, Zagitova started to have growth spurts right after her Olympic win and lost the world championship that season. For how the ladies field has been recently, their best chance really depends on this 15 -16 prepuberty one year window if they want to win Grand Glam with an Olympic gold medal. Female skaters in addition to their hard work and talent, have to be luck enough to be born in the right year (even right month) to turn 15 right on the Olympic season. Fingers crossed for them to have longevity in their careers..
This comments full of hate about Kamila are ridiculous!!! People are mad with her because she is great?? WTF???? Because she is skating perfectly all the time??? That’s so mean!!! She is 15!!! She is being consistent and beautiful!! Stop all this hate!!! Fuck the history, the history is making in the ICE!!! She is making history in the ice!! Fuck what happened outside the ice!!! Kamilla is gonna be Olympic champion and I’m so not caring for all this hate and talk!! Go all cry me a river while I play the smallest violin!!! Go Kamilla!!! She only deserves praise and love for taking this sport to new levels!!!
also, i dont think maiia has a chance at that third spot for the olympics. at this point its either tuktamysheva/trusova, but only time(and rusnats) will tell. valieva is a lock in and i feel like scherbakova earned that second spot at the gp.
So much stress. Kamilia is defo going to be there unless hell happens. I don't see the powers that be keeping Anna from the team she is World Champion, and again disaster would be the only thing keeping her from the OlyTeam. So it down to Liza and Sasha. Who will they cut off?? Draaaaamaaaaaa
@Alejandra Vasquez agree and her two gp wins after an injury only solidified her world champion status. i worry for sasha, hope she gets her quads back bc liza is a tough contender rn
she was close, but this outing did not help...but russia having another competion soon so maybe she'll get another chance! She looked so stressed here, I hope she isn't injured and trying to hide it
@@avg18 It seems that it has already been decided in Putin's offices that Valieva, Shcherbakova and Tuktamysheva will go. To be honest, I think it's fair. Tuktamysheva performs consistently and we must pay tribute to her age. Although Sasha also deserved it, but perhaps a little less.
Valieva is a beautiful skater, but god Bolero and the choreography is so underwhelming especially compared to Scherb’s FS mix and how fun Trusova’s Cruella is. However let’s remember she is a CHILD and I hope people remember this when talking about her. All I want for the Eteri girls is health and longevity tbh
We all want that for them but they signed their death warrants when they chose her as a coach. Barely anyone past 18 lasts under her competitively. At least Aliona is rebelling against it, good for her. I love me a trouble maker.
@@YannisGoedermans you have to remember a lot of these girls joined her when they were very young - it’s on their parents as well as a national team culture. But yes I also hope Kostornaia is able to continue; her jumps are still so high and powerful, she just needs to get her confidence back.
@@phyllischan5380 Even if we dislike the Bolero program, it's a good thing if Kamila herself loves it. If she hated it she wouldn't do so well. Plus, the Bolero program is much improved from last year. Daniil has been tweaking it.
here's an iconic zhenya quote to lift everyone's spirits: "Strong disappointment. I don’t care. It was very cool for me, I skated a free program - I had never felt such freedom" 😫💗 (regarding the olympics) - evgenia medvedeva, aka the love of paola's life
@@mooon.mp3 Same. I honestly hope this is the only case of back issues this severe with the Eteri girls. If everyone ends up like this then that’s really bad
@@Griffw06 sadly I think it’s far from an isolated case. Daria, who’s only 15, has a pretty serious hip fracture right now, and Elizabet Tursynbaeva (2019 worlds silver) had to retire because of back problems :(
with the scores, the world records, the media coverage, etc... its starting to feel like theyre setting Kamila up for inevitable failure because while shes an incredible skater at some point she will fail, just like any other russian lady that was hyped up to high heavens and i dont want to see that. I feel like all this "positive" press is coming off wrong Like you said, I'm also very bored because like... we know who will end up on the podium. We Know. At this point the olympics can be a zoom meeting. And I dont want to be bored, i love watching this but honestly this competition hearing the scores i just felt very... depressed? Like I honestly didnt feel anything. And this is really not a dig at the skaters, i love these girls but... yeah Someone pointed dout that Kamilas jump look a little "wonky" in air, like the axis isnt the way it should, and im terrified shes going to land badly one day. I know i complain a lot in the comments but i honestly never want to see any of these skaters get hurt.
I agree you can’t put so much pressure on such a young girl. Even from the end of last year they have been saying she is the olympic favourite and hot sad for her it will be if she doesn’t succeed after the media has painter her as the gold medallist already. I never wish failure on anyone but not even many adults can handle such pressure let alone a 15 year old.
@@toxic-low-key-ghost7934 Evgenia said something similar in an interview. Basically that she’s amazing and has all the talent, but she’s a child, and people need to stop putting so many expectations and pressure on her. I worry that she’ll be like Alina-retiring shortly after the Olympics before she can really disappoint everyone.
I agree with all these comments! I just wanted to add that I’ve come across comments arguing that the only reason ‘some’ skaters have retired at a young age is because ‘they’ve already won everything there is to win’. I don’t buy this argument. What athlete would not want to ideally win the Olympics and World titles more than once, reach new heights, become the GOAT? Yuzuru is a good example of this - two-time Olympic and world champion and still active and wanting to achieve new goals.
@@francirose89 I think it mainly comes to motivation. Of course every athlete wants to win worlds and olympics 162738 times, but *wanting* is a different thing from having the drive to actually do it. Cuz even the top level skaters that have the better chances and are top contenders to achieve somethimg have to go through a lot to achieve it, day after day of pratices, falling over and over again, so much pain and hardships. You need to have such determination to do it, and it's even harder when that thing you want to achieve is something you already have. Like everything you had fight for all your life, for that thing you've been sacrificing all this years, suddelny comes true, You win and you feel an inmense amount of euphoria and happiness but once that moment ends, you don't know what to do. You don't have a clear goal anymore or something to put your will on, the heaven is the limit and of course you can always have bigger goals and things to improve on, but it's not as easy as it seems. This is kinda what happened with yuzuru around 2018-2019, he mentioned feeling lost, he lost a big part of his motivation and was on a really bad mental state on late 2019. Fortunately, he found a new goal to focus and got back his motivation but not all athletes can find motivation again, especially with russian ladies, when you know new younger and better girls are coming to win over you anyways. For some other athletes their personal experiences make them fall out love with the sport and just don't want to have anything to do with it. It's different for everyone.
At this point I don’t want kamilla to go to the olympics because of how boring everything is gonna be. Imagine sasha, anna and liza going, there’s no telling who’s gonna win. If sasha delivers crazy jumps she’s winning, if anna flops and liza performs the performance of her life with 2 trixels she will beat anna.. etc the excitement and possibilities are endless. It’s not kami’s fault but those stupid judges killing the competition and the suspension/enjoyment Edit: she’s great I believe she is the best, however she shouldn’t be scored so high that she’s literally unbeatable! Even If sasha jumps 10 quads+anna gets covid but performs flawlessly and is literally dying on the k&c you know kamilla is still winning. That’s ridiculous
100% she’s getting skating skills in the 9s and 10s for interpretation when really in bolero there are just a bunch of leg kicks. She has beautiful extensions and could be so much better if she was given better material but what she’s doing isn’t deserving of these sky rocketing scores. She’s actually almost getting the same scores that yuzuru gets. ABSURD. You can’t tell me that her and yuzuru have the same interpretation, the same ss, the same jump quality or anything. And maybe she could become that good if she was actually given time to mature and develop as a skater and find herself but no just like we’ve seen time and time again after these Olympics she will be taken over by up coming juniors.
@@Plaspos there’s still more anticipation by A LOT. We all know russian ladies will place top 3 and those are the three that will give you the most interchangeable podium. Especially with sasha in the mix. With kami you know who’s winning before the competition starts.
@@fringe9068 Kamila could get 65 PCS and still win easily. I am the first one to complain about systematic over scoring of the “new girl from Russia” each year but of all the ones that came before (Sotnikova, Lipnitskaya, Medvedeva, Zagitova, Trusova, Kostornaia, Shcherbakova) Valieva is the most deserving of her scores. Medvedeva and Sotnikova were overscored the most obviously but the other ones have all received MANY judging gifts themselves for example Trusova’s bronze medal at worlds which was a total robbery of sakamoto
as much as I love kami and recognize that she is a breathing athlete, I hope she is not going to be one of the tutberize girl that is going to only have a good season, maybe two, and be forgotten after winning the ogm. like julia and alina :/
I think you're right. If we know a little more about Kamila's personal life, maybe we could bond more with her. But now... It's really just meh.... I also hate the bolero song
It’s so strange to me how secretive they (the coaches, the media) are towards Kamila, it’s as if they don’t want to let her tell anything about her for people to perceive her as a doll and not a living person. I know a lot of people who didn’t like Medvedeva when she was with Eteri, but who grew to love her because of her character, her sassyness and fearlessness, and same with Aliona, for example, who showed her character. But Valieva doesn’t even tell about something as innocent as her plans for future in figure skating, nothing at all… it’s just strange to me. It’s like they’re trying to make her be perceived as a different person and she can’t tell anything about what SHE thinks 🤔
You forgot to talk about the controversy around men's results, the Eteri male student's quad toe technique. Cuz he knows how to do a proper triple toe but is getting away with the horrific-quad "toe" technique.
@@matthildamilito5962 actually 4S is worth more than 4T. The problem was more that he'd already done a 4S in combo in the SP so his 4T would've been invalidated if it was called as a 4S.

What a very bumpy and unpredictable season it has been. And now the Grand Prix finals are cancelled in Japan. Due to another covid scare, What's next? quite possibly the cancellation of the 2022 Olympics? Maybe this is a blessing in the disguise. As a number of top tier skaters had to withdraw from competition. As a result of physical injuries. Including Yuzuru, Bradie, Sasha and Rika. Would rather see all of them competing among the impressive array of skaters in top physical form. I'm getting tired of watching Valieva break her own record and receiving over blown scores. She's a talented skater but honestly, the non stop coverage on her is really nauseating. I really believe that if Three A and Rika were skating on top form, the competitions would have been a bit more impressive. Instead, all eyes are rested upon Valieva and there are some who have suggested that the Olympic gold be handed to her. While ignoring the other unique competitors.

I think you're right because who wouldn't want to showcase what Trusova can do. Her ability to hit 5 quads is mind blowing. It may very well depend on her capability following her recovery from injury. Valieva is a phenom even with a boring free skate and Scherbakova has a strong mental game/quads even if her skating skills are not up to par with the others. I think Liza may end up as an alternate but again that'll depend on who is healthy come February.
its true though, i am not rooting for kamila like at all.. with how much she's expected to win, as bad as it sounds i dont want her to get to the olympics? not because i dont think she deserves it, if anything with her skill and technicality she really does but because of how much greater any other story would be.. example: maia; going to the olympics would be the one who no one believed in.. making it, the empress (liza) for instance; every time the world doubts her she makes it somehow and the world really doubts her a hell lot.. like no one actually thought she will get to words lat season but she did it and now i reallyyy want her to get to the Olympics as well cause lets face it… with 6 eteri girls you didn’t think she’d make it but now she actually does have a chance!!!, kostornaia; the one who is literally being publicly criticized and hated on by her freaking coach and every Russian media calling her a 'bad girl' for actually trying to survive training in sambo 70… i just want her to show everyone who’s been hating on her you kow… then you also have sasha; who is suffering from an injury that im lowkey worried might be career ending.. i cant say much cause sasha has been my favorite skater since i got bored in quarantine and decided to get into figure skating so news of her injury really put me in a bad mood however, if she makes it.. thats a story… hell even shchebakova; im sorry but even though she’s as consistent in winning as kamila at this point she still has people rooting for her because well she keeps it interesting like in the italian grand prix when she didn’t win in the short and everyone was like….???? then somehow pulled through like she always does its just a better story… all these stories are better stories cause all these stories have people who are suffering and trying and failing and falling and trying again and succeeding like normal people do… but with kamila… they just dont have the crowd cheering for her because well she doesn’t even seem to need it and that in it self is just sad… because if we really look deep into it, this girl is under so much pressure now because literally the dust on my freaking table is expecting her to win and if she doesn’t then and only then would people sympathize with her…. Hell even if daria somehow had a miracle cure to her injury and made it, it would still be a better story..
I agree like last olympics it was the zagitova vs medvedeva and even at the euros when Alina beat evgenia for the first time people still said evgenia had a chance cause one competition doesn’t decide everything and it came down to just one point but no one actually was clearly favouring zagitova. But now kamila is breaking record after record it’s so boring. The other day I was checking the schedule for the olympics and I saw the ladies and just randomly said out loud “well kamila is going to win so I won’t watch” cause why watch when you know the outcome, and now I find myself interested in the pairs because at least there is no clear absolute favourite. It’s like a 3 way maybe even 4 way race which brings excitement. But if kamila already is beating everyone by 20-30 points why waste your time to watch programs you have already seen some of them for 2 seasons straight just to know the outcome.
@@toxic-low-key-ghost7934 also Alina's win was kinda interesting because of her first interviews in which she cried and said how much she struggled. And she would really help her parents by winning. Hi, Paola. I see, you have difficulty with saying Maya's last name. "Khromykh" is pronounced Hromyh, with the stress on the last syllable. In Russian words the sound "H" is pronounced harder than in English. It is like a forced exhale, while English "H" is a relaxed, free exhale. That is why in English, they transcribe it as "KH". But there is no K, just H. BTW, Hromyh is not an appropriate name for such a nice girl and a skater. It means "of the lames".
Its pretty ironic that the I find Maiia’s performance the most boring despite her consistency. I am always conflicted abt seeing valueva bcs even though her technique might not be perfect and her landings aren’t close to perfect as her scores suggest, she is the most technically sound lady in russia. She is breathtaking to watch, and even though I am in awe of her during the whole skate, I feel no connection
I bet that had the number of qualified athletes with Japan and Russia were reversed, the Japanese Federation would’ve kept the GP Final in a bubble, instead of cancelling it. Furthermore, let’s not forget that they actually changed the JGPF qualifying criteria so that it wouldn’t be an all Russian women final.
You are saying you don't like Kamila because there is nothing abouth her personal life in media. Actually - you are wrong. There are plenty of information, interviews, funny videos and photos etc. She is human - and very charming and interesting one. Not some invincible robot. It seems you just don't want to know her - because it's very easy to find her fan sites in internet with lot of off-ice information about her - starting from her childhood many years ago.
Will you ever do a video on the juniors? Because funnily enough Veronika Zhilina has the best toe touch technique I've seen in ages (even if you can tell she's under Plushenko from the choreo) - or at least it's miles better than the Eteri toe technique, but obviously she won't have the Eteri bonus. And Sofia Akateva's program was also fun to watch, but I really think she's going to get injured soon after becoming a senior with her technique.
Without bad predictions, pls..... Hope that Akatieva will stay heathy. But, i would add- except Veronika ( who is injured, now), Sofia Samodelkina, 14 ys old Davydov's student, lands 3A, 4F, 4S in one program, and even 3 Lz during her practice- she's great talent, also. @@nenavujicin7882 yes I hope she stays healthy too! and I only really believe in the Eteri bonus because of that time Trusova's edge got called but Anna's didn't last year. Also Morris' awful saltoe that did not deserve that score haha. I think if the skaters weren't under Eteri these mistakes would affect their score. I do agree that the Eteri bonus is not a significant as many perceive it to be though. Her skaters mostly get such high scores because they train hard and have very strong and reliable jumps compared to others.
@@cranberry8858 , but, U can check, Morris received - goe for his 4T,.......Yes, Misha and Kazuki have better technique, but they made many mistakes during performing their Fp. Btw, everybody talks about Morrisi's ''saltoe'', that he didn't deserve that score ( regardless of his - goe for 4T), but remember Jason's score ( at Skate Canada), with the bad lutz and axel technique, with the falls and without quadruple jumps. Don't take me wrong, i love Jason, but i would like to see him doing quadruple, so let it be ''saltoe''.
I don't know..just to play devil's advocate, what's wrong with having an athlete so good they're untouchable for a little while? I think that's cool. Yuzuru was pretty untouchable at his peak too. It's honestly nice for me to see people like Kamila in the sport. I love her, she does the opposite of bore me. I think if she weren't from Eteri's camp, people would still be annoyed at some of the score inflation, but they wouldn't be saying stuff like "I'm so bored with her." They'd be giving her due as an athlete. But because people perceive her as a cog in the Eteri machine, it's easy for them to throw out words like "this bores me, this kind of perfection makes things not fun anymore." Seeing someone commit this hard to every movement in a choreo and consistently pull up clean programs isn't fun? Since when? I doubt people would say that kind of thing on a mass scale if there were a skater with the exact same profile as Valieva from Japan. Of course there will always be people who don't like a skater/is bored by a skater so on so forth, but it wouldn't be the primary perception of Kamila if she weren't from that camp.
I felt like Valieva should have won nationals last year with this program. With the 3A being added and a few different elements like the 4S and the 4T 1EU 3S (or 2S from this competition) instead of the 4T 2T from last season she is truly unstoppable. I just hope she can block out the noise until Beijing. Watching her fall in the gala during the footwork reminded me she is human lol. Her face and tongue sticking out when she fell was everything lol. So cute. I feel like Anna was in her head and her injury this season. So sad but understandable :( Would LOVE to see Anna & Kamila in Beijing. I need Liza in Beijing as well though. SHE IS AMAZING
This new variant isn’t making the decision easy…. I really hope they’re not but I want the athletes & everyone else safe… it will definitely make things interesting for next year!!
Anyone know the reason that only Eteri's girls are always wearing gloves? Not that I mind, I've just noticed for the past years ;) I always used to get crap from the rinkmasters because I never wanted to wear gloves during practice because they made me feel less graceful hahah🙃
@@toxic-low-key-ghost7934 Thanks! I was thinking that, but I thought it was fascinating that almost only Eteri's girls opt for them... Maybe their blades are like a 100 times sharper than the rest of the skaters and that that is their secret to all those smol skating machines Turberitze has haha
why is everybody so annoying saying negative shit about kamila. when evgenia was winning everything for like 2 seasons and everybody knew she would go to the olympics im pretty sure nobody said “omg im getting bored” like pls sorry that she’s fucking talented.
He should never have won the men's comp! He took off from his quad toe on a flat blade, making it a quad sal/repeat jump, and his jumps weren't fully rotated. Even Mark pointed it out!! His technique is appalling, and the judges should be marking him down for incorrect entries. The ISU need to step up and put new rulings in place (even though they shouldn't have to! The judges KNOW he's not doing the jumps correctly!) He's not the only one not taking off correctly. I'm just pointing it out as he won. Need to start downgrading pre-rotations and not spotting toe jumps correctly, across the board. The ISU changed the scoring to make skating more technical, but the judges are deliberately ignoring the cheating and bad technique. They need to start rewarding properly done, clean jumps, and deducting marks for bad ones. They put a deduction for a lutz done on the wrong edge, but pre-rotate, take off from a flat blade instead of a toe-pick, underrotate (applies to certain people), and it's "nah, that's fine!" 🙄😳🤦🏼♀️ Valieva was fantastic. I do feel her scores were a bit inflated though. I adore the Empress. I'll be gutted if she doesn't go to Oly's, and I'm going to be really upset! She's been incredible this season, and really deserves that spot. With 10+ years at the top, she most definitely deserves it! ⛸🏴 Maria looks like her jumps are a bit "off" at the mo. I hope her consistency improves. I like her. I'm a huge fan of Loena. She's a real dark horse! She's just improved SO much in the last couple of seasons. I think the pressure got to her at this comp. She looked so nervous. Hope it's just a one-off. Btw, I ADORE her gold dress. It's absolutely stunning on her 😍. Definitely an Olympic year dress 💖
I could agree with U about female figure skating, but what about male !? There is no Olympics without Nathan, Yuzuru, Yuma, Kazuki , Shoma ( Japanese skaters).
I don't know if you've seen it because international media don't speak about it, but in Russia a man from the federation said the olympic had already been decided : Valieva, Tuktamysheva and Shcherbakova. It's kind of a leak and it doesn't seem like it's an official announcement but yeah here you go EDIT : ALSO it seems Zhenya officially announced her withdrawal from competitive skating ... /:
I'm sure you must be right about the Oly team selection, also because what goes behind closed doors within such organisations is something we common people can never know. That said, I'm dying for Elizaveta to get selected for the Games!
@@kamyashrivastava7341 Yes !! Also these choices would be the most reasonable... Sacha isn't consistent enough, Aliona struggles with her triple axel, and Maiia is still behind the other girls. Liza is very consistent, Anna is a fighter and somehow always gets through and Kamila is... Kamila lol
It wasn't suprise me that Moris won. He had 2 silver medals at Rostelecom in the past. If he skates well, he can achieve great success. I'm also proud of him as he is my compatriot 😍🇬🇪
At first glance, because of his body construction, Morisi looks like a basketball player , more than a figure skater, but on the ice, he becomes a real dancer. I like his Sinatra's Medley. As i remember, he was European bronze medalist, also.
All those people saying Kamila and Russian ladies are too dominant and making the sport boring... If you replace that with Yuna Kim or Wakaba on roids no one would be complaining. The xenophobic butthurtedness needs to stop. Yes the Eteri bonus is likely real. Yes Anna has crappy edges. Yes Bolero bores you because you don't have the emotional maturity to connect with that kind of composition yet. But the truth is they're still leagues ahead of the competition even if judges are harsh with them.
Being baby fan like you I can't still tell jums apart but THIS VIDEO popped up and explained that men's first place greatly (the comment section is gold xD) ua-cam.com/video/5CqJbCPbBnw/v-deo.html Basically he jumped salchow (full blade jump) instead of pick jump and got higher rank than should (he both rotated before take off and under rotated the jump in landing, still gaining +1.33) IT'S ETERI BONUS GURL!
Can someone explain to me what is so great about Liza except for her age and triple axel? Her program is probably good for a strip club not the Olympics which is probably not even going to happen. The step sequence is bad, her spins are not impressive at all, she is very slow she is probably the one who’s gets the scores she doesn’t even deserve
she’s done a great job setting herself apart from the rest of the field and putting on a performance! she has absolutely insane FP music, which u say is good for a “strip club” but i, and i believe the majority of the audience, think it’s really fun and different. she’s a grown woman competing against actual children and i think it’s a smart move to do such a different, high energy, and sexy!, program. if you listen and watch the crowd at EVERY comp she’s been at this season, you’ll see that she’s an obvious crowd favorite. so yes, she’s a lot more than just her age and her triple axel, even if her ss and spins aren’t as good as the rest of the russian field
also forgot to mention her consistency. she’s honestly been the most consistent of all the russian girls. even though her program isn’t as difficult as those of kamila or sasha, she hasn’t fallen once this season, which can’t be said for a single other russian skater rn
I couldn’t agree with you more…. She literally has no step sequence & her spins are better this year but they’re not even close to Kamillas’. I’m just thankful we didn’t get ‘jazz hands’ again. Her presentation scores are higher then Kostornaias’. How is that even possible??
@@annazagora6085 I see your point but I’d rather watch someone like Valieva or Trusova or even Kostornaia . Honestly Liza’s program just looks vulgar to me not sexy
You all say "oh, she's 15, that's why she wins". Really? Name me even one skater from past or present who could compete with her at their 15. It's really not about the age.
There are no skaters who can technically compare to her bcs no body was training quads and triple axels until two years ago when Sasha initiated the whole thing. Now that coaches realised that one can only learn quads at a young age and are training their skaters you have a whole army of 10-15 year olds landing all sorts of quads and triple axels every day. And they all could challenge Valieva! It makes no sense looking in the past before this whole quad thing started and say that nobody can challenge her
Sofia Akatieva once she's 15. She's doing the same layout as Valieva's FP right now and in fact she's doing 3A-3T in the SP but is hindered by junior rules requiring a 2A in the SP. Veronika Zhilina is missing a 3A but she also has 2 years to get one to match Valieva. Both girls have excellent spins. They will be the ones to challenge Valieva in the next 2 years. In fact, there was controversy that Akatieva wasn't allowed to participate in senior nationals because of her age as she may win and it's bad momentum for your Olympic champion to be beaten by a junior.
i used to ADORE valieva but now i'm just really bored and annoyed of her...she's incredibly talented but i'm just tired of the russian ladies showing up, winning their medals, then retiring due to injury. and considering some of her technique i worry she's on her way to that path also. like can we PLEASE talk about her combos? like i would be OBSESSED with her programs if her combos weren't...like that. like where's the balance, where's the outside edge, what's with the wobbles, oh my god please it's like a pet peeve. her speed is incredible tho and i'm surprised to see a young lady do quads so effortlessly (don't get me started on scherbakova and trusova's quads). i just feel like pushing skaters to do such difficult jumps when their bodies are still growing could be p nasty in the long run....
To call Valieva boring is plain dumb. Like, you may not be excited by the Mona Lisa painting, but you'd have to be the modern equivalent of a caveman to characterize it as "boring".
I don’t find Kamila boring per se. I like her short program a lot, the problem for me is that boring af free program. Bolero just doesn’t do it for me I guess. I’ve never liked that music piece in a fs program and I probably never will
I totally agree with you. Her SP was the closest thing to perfection I have seen in an ice rink. Remarkable and on another level. I have been hesitant to root for Kamila, but this time my reluctance was just blown away. If "boring" really is the first word that comes to mind, you are more into figure skating for the gossip and drama, and less for the actual performance. Just my 25 cents ...
as much as it hurts to admit it, the true winner of the grand prix series was eteri tutberidze. a stranglehold of the ladies discipline even with two injured athletes, strong pairs contenders, an unlikely male winner and Diana Davis, future OGM of the teams event, getting scored way higher than she should on ice dance. Even though her domain of the womens category was predictable, this overall sucess across all disciplines is unheard of for her, and will only solidify her career as a coach
literally, Eteri won everything!!!!
@@beckyy584 Ah okay, then we're on the same page completely!
Valieva scored higher than even the mens field! She scored about 6-7 points higher than Morisi!
Wait what!!!
Ok, but, what about men, couples and ice dance discipline !?
Overall it gives the athletes more time to recover and practice without interruption. Not a bad thing for the skaters.
Quoting David: “it’s Valieva against Mother Nature.”
Fingers crossed for them to have longevity in their careers..
morisi was EXTREMELY overscored. he shouldn't have been ahead of kolyada. and tomono deserved the gold. say it with me. TOMONO DESERVED THE GOLD
Kazuki is excellent skater, but mistakes he made performing his Fp cost him a lot. Anyway, the Japanese National will be very exciting.

the mens event was so chaotic. i worry for kolyada, its been a while since ive seen a clean skate from him.
also, i dont think maiia has a chance at that third spot for the olympics. at this point its either tuktamysheva/trusova, but only time(and rusnats) will tell. valieva is a lock in and i feel like scherbakova earned that second spot at the gp.

@@avg18 It seems that it has already been decided in Putin's offices that Valieva, Shcherbakova and Tuktamysheva will go. To be honest, I think it's fair. Tuktamysheva performs consistently and we must pay tribute to her age.

But yes I also hope Kostornaia is able to continue; her jumps are still so high and powerful, she just needs to get her confidence back.

with the scores, the world records, the media coverage, etc... its starting to feel like theyre setting Kamila up for inevitable failure because while shes an incredible skater at some point she will fail, just like any other russian lady that was hyped up to high heavens and i dont want to see that. I feel like all this "positive" press is coming off wrong
Like you said, I'm also very bored because like... we know who will end up on the podium. We Know. At this point the olympics can be a zoom meeting. And I dont want to be bored, i love watching this but honestly this competition hearing the scores i just felt very... depressed? Like I honestly didnt feel anything. And this is really not a dig at the skaters, i love these girls but... yeah
Someone pointed dout that Kamilas jump look a little "wonky" in air, like the axis isnt the way it should, and im terrified shes going to land badly one day.
Do you feel the same boredness when Nathan Chen is winning without any chances for his rivals, I wonder? If not - why?
At this point I don’t want kamilla to go to the olympics because of how boring everything is gonna be. Imagine sasha, anna and liza going, there’s no telling who’s gonna win. If sasha delivers crazy jumps she’s winning, if anna flops and liza performs the performance of her life with 2 trixels she will beat anna.. etc the excitement and possibilities are endless. It’s not kami’s fault but those stupid judges killing the competition and the suspension/enjoyment
Edit: she’s great I believe she is the best, however she shouldn’t be scored so high that she’s literally unbeatable! Even If sasha jumps 10 quads+anna gets covid but performs flawlessly and is literally dying on the k&c you know kamilla is still winning. That’s ridiculous
couldn’t agree more.
If Anna Sasha and Liza go Anna will win. Anna easily our scores Liza and Sasha will collapse under Olympic pressure
@@Plaspos there’s still more anticipation by A LOT. We all know russian ladies will place top 3 and those are the three that will give you the most interchangeable podium. Especially with sasha in the mix. With kami you know who’s winning before the competition starts.

There are a lot of programs and interviews with Kamila on Russian TV. There is no "secrecy" about her at all if you know where to look.

1. Highest PSC FP
2. Highest TES SP
3. Highest TES FP
4. Highest SP score
5. Highest FP score
6. Highest Combined score
7. Highest 3A GoE

Morisi shouldn't have won. His Toesal or whatever it was... nope. just nope.
Ikkkk he got the Tutberidze bonus
@@kaisommovigo232 , i'm little bit sick of the theory about ''Tutberidze bonus''. Really. Btw, there was only one judge from Russia ( if U check a Panel of Judges at Rostelecom), even Julia Sebestien, a former European champion, was technical specialist- There is no reason for judges to be biased. Regardless of the fact that Misha and Kazuki are technically better, they made many mistake performing their Free programs. Why such ''dust didn't rise'' when Jason won silver ( at Skate Canada) with two falls , bad lutz and axel technique and program without quadruple jumps !? Whose ''bonus'' Jason's silver medal was ???????
@@nenavujicin7882 Yeah, that wasn't an accurate description and I apologize for that. It's not just the Tutberidze team getting bonuses, but other skaters too. Your right about Misha and Kazuki and how their mistakes cost them the gold at Rostelecom. But there should've been no way that Morisi's quad toe-sal could've gotten positive GOE. But it did, which is part of my frustration a bit. It goes the same way for Jason, Anna, and other skaters with their technique and how they manage to get positive scores. But what happened, happened. I just hope that elements are judged correctly in the future.
@@kaisommovigo232 , hope so !
I’ve been rooting for Mariah Bell for over 5 years now, FIVE YEARS. The fact that she is close to representing the USA at the next Olympics, but her place is still SO unsure, is giving me unhealthy amounts of anxiety
Paola, did you see evgenia’s announcement that she’s retired?? I just saw it today. D:
I was sadden about the severity of her injuries. It is best that she retires.
@@elizabethburrell4756 I agree. Makes me kind of angry that she was robbed of a longer career, but at least she seems content and happy with how her life is going now.
@@alyssonfarris2223 me too when she was still in Canada I saw a video of her and there was a sticker in her car of Beijing and she said “we have to at least try” and she seemed to just have such a strong passion for skating and competing even when times got tough for her and she wasn’t winning she didn’t run waxy from competitions, she persisted. Then she went back to eteri and it was completely over. I get she was injured and maybe she wouldn’t have continued till now even if she stayed in Canada but coming back to Russia changed her mindset. Very sad
where did she announce it? :(
@@sharoxx1894 If you look up the We Love Skating channel, they have a video with translated quotes. It was from an interview. There’s a translation on Twitter I think.
So funny that I felt the same way as you about this competition! It was just meh. It might be fatigue, as you suggested. I did watch the women and was rooting for Liza! Was really looking forward to the Final, but that’s tragically been cancelled.
I still think Scherbakova and Trusova will be on the team with Valieva.
I like those stories. It'd be interesting if Aliona won or Sascha, in my opinion. Anna is a fighter but her performances aren't doing it for me. I just want a story behind the victory of a girl
@@anayarey yesss absolutely and it made us root for Alina in an emotional way also because her story as the underdog who’s coming to beat the undefeated for 2 years at the Olympics was so exciting. The “Russian rivalry” but now there’s nothing. It’s just kamila is going to win end of story. Even in the lens at the last Olympics yuzuru and his injury was the story, is he going to defend his gold medal? Is he fit enough? That was the big news and in the pairs aljiona came back for her 5th and final Olympics up against the Chinese, and in ice dance the virtue Moir and papidakis and cizeron rivalry, they had been neck and neck for the past 2 seasons. Now there is really nothing exciting or no story got get behind.
@@anayarey Sasha winning or aliona would be a good story I agree because Sasha really started the quad revolution and this could be aliona comeback after a rough 2 seasons
does kamila need to get injured for it to be a good story and worth gold medal at the olympics? that just sounds so wrong. at this point ya'll are hating on this 15y.o girl whose career is just starting. if her winning is so predictable and boring, then let's say the same about nathan, papadakis/cizeron, and sui/han.
Kamilas extension out of her jump rly creeps me out fsr
roman shoutout yaasss!!
I hope Olympics are not canceled like final Grand Prix
i NEED Tuktamysheva at the olympics
Are you planning this?? Haha I am lying, there's nobody else.
Love it.
Maybe we should get a whatsapp group😂😂
just one correction, Kamila broke the world record in short program at this competition, it didn't happen at Skate Canada yet
How did they change the qualifying criteria? I’m newer to figure skating so not sure what it used to be.
What?? JSF have no control over border travel restrictions, that's the govt's decision.
And Sofia Akateva's program was also fun to watch, but I really think she's going to get injured soon after becoming a senior with her technique.
by best I mean current russian ladies. standards are low lol
I don't believe in theory about ''Eteri bonus''.
Big fan of Mariah’s SP blue. Against the grain.
Congratulations kamila valieva ❤❤
Of course there will always be people who don't like a skater/is bored by a skater so on so forth, but it wouldn't be the primary perception of Kamila if she weren't from that camp.
because yuzu actually deserved the hype
@@snowangel7980 controversial yet brave fact
LO UNICO QUE QUIERO ES QUE SASHA VAYA A LAS OLIMPIADAS POR FAVOR.
The Olympics will also be cancelled
This new variant isn’t making the decision easy…. I really hope they’re not but I want the athletes & everyone else safe… it will definitely make things interesting for next year!!
i think "postponed" sounds better.
Noooo !!!!!! Are U kidding !?
I feel like every time you post, drama happens
Anyone know the reason that only Eteri's girls are always wearing gloves? Not that I mind, I've just noticed for the past years ;)
I always used to get crap from the rinkmasters because I never wanted to wear gloves during practice because they made me feel less graceful hahah🙃
Because when they do spins and hold their blades, the blades can cut them so the thick gloves prevent that from happening
They put a deduction for a lutz done on the wrong edge, but pre-rotate, take off from a flat blade instead of a toe-pick, underrotate (applies to certain people), and it's "nah, that's fine!" 🙄😳🤦🏼♀️
Valieva was fantastic. I do feel her scores were a bit inflated though.
I adore the Empress. I'll be gutted if she doesn't go to Oly's, and I'm going to be really upset! She's been incredible this season, and really deserves that spot. With 10+ years at the top, she most definitely deserves it! ⛸🏴
Maria looks like her jumps are a bit "off" at the mo.
STILL waiting for you to recognize the Japanese team's stunning rise to the top!
And now, the final is canceled. What are they going to doooo???!!! ☠️
Stop hating on Valieva. Not her fault she’s so good. It’s like your searching for negative stuff to say. Just be happy we get to see such greatness.

LAY OFF KAMILA NO ONE IS BORED WITH HER AMAZING ABILITY SHE DESERVES ALL THOSE SCORES I LOVE HER
How how are you
You all say "oh, she's 15, that's why she wins". Really? Name me even one skater from past or present who could compete with her at their 15. It's really not about the age.
Right! But the younger you are, you probably have a better chance of winning
It makes no sense looking in the past before this whole quad thing started and say that nobody can challenge her
And if she lands every jump Trusova can score heigher then Valieva even without triple axel!
@@qwertyuio606 for sure, because she's from new generation. But if we talk about those who are 15+ right now, there is nobody.
i used to ADORE valieva but now i'm just really bored and annoyed of her...she's incredibly talented but i'm just tired of the russian ladies showing up, winning their medals, then retiring due to injury. and considering some of her technique i worry she's on her way to that path also. like can we PLEASE talk about her combos? like i would be OBSESSED with her programs if her combos weren't...like that. like where's the balance, where's the outside edge, what's with the wobbles, oh my god please it's like a pet peeve. her speed is incredible tho and i'm surprised to see a young lady do quads so effortlessly (don't get me started on scherbakova and trusova's quads). i just feel like pushing skaters to do such difficult jumps when their bodies are still growing could be p nasty in the long run....
Just my 25 cents ...
they will not send maya anyway to the olympics. its obvious to russian people. so i m sorry for maya.
You sound really ungrateful when you talk about being bored by Valieva's story. Can't relate.
Morisi....is one of the worst skaters I have ever seen and I'm so pissed he's getting the Eteri bonus too.
