Really all of Monty Python's Flying Circus and the films are super meta. All of Flying Circus and I think all the films are on Netflix so anyone who hasn't seen them, watch them.
That was literally my first thought. I recently watched a video that made a solid argument that Monte Pythons Holy Grail is what influenced this generation’s infatuation with meta fiction.
I love Last Action Hero, but with the current state of Hollywood, there's no other movie that I think deserves to be remade more. The movie would be about them rebooting the Jack Slater movies. Who do they get for the Jack Slater remake? The Rock, of course. This movie writes itself!
There is also a very meta french parody movie called "La Cité de la Peur". Don't know whether there is a sub or dub version of it though. For example: at one moment they say that they didn't have the money to do the sounds for the scene, so you get people doing the sounds themselves, but then the recording session gets disturbed by someone offering coffee ... While the scene as the visuals still continue! It's completely crazy but great!
The Onion Movie is also quite special. It is mostly a collection of sketches. There are moments in the Film where they discuss what the people think about the film!
To switch it up a bit there is a meta joke in Deadpool 2 that I did not like and it made me think of these in a different way. Slight spoiler for DP2. Its only one line in the film so don’t hate. At a point in the film two CG characters are about to fight and Deadpool says something like get ready for a huge CGI fight! Although most of the jokes in DP2 work for me this one in particular took me out of the film. I was already thinking that at points the CG looked a bit off but pointing it out made it so much more obvious to me. I already know that these things are CG and it made it so noticeable it took me out of the film which got me thinking that meta jokes can be dangerous. When I watch a movie I want to be transported into a different world. I want to escape to a place where I can be entertained for 90 minutes. These jokes essentially remind you that you are watching a movie and when you have a film like Deadpool pointing out to you every 5 minutes it could be off putting to some. I honestly haven’t been thinking of this before and I hope it doesn’t ruin it for me. I don’t think it will and I guess I’ll see soon because I do want to watch Deadpool 2 again. I just thought this was an interesting perspective on meta jokes that I thought I’d share.
btw I am never able to recognize your channel or thumbnails because sometimes (tbh) they kinda basic, but I wanted to see your one on motherhood again because it had some golden shit for my Mother's Day card, but was so sad because I thought your channel was deleted and could not for the life of me remember what your channel name was or what your thumbnails looked like . Uhh, moral to the story, love your vids, but maybe make yourself more recognizable ? I know who Casey neistat is, I know who Phillip DeFranco is, who h3h3 is, who game theorist is, I like you, don't get swept under the mat plz
Naked Gun is awesome! And Funny Games USA was a shot for shot remake of the original by the same director... ;) And in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, George Lazenby looks at the camera and says, "This never happened to the other guy" taking about Sean Connery as 007...
I'm a junior in high school and literally the best part of my day is coming home to watch your videos, old or new, you're by far the best youtuber on the platform! By doing what you're doing you're living out my dream by reviewing movies and just doing what you want. I just want high school to be over so i can go to college and study film, thank you for everything you do!
Umm, has anyone else here seen 'Black Dynamite'? I think it's funny, and though it doesn't really break the fourth wall, it is self-aware... A valid criticism would probably be 'It's a one joke movie', so one joke just stretched out, but I think it's a funny joke; and hey, it worked for 'Deadpool', right?
fight club and kiss kiss bang bang are the BEST movies that do this. the funniest 4th wall breaking moments belong to tropic thunder (the opening!), 22 jump street (the credits!), zombieland and last action hero (everything in it!)
Yo you gonna cover 13 reasons why ssn 2? I'm honestly so glad I watched your last vid last year, because it got me having really low expectations since I agreed on all of your points and that made the series REALLY exceed my expectations till now ( I'm at episode 4 only but whatever lol). I just think they did hell of a better job at tackling the suicide issue, who knows what you'll think.
My favourite instance of a meta-moment was in the movie “in Bruges” at the end where there is a shoot out and the two can’t meet eachother because the pregnant woman is sitting at the stairs to prevent anything from happening as one is up stairs and one is down and the girl says “why don’t you put the guns down and go home” and the harry says “ don’t be stupid... it’s the shoot out”
at the end of Memories of Murders, the protagonist looks at the camera just to see the real-life murderer who might have come to the theaters to recall his actual memories of murders. this will be the most memorable 4th wall break for me
'The Return of the killer tomatoes', Come on!!!! They run out of budget at the middle of the film and they have to use product placement to finish the story... Take that, Michael Ba-itch!!
You miss the 3rd most important instance of all=Star Trek's The Cage which Star Trek the next generation picks up on with Q who you should by now know who/what Q is hence QA-NON which is also an esoteric reference to the Enterprise the 1701 where Q shows up to do the Q & A & why does he do this because you are in a prison that is called itself the Q which is an AI prison as all realities are simulation meaning this is a prison for your mind for you your program. Red dress people are walls they are programs which are also literal prison walls=human shields. What does Rothschild mean it means red sign or red shield it means they keep you in the red=debt=chaos=poisoned hence the motto of FreeMasons ordo ab chao meaning order from chaos get it their order IS entropy/chaos skull & bones baby go on top of what the HILL the GRAVE the KURGAN the PYRAMID the Q which is what a HILL/burial mound is in hieroglyph. Also look at StarWars creator name remembering that GE-OR-GE means Jar Jar in hieroglyph not that you know how to read them. Henry Walker means skywalker BUSH... The good guys/gals maybe aren't good
8 1/2, the Mask, Fight Club, the wolf of wall street, on her majesty secret service, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, The Hudsucker Proxy, Psycho, The Big Lebowski.
Oooh, hard to pick a favorite 4th wall break; but, the ones I loved as a kid and still love are in WB comics like the Road Runner (without even using words) and Buggs Bunny dryly commenting on social issues or logical mistakes, and most of Animaniacs. Since those were usually TV shows, I'd have to pick most Mel Brooks films, Monty Python movies, the Naked Gun series, Airplane, and The Princess Bride.
Now that I think of it.... You know how the storm in The Hurricane Heist (which I still gotta see) looks like the storm from Into The Storm..... What if that hurricane brought about those tornadoes???? What if each movie is poking at the other..... But then that would mean they would either have to take place both in 2014 or both in 2018..... And from what I know Into The Storm takes place in 14... Possibilities though.
Most of Von-Trier movies, he tends to have his actors break the fourth wall by looking slightly into the camera for a brief moment...fucks me up whenever he does that; it's so unexpected, he often breaks the wall post/near emotional moments in his films..
3:34 I was confused cause I thought the movie was called The Rundown, but that’s only the American title, internationally it was titled Welcome to The Jungle.
Dasepo Naughty Girls and the movie Flower Boys are two Asian films that master the fourth wall break. They also both play on common Korean and Japanese tropes and social issues (at least at the time they came out).
I'll be honest. Funny games was good and dark, and in a weird way I think I love it? Maybe thats my twisted and morbid curiosity then again its still a great movie that creeps me out.
How did nobody say Monty Python and the Holy Grail?
Really all of Monty Python's Flying Circus and the films are super meta. All of Flying Circus and I think all the films are on Netflix so anyone who hasn't seen them, watch them.

i havent watched yet....im just assuming blazing saddles is in there...they literally broke the fourth wall...possibly how it got its name?
nvm, first thing mentioned...subscribing?
"I hear Yanni" LOLOLOL
I love Last Action Hero, but with the current state of Hollywood, there's no other movie that I think deserves to be remade more. The movie would be about them rebooting the Jack Slater movies. Who do they get for the Jack Slater remake? The Rock, of course. This movie writes itself!
The Emperor's New Groove is the best.
Also props for actually noticing the meta commentary in JW.
The holy mountain's the final scene. A move that is like taking a tab of acid.
Funny Games 4th wall break is stunning, terrifying and gut-wrenching.
I was waiting for Funny Games! Glad it was mentioned!
GandheeTV i just had to bring up the remote scene
Speaking of Adaption I also think about "Stranger Than Fiction". And Kaufman you'd also have to think about "Being John Malkovich"
If we’re talking about movies being written in movies... why did no one bring up Seven Psychopaths?
1:53 I didn't know that!!!
Thank god someone says something about last action hero, it’s sooo good
i know that its not a movie but the one community movie where abed makes a film about him was ssssooooo meta
My favourite UA-camr ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No ones gonna bring up Wayne's World?!
I know right? The product placement scene is probably my favorite 4th-wall break scene.
There is a french movie with a great example of that, it's called "Akoibon". It's really weird and fresh, I'll recommend it.
What about Tropic Thunder?
Casa de mi Padre?..🤔😬novelas movie, I’m pretty pretty sure there’s a 4th wall there sum where...
Last action hero's sooooo gooood!
loool now ima go watch men in tightS!
Monty Python and the Holy grail.
"I hear yanny." DUDE
1997's Funny Games
The Cabin in the Woods is clever too, but I'm not a fan of Deadpool though
btw I am never able to recognize your channel or thumbnails because sometimes (tbh) they kinda basic, but I wanted to see your one on motherhood again because it had some golden shit for my Mother's Day card, but was so sad because I thought your channel was deleted and could not for the life of me remember what your channel name was or what your thumbnails looked like . The best meta movie is obviously Teen Titans Go To The Movies duh
Early
Othello. Iago
Deadpool dies hehe
Really no fight club or Scott pilgrim vs the world
I loved Peter Rabbit for its meta humor, like the character flaws and consistent reality.
I hit the like button so mark when he said “I hear yanny” 😂
A Series of Unfortunate Events on Netflix is hella meta... not a movie, a TV show; but it's great 👌🏽
10:13 .....WHAT?????? SYNECDOCHE???? for years i have been calling it SYNDICATE!!!! mind blown....
So no princess bride?
Jodorosky is God. El topo, Santa Sangre, and the holy mountain are all 10/10.
Tucker and dale vs evil is also super fun
Naked Gun is awesome! And Funny Games USA was a shot for shot remake of the original by the same director... ;) And in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, George Lazenby looks at the camera and says, "This never happened to the other guy" taking about Sean Connery as 007...

Keep following your dream dude
8 1/2, Mulholland Dr, sunset Blvd, why don't you play in hell , jay and silent bob strike back, tropic thunder

You’re my favorite UA-camr.
I'm late to the party but I would include every episode of the Netflix show Blazing Transfer Students. It's pure meta in every frame.
There making a new naked gun movies, and it’s not a comedy..... ITS NOT A COMEDY
South Park, Bigger, Longer and Uncut dealt with themes that we are seen nowadays, like censorship and ratings... it's just awesome
LAST ACTION HERO.
MKSongbird is *AMAZING*
Does Tropic Thunder count? Not truly fourth-wall breaking, but definitely meta to the extreme
My favorite 4th-wall break scene is the product placement scene in Wayne's World.
My favourite instance of a meta-moment was in the movie “in Bruges” at the end where there is a shoot out and the two can’t meet eachother because the pregnant woman is sitting at the stairs to prevent anything from happening as one is up stairs and one is down and the girl says “why don’t you put the guns down and go home” and the harry says “ don’t be stupid... it’s the shoot out”
I’m really surprised no one said Austin Powers or Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Ummm..... Wayne's World!?
I know right?
at the end of Memories of Murders, the protagonist looks at the camera just to see the real-life murderer who might have come to the theaters to recall his actual memories of murders. this will be the most memorable 4th wall break for me
does Close-Up by Kiarostami count?
also Scott Pilgrim

Ferris Beuler’s day off is definitely the best

No Truman Show😱
Wes Craven’s New Nightmare is a meta masterpiece

Where is "Annie Hall" of Woody Allen ??
....
Brillant, awesome and the first real Break the Fourth Wall !
Ferris Bueller's Day Off. End of discussion. (joke) But legit that's the top for me.
I'll be honest. Funny games was good and dark, and in a weird way I think I love it? Maybe thats my twisted and morbid curiosity then again its still a great movie that creeps me out.

No one said Popstar : Never Stop , Never stopping by The Lonely Island? What?
That Inception poster the one with the just one guy who looks like Nolan looks like the DVD cover for Geostorm
I had no idea that Men in Tights was poorly regarded, its fucking hilarious!
