A bit of an oversight for a neurologist to forget to mention that MCT has been prescribed for managing epilepsy for 100 years... for cases where drugs aren't working well. The recent evidence and reviews strongly support the notion that MCT gets into the brain and works as fuel; in elderly people, glucose nutrition in neurons becomes weaker.
Stephan Cunname has published cognitive testing after 2 tablespoons MCT treatment for a few months, if I recall. Not much dispute these days that ketones are superior nutrition for brain cells in elderly people. MCT is one route to shift in that direction. Intermittent fasting (breakfast at noon) is another since the liver is depleted of glucose storage after 10 hours or so.@@GurungyNoHamuster
I believe most people take MCT oil for a quick boost while on a ketogenic diet. From what I understand, MCT oil is converted into ketones in the liver and can enter the mitochondria directly increasing ATP. Since ketones can cross the blood brain barrier, it seems to clear any “brain fog”. If anyone here fasts for longer than 16-18hrs, build up to 1Tbsp of C8 MCT and take it near the end of your fast. Please report back and tell me how you feel.
I work two jobs and I've always had brain fog in the morning. Started taking MCT oil. Besides some mild stomach cramps in the first hour, brain fog is just gone. It's amazing and I feel full on less food. Absolutely amazing
@SoTiredoftheToxicBS so I take two mct products, one is a generic c8 c10 blend from Hy-Vee that I like in my morning coffee but the main one I use now is a powder called MCT Wellness from Dr Gundrys nutrition website. I feel the clarity within minutes. Super good. They're a bit pricy at about 50 to 60 bucks, but I think it is worth it. Eat a good diet and the weight just starts to dwindle. Evidence is obtained from people living in coastal areas in East Africa, when they get older they don't forget their children like people living in the hinterland high in the mountains where there's no coconuts. People living in coastal areas have their food prepared with coconut milk.
So pertaining to " brain fuel ", there needs to be " more data/ more studies". However, it's surprising she didn't mention the many known benefits. One in particular would be weight loss and digestion.
No mention of Stephen Cunnane' s studies on the ability of ketones to counteract the aging brains energy gap. Yes, metabolic flexibility from a mildly ketogenic diet is probably preferable. It's early days, but still I wouldn't dismiss MCT as a useful tool to offset the glucose shortfall, until something better comes along.
Yes if there is someone who knows then there is Dr Stephen Cunnane. I have read dozens articles published in scientific journals, there is a lot more and it is now estimated he wrote more than 350 of them. There are a dozen videos on youtube where he explains all about one needs to know to start taking MTC to help to counteract the 10% brain energy gap of asymtomatic aging brains which is refered as mild cognitive impairment which precedes the diagnosis of Alzheimer deseas. He patented a ketone drink, Nestle started to comercialized it 'under 'brainExpert'', 15 ml twice a day for mild cognitive impairment. 15 ml a day is not a lot, but it was necessary to be that low to avoid at all cost diahrea. It is stated that's useless if you don't exercise, if you don't socialise and have no support, A google search of University of Sherbrooke and Stephen Cunnane will lead you to see his research. I'm not sure anything better will come out soon. MTC play an essential crucial role to nourish baby brain long before birth and years to untill he becomes an adult. Dr Cunnane explains this very clearly in a podcast video here on youtube. Beside 5 millions for a study with 300 people, the major issues with MTC oil are to overcome risks of diahrea. I have a condition prone to diarhea following a surgery to remove the colon to avoid cancer. To avoid to have diahrea every hour I relied on soluble fiber, it really helped when applied. 10 years later I began to have severe symtoms of immediate memory loose before covid but could not take care of that because I had to take care of my wife who had cancer and died when Montreal was on a lock down. Things kept worsening for me, missing air plaines, loosing computer, cell phones and the list could go on and on. At the end of this summer, 5 years after the first time I talked to my doctor about my memory, it was impossible to book an apointment. She offered me to prescribe a memory pill. I began to take MTC oil after seeing a video of Mary Newport in September. I had a brain scan done in Mexico on november 28th. The results were devastating. The radiologist took a good time to show me that I was in serious condition, he had never a brain so petrified prior a diagnosis of AD. I brought with me from Canada three suitecas loaded with dietary soluble fibers proteins and very high grade Urolethin A and spirilina. I began to take 20 ml of MTC every 3 hours. Now I take 30ml, and I take half avocado to avoid stomac cramp. I will cut that in half by December 20. I hope that cut that down by another half by january first to around 100 ml a day. Today I went out to look for a litre of canabis oil. Memory improved a lot since I started that november 28. It"s seems that most of the cells didn't die, but will the Mito Pure which is 500 mg of Urolethin A hold it's promise to recycle these starved old cells? I will have a scan done in April before leaving Mexico. I will go down to Sherbrooke University where Dr Cunnane has his laboratory and show him the 2 scans. I'm sure that my touting with fibers over a decade will trigger his curiosity. I probably over did it, but I managed to avoid diarhea. Will he be interested to see the glucose and ketones flow? If yes I stay in Canada for a while, if no, stay with my kids and step sons and grand kids for a while before I flying back to Mexico and wait for them to visit me for seasonal winter hollidays
Since I started my body and mind has been working together my words and thought processing started going hand in hand its like... now that I've found it I cannot stop it cause if I do within a week and a half I feel the effects where my speech becomes a bit more messy I feel more depleted but when I do consume mct in my morning cup of tea sometimes coffee it just.... lights me up makes me feel like a new person I do not recommend it to anyone because once you start you cannot stop because if you do you will feel the after effect but overall it makes me feel amazing its like a new found dopamine like a new found cocaine....

There should be a law where all money has to be given back to the customer if something turns out useless afterwards.
I am 64 years old and I was my own study (Guinea pig) for four months and can definitely confirm that mct oil does not help for me. All it did was raise my total blood cholesterol count through the roof.
I've used MCT oil for over a year now in conjunction with a Carnivore way of eating. Love it! The Carnivore way of eating ([high power elimination diet] high protein/super low or no carbs) produces all of the benefits described in this video and much, much more! Too many benefits to even list in this comment. I typically use MCT oil after a few days of cheating with carbs to kick my metabolism back into high gear. The MCT oil seems to power me back into ketosis very quickly! When I'm not cheating, I typically use it maybe once a week simply to promote superior digestion. MCT oil definitely works for that for sure😃

MCT is so expensive. I'd rather buy food for my household. I cook and put a bit of coconut oil in my coffee and tea. This gives me some MCT without the expense!
Instead of focusing on MCT, which has not been proven, as the video states, it would be good to focus on omega-3‘s instead. Coconut oil has more than 90% saturated fat, which has long-term potential for damage. Good luck in your journey and much love to you!
@@TheBrainDocs that's disingenuous, its like saying don't eat bananas due to potassium overdose, nobody is deep frying their food in cocunut oil so the amount they'd interest for any proposed benifits would be no more than a few spoonfuls at most in a entiree day and usually even just 1 so that would be negligible.

@SuperMajinMaj just from self experience. I drunk it about 3 times evwrytine had the same experience. I still got basically a full bottle in my cupboard. I don't dare try it again as my stomach will be in agony

Dont listen to her *lies*
:who is we?
Call me crazy but I've started to trust the medical community less and less since 2020...
When joined with fasting it improves mental clarity
I can see a case for a wee bit of the long chain fats like EPA and DHA
We wrote two comprehensive reviews, which were published last year on the importance of Omega 3s for the brain. journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/15598276221116052?casa_token=P_KZLXVKwtcAAAAA:BZvsvDIDEA3O666t9iE1KjLaszOC99-gqE2pVPtj03GRd63WcARTKFC7s8CQ8SUhrNDeHi0wS2yqzOQ

You prepared your content with very narrow thinking aiming criticizing others. You must have visited larger area with coconut and where there's no coconut and come up with conclusion
mct oil has no profit like those drugs sold by big pharma😂
This video should be titled “MCT Oil Studies: we ain’t done nothin’ and we’re all through tryin’”
Tired of these clowns playing “doctor”
Thank you for clarity!😊👍
Im taking it
Please challenge the claim that the keto diet is a legitimate way to manage MS. (Oklahoma study?)
We did a podcast on the subject and the video will be uploaded on UA-cam soon.
Thanks.
MCT is a specific strain of coconut oil.
You don't even break down which MCT is it is it number eight number 10 number 12 well number 8 is the one that works so he sound like you don't have very much information so I don't take MCTOL but I don't see where you bring any evidence either way
Wow, prior to watching this video I did not know of MCT oil. Something new to study and explore! Let's hope the lipid does not suffer the same fate trans fats. Thank you. We love consuming the brain health information you put out.
It’s our pleasure.
you can say whatever you want I made a fast just drinking coffee and ct and taking vitamins and electrolytes and lost 50 ounds in 3 months, and my blood test go PERFECT... what it really doesn´t work is the horrible boring diets Public health doctors recomend.
Thank you for the update. Always solid!
Much love!
not for me MCT, but coco oil is very good
I must say that MCT oils may have let me enter into a Left Ventricular Hypertrophy
What a biased response... I found it extremely efficient and helping with concentration and focus. It's literally a fuel for the brain, though it's natural so will not yield profit for big pharma hence the doctor's stance... You should mention who sponsored the studies, cause money has to come from somebody and big pharma sponsoring it and supporting its benefits would be like a shot in their foot. A friend of a friend works in big pharma and said any potential new drug that will not yield profits of approx. a few billion, will be dismissed...
Since it is only for 20 people and not a year’s worth I would say much more research needed to be done determine either way.

@SuperMajinMaj just from self experience. I drunk it about 3 times evwrytine had the same experience. I still got basically a full bottle in my cupboard. I don't dare try it again as my stomach will be in agony

Obviously, you're neurologists, but it may bear mentioning that there seems to be a link between MCT oil and, uh, bowel issues, if you follow posts on "keto" and similar groups, where putting this stuff into everything is super popular. Eek. Thanks for all you do!

I use it and it works…….essential part of my day
I am interested. What do you mean with it works? For feeling good or getting higher values on a keto meter or something else? How big difference does it make?
