Crona Gorgon from Soul Eater is a good topic for how abuse can shape gender expression, seeing as their mother forced them to dress a certain way that looks feminine, if you're still looking for material. Also being treated as gender-neutral in the original work creates the common effect of them being misgendered in translations, creating divides over how they themselves and their interactions should be perceived due to the binary gender they're given. Gren from Cowboy Bebop also presents an interesting conversation for viewers that I don't see talked about very much. Gren presents masculine with long hair and some sharp features with soft edges. There's really no question about how Gren presents or is perceived, but rather the way he talks about his state of being once main character Faye sees he has both breasts and (presumably because they don't show it) a penis. He was experimented on while in prison and now has some female characteristics, but refers to it as being "both". He never verbally differentiates his gender from his sex, rather speaking of his body as him. Faye stops seeing him as alluring after seeing him in full. He also uses these features to trick enemies by dressing as a woman they're looking for to get close to them. Unfortunately, Gren is often talked about by fans in a completely wrong light because of his condition. People believe he's transgender, a cross-dresser, or that he's actually a woman and thus must be straight for being attracted to men. It's pretty bad

I would love to hear your take about Shiki in Kara no Kyoukai, Who I would say shares some Similarities to Alluka when it comes to gender and identity.
If she can grant any wish and she wants to be a girl and killua knows she’s a girl the most posible scenario is that she granted that wish for her self
Nice video :) There was always one thing that confused me about Alluka gender identity that, even after watching a few videos about it. There is a scene in an airship while Killua is on his way to Gon. In that very scene he calls Morel on his phone and tells him about Alluka and her healing-powers. Now, since Killua always refers to Alluka as his sister, it would only make sense that he would introduce her as such to Morel (or Leorio, I'm not completely sure anymore). But despite that Morel and everyone else who only knows about Alluka thanks to Killua still refers to her as male. So yeah, this just always confused me. I've always interpret the way everyone calls her a male except for Killua the same way you display in this video, but then that scene wouldn't make any sense. Do you, or anyone else who's reading the comments, know anything about this? Or do you have any idea how this is supposed to be interpret? Also, I'm not sure if this was in both the Anime and Manga, since I've read/watched both. If it's just in one version that'd be odd too tho :D
Tublerone I read that scene as Killua just picking his battles and deciding it wasn't worth the time to get into that whole matter when there were so many other things to deal with. That's just me though.

Damn you were on point 5 years ago. Great analysis. I’m trans and didn’t notice that the first time I watched HXH years ago. Time to go back and revisit.
I also see Alluka/Nanika as a representation of being neurodivergent. The way her family and others who aren’t Killua always used her to attain their own selfish desires while labeling her as the monster kinda reflects how neurodivergent people are often manipulated and taken advantage of by neurotypical people. There’s also the fact that Alluka’s family immediately separate her from the others due to her operating differently from them, and never trying to at least understand her like Killua does
I think alluka is a girl because they say the Zoldyck family has never given birth to a female and they also say that Alluka is not a true Zoldyck (I didnt watch the video cus i saw the comments so im not sure if it was already said in the video)
Nah, Alluka is a true Zoldyck but the being they referred came from somewhere else is Nanika (Something) that can grant wishes, you should read the Dark continent arc in Hxh manga to understand where Nanika came from. She was born as a biological male according to the HXH Databook but identifies herself as a girl. Killua is the only one in the family who respected and care for her that's why he refers Alluka as a girl . The Zoldyck however doesn't care about her aside from her granting wish power and they always call her with male pronouns because she was born as a male.

I'm guessing the answer is no to all or most of that. You just skim read an article or heard that there's some 'science' and took it as fact. wake. up.
3:27 That perspective would be fine and dandy if not for the fact that Nanika... well, DOES brutally murder people for essentially no real reason. It's very much an inhuman thing to do, and makes Nanika objectively dangerous, which makes the situation much different from that of people who just don't accept other genders. A trans person isn't a borderline monster who can accidentally murder people, however Nanika is that. Sure, it can be understood which helps the situation somewhat, but the issue, the big danger is still there.
Killua pretty much states that when nanika is fulfilling selfless wishes there is not a penalty, this implies it’s something about those making the wishes dark or greedy intentions that activate the penalty, nothing really to do with nanika aside from the fact the she is the one being used, if anything you could probably look at like ppl who have a problem with trans ppl typically have dark shit they need to work on and the root of the problem is their shit not the the trans person

@The one and only I'm not familiar with that character honestly

at the start I thought kurapika was a girl, after they called him a he, I was confused. During the start I kept going back and forth
I would love to hear your take about Shiki in Kara no Kyoukai, Who I would say shares some Similarities to Alluka when it comes to gender and identity.
If she can grant any wish and she wants to be a girl and killua knows she’s a girl the most posible scenario is that she granted that wish for her self
she doesn't have to wish to be a girl, she's already a girl ig
I noticed it too in the anime. I was so confused. I thought maybe the VA (voice actor) had made a mistake.

so... she is just trans? is that it?
Pretty much yeah, but the social implications of how her identity is either affirmed or ignored by those around her is interesting to study.
The way the story of the Election arc flies past the vast majority of the fans' heads is so sad. This is a great breakdown of it though.
Amazing breakdown
This is a great video and I will definitely recommend it to people who want to know more about my best girl lol
Such an awesome video
Damn you were on point 5 years ago. Great analysis. I’m trans and didn’t notice that the first time I watched HXH years ago. Time to go back and revisit.
"-is terrifying & inhuman, something that needs to be contained & locked away"
*the water is turning the frogs gay*
Do you recommend the HxH manga?
Yes.
Bro this confused me so fucking much I thought someone fucked up the subtitles
I also see Alluka/Nanika as a representation of being neurodivergent. The way her family and others who aren’t Killua always used her to attain their own selfish desires while labeling her as the monster kinda reflects how neurodivergent people are often manipulated and taken advantage of by neurotypical people. There’s also the fact that Alluka’s family immediately separate her from the others due to her operating differently from them, and never trying to at least understand her like Killua does
I think alluka is a girl because they say the Zoldyck family has never given birth to a female and they also say that Alluka is not a true Zoldyck
(I didnt watch the video cus i saw the comments so im not sure if it was already said in the video)
Could you read the manga Boys Run The Roit and do an analysis video on it? Its about a young transgender man ftm in High school in Japan who comes to terms with his indenity through a friend who dose fashion. Its honestly a beautiful story I highly recommend
Pretty cool explanation didnt think about it as a counter culture kind of thing

totally missed it when watching the series :/
This part of hxh is really unappreciated 😔
Why do Killua from hunter x hunter and Gintoki from gin tama have such similar hair?
When I watch the show alluka is a girl her family says she a boy but killua is only one who she a girl
Alluka is older than Kalluto. Kalluto is the youngest
Wasn’t Kalluto younger tho.....no ones cares anyways

Nanika is a Dark Continent Creature.
yeh maybe cus that gaz (I) could be nanika they look the same at least so yeh u kinda right

Me too

*youngest
True, my mistake
I
Its fine lol
Finally got this figured out I was tired of hearing both throughout the anime I felt it was a boy but thought they kept making mistakes or something not only that I’m pretty sure nanika is a boy spirit and alluka is a girl so technically two different people inside the same body which is why she asked killua to be nice to nanika too rather then being trans it would make sense why the family calls her/him both
Nanika is the female one, while Alluka is biologically a male.

Maybe they're talking about the calamity When they say it's a guy, maybe it's a male calamity.
They see Alluka and Nanika as one person, they don't make the distinction, so that is ruled out.
@@ultimatedespairgamer6722 No amount of "dark or greedy" intentions is enough to justify murder on the spot. Nanika is still a dangerous monster.
