The X system on nodes is to give farming a true penalty, that it's not so easy to farm when you have to look out for any threat. If you're just on the lookout constantly, farming would be so easy it would just feel like a pain in the ass to do it, this way you can at least enjoy the feeling having successly farmed and survived and got home
