Always reduces me to blubbering 😭 wreck when I hear that music! There’s something almost primeval in watching a horse & rider moving together with such grace and majesty.
I was so lucky to meet Bob and he and I fed strawberries to Aldaniti. One of the best memories of my life. This truly is Aldaniti running, I recognise the profile. Bliss.
I live in Aintree just off Melling Road. At the end of the film as John Hurt is riding Aldaniti to the winning enclosure you see a young lad wearing a sheepskin and cap. . .that's me aged fourteen.
Well done you its amazing to be associated with such an amazing film and soundtrack, probably the most iconic score for anyone who loves horses, my absolute favourite 😍😭😁 all at once
Makes me think of glorious April Saturdays over the years watching the Grand National with my grandfather. For me, it was the best day of the year. Happy memories indeed.
Yes the score was long used in the run ups to nationals on Grandstand for many a year as everyone involved in racing knows the story and its impact, I would be crying every year even before the race started, wonderful stuff 🥰
Amazing stuff and I remember the same emotions with my dad. The Grand National had a special feeling to it and it was a huge occasion to watch it once a year. Nowadays it’s just a race not the experience it was.
@@JK-ln8zv couldn’t agree more, it was just different times, in many ways better, before we had access to literally everything on the internet. This film and score will last the test of time for me though, so many memories on so many levels, the jockeys, trainers, owners, families, friends, the deadly nature of the national course including the dreaded Bechers Brook, all of this reminds us of the magic of when we were young and the national had us trapped by its romance 🤩🤩🤩
@@JSB-IZ-ME I was on both Spartan Missile and Royal Mail but didn't care been 2nd & 3rd to Aldaneti as My Man had backed him, so we were all winners that day. Can still see The tears in Mam's Eyes. God Rest her Soul. ❤
An absolutely beautiful and moving piece of music which suits the film perfectly. Rest In Peace to composer Carl Davis, and to John Hurt, who played Bob Champion, and, of course, to the horse Aldaniti. ( forgive me if the spelling is wrong!)
Aldaneti wins a Tearjerker, From the moment I hear that music I'm in tears, One of the Most Emotional Day's we will ever witness in Racing. My Mam backed him and I can still see the tears in her eyes. God Rest you Mam. 😓
I am exactly the same. Very emotional every time I hear the music, yet very inspiring to us that have been through it. May God bless you and hope you are well.
Absolute most heart rendering music for the sport of Kings ever, Go Aldaniti, Bob and Josh Gifford Go... PS love you Spartan Missile, Royal Mail, 3 to 1 and the unforgettable John Hurt xxx
As much as I loved the movie, I wish Aldaniti's recovery from a leg injury so severe the vets thought his racing days were over had been covered in more depth than it was.
@@nancysherburne7445 yes completely I guess the film was angled more toward Bobs story and Aldaniti / Josh Gifford were more like supporting roles but 100% Aldaniti was a wonderful horse when sound and Josh Gifford a great trainer also. Those that know racing understand the whole story 🥰
That time of year again and ITV are showing the national, I have to come back and listen to the true anthem of aintree because this is the race of champions every rider and every horse that has rode this great race are true champions!
For my dad struggling through chemo... Sometimes when things go wrong We try to understand Why the world stops turning And takes away the things we planned And sometimes we walk alone No one appears to care Sometimes we long for someone To be the answer to every prayer When through the mist of my tears now I saw you I knew I'd waited for you To find all the dreams that lost their way Who knows if we will win God knows we won't give in There is no yesterday now There's just today now To find my way with you Some say that miracles never happen But now I know they happen When love goes along to show the way Who knows if we will win God knows we won't give in There is no yesterday now There's just today now To find my way With you
Please remember when Bob Champion, recovering from cancer, rode Aldaniti, a lame horse destined for retirement, to win the greatest steeple chase in the world, the fences were not altered and much bigger than they are now. Beechers Brook for instance was six foot high on the take off side and dropped down to eleven foot on the landing side. Its a miracle anyone anyone jumped it back then..
A heartwarming true story about two incredible stars who overcame all the odds.I was fortunate to meet both of them in a parade,Bob was an inspiration to everyone there as i'm sure all cancer survivors are.God bless to you all.
When Red Rum won the National the 3rd time, the whole of Aintree cried. When Aldanti and Bob Champion the whole country cried. But you also have to realise that the promise to ride Aldanti in the National was the only reason that kept Bob Champion going.
Takes me back to a much simpler time, of only four TV channels, of the sporting crown jewels on BBC being watched by millions as an event. The Ashes, F1, The Open, European Cup.
Glad to see the BBC still use this for the National each year. Brings a lump to the throat. (Despite the awful loss of another two wonderful horses this year)
Tomorrow is the 22 national and I will be there this music and the film show what a magical place aiintree is it's the only place to be on the day it has an atmosphere like nowhere else you can keep Cheltenham aintree is heaven on earth to me
i have the dvd of this film and it always makes me cry when bob champion and aldaniti wins the grand national as it show the determination of both bob champion and aldaniti to win the hardest horse race
I remember as a 9 or 10yr old kid getting a Newmarket rug and thinking it was the actual one as worn by the likes of Red Rum and Aldaniti. My Dad was a lying git 😂
I won a bit on this one. I was eleven years old. My dad went to the bookies with my pocket money. I did ask him to btw. The story was inspiring it was worth a whole 50p. Fab inspiring story. They're still using this theme in 2023 on the coverage!! The protesters have a right to protest. I respect that. But race horses are treated like royalty at their stables and no one can force a horse to do something it doesn't want to do. No one said rally driving should be banned last week when Craig Breen passed after an accident did they? Condolences to his family and friends. And condolences to the owner and training team of the horse that died in this year's National. Peace to u all❤
The grandstands at aintree are fantastic now, the race still brings the nation to a stand still, and it's thanks to the likes of aldaniti and red rum that makes this race the worlds greatest steeplechase
I really hope they do.It sums up everything about the Grand National...that one moment when one horse and one triumph against all odds...sends a shiver down my spine.
The greatest spectacle, the greatest steeplechase and the biggest annual event in the sporting calendar; The Grand National. All those who dare ride in it are heroes.
I would love to do a kur to this music, from 2.26 to the end. Would be fantastic and am suprised no one has used it yet. Always makes me sob my heart out when i hear it. Fantastic story, with two greats that will never be forgotten,
Met Bob at Huntingdon races years after this. Nice man -despite the nasty gossips that seemed to creep out of the woodwork after this fantastic win with Aldaniti. As for this soundtrack-what more do you want.
Bob Champion...a film i watched again and again, a theme that went through my head everytime i tripled up my leathers and pretended i was jockey on my first pnoy.... and boy that chestnut arab mare could move!!!! hoped i was i cross of ginny leng and jinny by patricia leitch but with his courage. alot older now (34 yiokes) and still being mad with horses doing polo wierdly..... but bob is a genuine equestrian hero and inspriation...thank you for putting this on. ps read the book..its fantastic.
Wouldn't it be lovely if Channel 4 Racing used this music for the 2013 Grand Natioanl intorduction like the BBC used to do? It is now synonymous with Aintree, Aldaniti, Bob Champion, Josh Gifford and the Embiricos family. I do miss the racing coverage on BBC
The actual video from the race is on youtube. Just incredible, especially at the end when Aldaniti fights off a last minute challenge. And, of course, he plays himself in the movie. I love it at the end when they are surrounded by mounted police officers and you realize that he's just a little horse!

I'm with you, it's a fabulous piece and very emotional...Carl Davis is a genius ❤
if you do not get a lump in the throat or a tear in the eye you are made of stone stunning piece of music gets the emotion of national hunt racing
Written by the late Carl Davis who died recently and still played on the day of the Grand National.
