Rakim was called the first ever real MC in hip hop, back then hip hop was just reciting lyrics. Rakim invented ‘flow’ and changed hip hop forever

Eric B for President 😂 They are above the RRHOF. That whole organization is a racket to squeeze artists for $20k/ticket, while using their attendance, performances, etc for the financial gain of the owner of the RRHOF. Last I heard, it was owned by the same guy who owns Rolling Stone magazine lol
No dope MC in hiphop needs an award for validation. Those who know already love them.

Back then the debate between who was the best came down to two. Rakim or Big daddy Kane. I personally thought MOE Dee was just as good been back then. But after going back and listening to KRS ONE I’ve revised my top 4. 1. Rakim 2. MOE DEE 3. KRS ONE 4. Big daddy Kane.

Eric B & Rakim set the tone for hip hop to move to the next level within main stream music .. The visuals with the lyrics, it was all so ground breaking.

To me there are 3 songs that changed HipHop at the time of their release. One is "The Message" It's like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how I keep from going under. Then came "Sucker MC" by Run DMC. You didn't hear rap like that at that time. Then finally came "Dead President s" by Eric B and Rakim. Those 3 songs took rap to another level. In my opinion those are probably the most influencal rap hits of all time. Changed the game after that. If you disagree, let me know what you think is more influencal.

Rakim is a god MC but we all know that, what doesn't get talked about enough in HipHop history though is how revolutionary Eric B was in terms of mixing and production, he was never the flashiest DJ in a purely technical sense but his ear for picking and mixing samples and his sense of timing and rhythm and pacing were all incredible, and nobody was making beats as diverse as B was back then, people always talk about Paul's Boutique as being a revolutionary album (and it was and still is) but without Eric B doin it first then the Beastie Boys would have never been inspired to make Paul's Boutique

Rakim had the clearest delivery of all rappers. Each syllable was perfect, intonation and accent exactly where he wanted your attention.
The sonic wall of samples was a masterpiece and nothing like this could be done today due to copyright laws
