For those interested, here's a list of things I absolutely adore about this song.
The fact that it happens directly after "Breathe In, Breathe Out." I love when songs have continuity!
The lighting in the set for the music studio. Those heavy shadows and blue lights are an aesthetic I live for.
The way the sound is mixed/filtered whenever we see the video from one of those CRT tv screens. Not only is it a cool gimmick for the music video, it also just plain sounds cool and was used really well to keep the song from getting repetitive near the end. You'd be surprised by how big of a difference in your attention span can be made by such a small editing trick. Speaking of...
The audio mixing/mastering. This song is so well put together and I love the sound! It'd be really easy for those drums to fade into the background or for that guitar synth on the keyboard to overshadow everything else, but every sound is clear and distinct. I wish I could blend my audio like that.
Last audio thing I swear, but the effects on the vocals are so clean.
I also, of course, love the lyrics, melody, hook, and songwriting in general, but this is Blanks so I was always going to like those. I'm still impressed by them, but at this point I kind of just know I'm going to love those things from Simon so I don't always point them out.
Anyway, thanks for another banger! This is going on the playlist for sure.
