Skis are meant to pop off easily in event of a wreck or accident. So, likely he clanged his feet together or used 1 foot to stomp on the other foot to cause them to fall. It would've been disastrous, imo, if he tried to land on the net 🥅 w\them bc they could've gotten tangled up in there or even if they popped off as supposed to his body could hit the very hard bindings. So, while there's no way to know for sure w\o the whole video, that's what he did. It seems less likely that he could've pulled his leg up to release 1 handed & Doubtful the Dad could do it while remaining holding him. & Equally doubtful the other passenger could've reached. The only other way that might have worked is somebody getting on the chair that's used for emergency lift evac. I worked at a ski resort several yrs & even tho Im NOT a skier or boarder, we all had to learn the chair evacs. Basically using a pulley system by throwing a rope attached to an emergency chair (basically like a plank or swing to pic what I mean) & it's anchored by 1 person & another used to guide. You scoot out off the lift & onto the plank\swing & lowered to the ground. But it takes time to get & set up. & If they HAD that there then it would make more Sense to pull it up to him or even somebody ride it up & grab hold of him to lower. So, just seems likely he kicked them off. So, I said I'm not a skier or boarder, however my hubby was & worked at the same ski resort as a teenager back when we were dating. So, he took me once & It was an EPIC failure on my part. But I DID learn the importance of knowing your weight! I see myself as bigger than I am even when I was skinny. So, I overestimated my weight thinking if I under bid it then I'd break the skis. But that's not the reason they ask the weight. They calibrate the skis so they will pop off when you crash or tumble so your legs don't get twisted & broken. So, when I ended up cartwheeling down the steep slope headed straight for the expert course, I got knee all f*cked up & sprained bc it twisted when I tumbled bc they were made to w\stand more of a jolt due to my overstating my body weight! OUCH!

At least that ended well. This happened to my sister at exactly that age too. For all those asking "how do you get in that situation", back then (think over 25 years ago) those lifts would actually hit you at their full, actual running speed, so a small child would have to be helped on by a grown-up person, or the controller would have to slow down the entire line (or even shut it down) completely. So that time the controller didn't slow it down and as she got on, she was still on the edge of the seat and as she tried to wiggle herself backwards she immediately slipped forward due to the angle of the lift (which tends to swing after it "hits" people). That was when my father made his own big mistake and tried to bring her back up, which is basically impossible, so she was left hanging for a while just like the kid in this video. The controller NEVER noticed (a guy in his 60s, 1-2 years away from retirement) and never stopped the line, so basically after a point nothing could be done by anyone! She hang on for about as far along the ride as this kid, so she was over 6 meters (20 feet) high above rock-hard early morning icy snow. And then.... her hands slipped out of her gloves. I am just a couple of years older than her, this was a huge shock to me. At first I was worried she had died, because she wasn't moving, then they told me she'd broken her leg, at which time I thought she wouldn't walk again... Anyway the consequences were far worse for her than for myself, this DID actually cause her never to ski again (and she was doing great up to that point!) her leg didn't heal properly and had to put in a casket a 2nd time after a few months and my very athletic sister went down a spiral of basically zero activity for over a year and gaining far too much weight, which stayed with her ever since (and has unfortunately gotten much worse). Could this have been another "miracle recovery" story? Probably so, but this is to let you know, not everything works out fine for everyone all the time. True story, unfortunately. :(
Sorry for that George... Only stupid people can think that is impossible to happen: we have always to be very careful with those machines. Let's see the positive aspect, and it wasn't given she would survive. About the weight....i don't agree... I can understand the first period, but let's not blame the accident for ever: all of us are responsible for ourselves
They put her leg in a cast or casket? Cuz u said casket. Either way, that sux and I'm sorry it happened. For every intelligent design or fine tune argument they leave out a the bad things that happen. Things just happen. Good things and bad. Consistent and inconsistent.
It's tough. However you mentioned that things not always go well like in the video and to be honest you missed that things can go even worse. She could have hit his head a rock and end up either with irreversible brain damage or just dead.

Yes, we all “should” help one another, but many stop short of doing so, for reasons unbeknownst to everyone maybe even themselves. Don’t steal the sunshine away from those graced with the ability to be first to help in an apparent emergency.
Get help if that causes you to cry. You're mentally unstable.
We ALL have an obligation to help, but they are heroes no doubt about it. Amazing work and quick thinking.
@@-sensibleChris ya some people are cowards. Doesn't it cross one's mind that it could be themselves that is in the bad situation and in need of help when they turn the other way. Kudos to the heroes in this video I was mostly just reacting to the commenter that thought they had no obligation to help. Somebody hit the nail on the head when they said we all aren't cut from the same cloth. I just hope that if I ever need assistance that the people whom are in the vicinity are people who are cut from the same cloth as me and not that other cloth like a certain somebody in this comment thread or I'm in serious trouble. The problem with those lifts is, that the protection bar is one for all. Dad is bigger than his son, so the bar didn't protect the son but leaves a gap where he obviously slipped through. It can happen so fast, as the lift is jerking from time to time very rough..

My mom had one arm, my dad the other and I was hanging there as the chairlift kept going and going until other passengers got the attention of the lift operator. That was the least they could have done. Putting your hope in humanity is a foolish gambit.
I'd given up hope for our youth. But a random YT video and it's all restored.
Dad, his son and quick thinking guys. God bless them.
These young men definitely deserve an award for this.
Definitely, and they looked really young, too.. like maybe 10-13 y.o just like the boy.. very brave and courageous boys 👍
Lifetime season passes
They should be awarded the medal of honor for that 13’ drop into the snow. 🙄
What’s up with you idiots and pointless awards?
I know! he could have had a sprained ankle!
This was amazing to see!
Those kids deserve a reward for their quick thinking!
That's what I'm talking about human kindness at its best!!!
Wow im so relieved the boy made it to safety. Everyone that helped to make it happen is truly Amazing!! ❤ No broken bones! Absolutely turned out Amazing!
Good kids right there. Resourceful and smart. And their happiness of having succeeded at the end is just pure joy!
Absolutely brilliant, was afraid to look, what a lovely crowd of young people, they should be very proud ❤
This was indeed a gorgeous display of some younger people problem solving and quickly thinking to help a stranger. Kudos!
I’m proud of every young person involved in saving that young man from serious injury. So, we have witnessed that humanity still exists within our race. It was a miracle they were there. Did notice not one adult stepped up? I’m grateful to God for those teens being there.
First time I ever went snowboarding some random guy taught me and actually stayed for me to go off on my own. The people on the mountains are most of the time most polite and courteous.
"...And that was the first time I got molested"
That is one weak man. This is why it is not Ok to stay weak. Get strong!
Facts it’s like a huge family out there
@@Khabasalainganba He had another child sitting right next to him and maybe he had an injury? Or it was just too difficult from that angle? It's weak of you to assume that guy's weak
God bless all of them for their quick thinking and willingness to help.
Those clever teens. How great that is to see that there are beautiful people out there that will help their fellow neighbors in a heartbeat!
I know the guy who though of the idea! This is at grouse mountain resort, the kid was not on the chair correctly, the lifty did not see or hear them. So it kept going up and the kid slid down to that position. Then people told the lifty.
They vandalised the fencing. 😮
@@Zerpentsa6598 saved a kid. Plus it’s just pulling the poles out. I’ve set up fences like that before, nothing special but a hole in the snow
That's what we need to see every where from all people to help others. Fantastic kids
Good for everyone. What a team effort. So sad seeing someone in a helpless situation. The desperation for help is so real. This has calmed my anxiety for that dad and boy
WOW😳 what quick thinking and ingenuity, hard to imagine! Bless you ❤
I remember back in the 1980s, we would jump off the lift when it would stop for a long time, not wanting to sit up there for a long time
true
that all depends on the terrain right below you and how far the jump is. you don't want to jump down onto very flat ground but jumping down on terrain with a decent slope will not create severe injury.
Yea and in the 80s there was large snow pack everywhere. Now most resorts are happy just to have enough snow on each trail to stay open…
Oh the wonderful’80’s! Jumping off rooftops, no seatbelts, no pads or helmets. No wonder I’m aching all the time!😂
Was just thinking this. Late 80s early 90s did it all the time.
this is what happens when you don't panick and have presence of mind. it goes a long way both to the rescuee and the rescuers
well said bro
I just noticed the little girl being smooshed under the dad! She deserves props too!!
These boys were raised right. Helping others in need.
Part of video is missing...he was hanging with skis on, but fell without skis...it seems while hanging, he let go skis... incredible!
These things can jump .it's not always a smooth ride.ski pants can be slippery and the fact he has heavy ski boots weighing him down wouldn't help
OUCH!
We don't know how long this all took to play out, but it warms my heart to see the people on the ground self organizing and just getting the job done.
I was surprised at how much the sling they made for him broke his fall. He had some serious momentum & weight going on by the time he hit it
That had to be the hardest thing for a parent to do. Big kudos to the group who helped.
No, it wldnt. Don't understand how he cldnt lift him up. I'm a woman and i cld lift an 8yo with skis on up by his wrists/hands/arms
@@ceeejay9112 exactly what I was thinking, this person really needs to fix themself
@@ceeejay9112 the dad is holding another child on his lap you clown
@@Marinaddee that child cld be passed to the other person on the lift tho right.......and name calling goes nowhere, I've got a tiny screen and can't see stuff all
Like why is the other person not taking that other kid from the dad???
Effing get in there lads!!! Absolute heroes. I hope life treats them all insanely well as they deserve it. Phenomenal job!!! ❤
Thank you to the incredible ppl who saved this boy, God my heart dropped when he left go of dad's hand, and I bawled dad was amazing and stayed calm, and that boy was brave beyond belief
These young men are real heros grabbing what they could to break the child's far. God Bless them all.
That was the sweetest thing I've seen today.
Omgosh, Thank you Yeshua for these ppl who saved this youngin. "Sra Isa"
Made me cry forsure man… all kids too and didn’t panic kept him calm and created a fall device like damnnn
Sad story for your family. It is true that a serious injury can change the trajectory of your life. I've seen it happen.
Sorry to hear that :( That’s unfortunate and must have caused a lot of trauma. I hope she can heal from it..
ABSOLUTE STUDS!!! So proud of everyone involved! It warms my heart to see people taking care of and worrying about complete strangers. There's still hope for us with people like that out there. I pray I'm one of them🙏
