I agree about the prismas not having enough purples! The silver lining is that it challenged me to blend my own purples using red and blues.

roll up some paper stick it in first and then stick your eraser stump back in so that when you push down it has some resistance.

A tip for your Derwent electric eraser…. Either put a new rubber in and use the older one under it to prevent it from pushing in or you can insert a tiny rolled up piece of paper under it and it will also prevent the rubber from pushing in when using. 😊

The Afmat electric eraser is my favorite (I previously used the Derwent) but the Afmat is rechargeable with a USB cord, and I was still able to use my previously purchased Derwent eraser refills for it. The downfall is that the button is very sensitive and I found if it bumped up against aomething in my bag (when coloring on the go) that it would turn on. So I purchased a hardhell eyeglasses case to put it and some eraser refills (this one has the same size as Derwent plus a much smaller size as well)

Hello! I am a newer subscriber to your channel and am so happy the algorithm finally introduced us!
I know the price point is high (luckily I worked for an amazing doctor who knew I loved art supplies) but the Caran D'Ache Pablos are incredible pencils. So many unique colors that aren't in other sets. (Olive grey, olive black, greyish green, raspberry red, light beige, their light lemon yellow and lime green are so cool too) They are a great balance between soft like prisma and hard like polychromos. And they can be purchased open stock so even just buying some of the more unique colors is well worth it. Though, they also lack in the purple range. Honestly the best purple range I know of, but unfortunately not the highest quality, is the Starjoy Gold set. Is there a set you recommend for a good range of purples?
When I run into a prisma pencil that keeps breaking or lead falling apart while sharpening, if its a hot summer day, I put it in direct sunlight for a while to melt that internal lead core back together. But since I live in Minnesota and we don't have warm sunshine most of the year, I will put it next to a hot pot on my stove (electric flatop stove) to warm it up. Ive thought about the microwave before but I dont know if there's some metallic elements in the pigment or the writing on the pencil itself. I bet under the electric blanket for a while could work too?
    Happy coloring!

Something to think about, I have seen some colorists that buy two copies of books that are double-sided. They then color the left pages in one book and the right pages in the other book! 🤗 You have definitely influenced my Christmas haul, lol!! 🎄😂

I always buy 2 copies of my favorite artists books. Not only is it beneficial to me (in case I want to use a wet medium or totally ruin a page with my "talent" haha) but it also gives the artist an extra sale. Johanna, Hannah Karlzon, Kerry Rosanes and Rowon. Always double up!

Love this style of video. You turned me onto the [square] Brutfuners, and I use them more than my Prismacolours. Does anyone else do that ie keep a 'good' set for some obscure reason? I am keeping my eyes peeled for a repeat Amazon Prisma bargain like the one a few months back ie 132 Prismas for AUD123. My bum is bruised fr kicking myself...why didn't I buy another set when they were reduced again only a few weeks ago = then I could have TWO good sets not to use. Sigh! Best seasonal wishes everyone.

I'm to a point in my journey where I'm ready to start exploring the white pens for highlights. Unfortunately I have to drive about an hour to get to the store that has them in open stock. I really want to try the Poscas but my local craft stores only have sets of Poscas. Backgrounds still intimidate me but I think I'm going to try using the Distressed ink with a really cool stamp. I have a stamp that's just random bubbles. I don't think I have the nerve, yet, to try watercolors 😂 but I think my next big purchase will be some watercolor pencils. I think that might be the best way for me to dip my toes into watercolor without using real watercolors until I'm more confident. Something I've been thinking about is trying to put together a wee travel kit so I can take my art when I'm traveling. I also do a lot of crochet and it's easier to toss that in a bag and work in the car but sometimes I'm not in the mood to crochet and I'll be traveling to a place where I can be still long enough to get some coloring done but traveling with all my supplies would be challenging. I think Johanna Basford has a few mini books, smaller than Small Victories, but bringing only the basic primary pencils is where I will struggle. I'd love your advice on putting together a travel kit for our art. Maybe a new video idea 🤔❤

I have the Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils and The Ohulu Honolulu Alcohol Markers. They are my favorite.

For ohuhu, they wouldn't ship to me, so I went with a 168 set touchnew brush markers. From swatching mine and watching others ohuhu vids, I saw a lot of overlap in the shades and names. I used ohuhu swatches to color order my touchnews.
Ergo, my crackpot theory is that ohuhu uses the same Chinese manufacturer, which explains the odd names (translation issues), but they do invest more for the thicker, sturdier barrels, the larger amount of ink (my touchnews are skinnier than ohuhu), the refill system etc.
With Prismacolors, I just can't justify their cost in my area with their poor quality control. For me, a 150 set of prisma is sitting at £219 now. I could get a 150 set of derwent chromaflows for £99, I could get the polychromos full set that are actually lightfast for less than the prismas. All this to say, no prismas for me 😅

I have Born watercolour pencils but I’m not a fan. I do really like Derwent Academy watercolour pencils as a cheap option. Colours are really vibrant and they don’t leave pencil marks once water is added. I think I paid $30 for a set of 24 from Officeworks.

    Nice picks.
You might keep an eye on availability for the Afmat brand of powered eraser. They're rechargeable, have two eraser sizes, and have a refill kit. If you have a cement floor, put a piece of duct tape around the middle of the eraser's body, like a belt. When it takes a severe drop, it might save the poor thing from blowing apart. Lesson painfully learned.
Please, please don't get in the habit of calling everything "bad boys." It makes me cringe. A PTSD reaction due to reminders of a person I wish I'd never known. Colorfully Optimistic seems to be behind the epidemic of UA-camrs adopting the phrase.

Prismacolor moved their manufacturing to Mexico, and the quality suffered. Almost all pro artists slam Prismsacolors now. That being said, I have a full set of Luminence, Pablos, Polychromos and Holbeins. As well as Black Widows. And while those pencils are superior pencils (Black Widows are about the same level), not one of those has the color range of Prismacolor. So I always seem to go back or pair them with one of the more expensive brands.

    • @apicturedpurpose
      @apicturedpurpose  19 годин тому

Cannot buy fine point. (The entire Pentel Milky Pop and Pentel Sparkle Pop series are great!) The black/red sparkle pens are fun!
