There were times when Roethisberger would act like he was hurt when he wasn't. He'd be limping like crazy and then when the defense didn't put a spy on him, he'd take off running. Funny how his limp magically disappeared. If Pitt. won with injured Ben, their fans would crow about how tough he was. If Pitt. lost, it was a built-in excuse for why and then their fans would be like, "Look how courageous he was trying to help the team, despite being hurt." Heinz Ward isn’t very bright and he was a dirty player. To call Ben Roethlisberger, “soft,” is just stupid. There aren’t many tougher than Ben, including Ward. Ben probably laughed and shook his head.
I know this is not literally true. But to me Ben Roethlisberger is the biggest human being I have ever seen on a football field. He was just big. To me he just looks so much bigger than everybody else and the way guys bounce off of him when they tried to bring him down kind of reinforced that with me.
As a Ravens fan, I can tell you without a doubt Ben is the toughest QB NFL history. He had to play against a great Ravens Defense for a decade plus. I have seen it all from Ngata breaking Ben's nose or Bart Scott laying him out. I never once thought Ben was a wussy.

Its funny because when Ben was winning the Steelers superbowls every 2-3 years (05-08) he and Ward were thick as theives. Every piece of highlight footage is of those two hugging and celebrating like excited schoolgirls on the sidelines... then the guy gets hurt and Ward takes a low-shot at him, not cool. Unlike Ward, Ben retired a Steeler because he WANTED to, Ward just couldn't get anyone to make an offer so he hung up the cleats. I think that was kind of lame. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Ward, he is Pittsburgh royalty around these parts, but I was really upset with him for this. Ben was still YOUNG and in his prime at this point. No reason to risk putting him in a terrible place with another 10 years left in his tank. I think Ward was seeing that his time was short and wanted another SB run before he retired. So it was kind of selfish. Even though Ben would deliver ANOTHER SuperBowl appearance for the Steelers after the 2010 season. His 3rd in a total of 5 seasons.

In the mid 90's I could have been paralyzed or dead in HS because I never let my coaches, mom or anyone know that I had a bulging disc in my neck. My solution was to suck it up wear a big neck roll and keep playing. Hines Ward is definitely from that skool from back then when people would have looked at what Ben did as being Soft . I don't blame Hines Ward And if anything make management make a choice It was either Hines or Big Ben that needs to go Plus,Big Ben was old and his skills declining
I’ll flat out say this. I have a lot of respect for Hines Ward. The guy alongside Steve Smith were two of the toughest wide receivers I’ve seen play the game. I have a lot of respect for Big Ben as a football player, but I don’t respect him one bit as a person. However, I completely disagree with Hines here. It would be one thing if Big Ben had a nagging injury, but this is a concussion we’re talking about here. You don’t mess with concussions and perhaps knowing what we know now with CTE, it’s possible Hines may have done a complete 180 if he knew just how badly CTE messes up your brain. You just don’t take any chances with concussions. Ever. I think all he would need to do is take a look at how his former teammate Antonio Brown turned out…but then again, AB had issues even before the concussions/Burfict hit. All-in-all, this was a really stupid take by Hines. I get it, he let his emotions get the better him and the Steelers coaching staff/medical personnel handled this about as poorly as they could possibly could have. However, as my mom used to say, if you’re afraid people will think you’re an idiot, you can either keep your mouth shut and let them to come to their own conclusions or open your mouth and prove them right. Hines chose the latter and we see what it got him.

He'd be limping like crazy and then when the defense didn't put a spy on him, he'd take off running.
Funny how his limp magically disappeared.
If Pitt. won with injured Ben, their fans would crow about how tough he was.
If Pitt. lost, it was a built-in excuse for why and then their fans would be like, "Look how courageous he was trying to help the team, despite being hurt."
You never knew for sure if he was really hurt or if he was trying to fake out the defense.
Homer fans spun the results to put him and the team in the best light.
Kind of, like, how, they turned him into a victim when he was really just a predator, he clearly had no plan for life after football, that explains why he stayed too long, the next several years will, not, be pretty, period.

I wonder if Hines Ward and Ben Roethlisberger ever *REALLY* made up (beyond just Ward's "apology").
5:45-big time ouch for Billy Cundiff fans. I still remember that miss as it put the Pats in the Super Bowl..then watched Lawrence Tynes show how it's done as the G Men downed the Niners to be the NFC representative in XLVI.
Yeah, and, fortunately, they later beat the Patriots in the SB, the Ravens would get, their kicker, their revenge, and, their SB, the season after, terrific.
Heinz Ward isn’t very bright and he was a dirty player. To call Ben Roethlisberger, “soft,” is just stupid. There aren’t many tougher than Ben, including Ward. Ben probably laughed and shook his head.
I wonder what Hines Ward thought of Kordell Stewart
I know this is not literally true. But to me Ben Roethlisberger is the biggest human being I have ever seen on a football field. He was just big. To me he just looks so much bigger than everybody else and the way guys bounce off of him when they tried to bring him down kind of reinforced that with me.
Urinating Tree might disagree with the Big Ben description. He does refer to him as Captain Fat F*ck 😂
LEADER OF MEN
He DOES look rather bloated in this video to be fair.
Man that Steelers 2009 season was a weird one. 8 straight games giving up a return touchdown and some really bad losses. And yet they still had a shot at the playoffs.
That was, also, the first of two straight years where the best team was clearly the Patriots, yet, somehow, they didn't even reach the AFC Championship Game, how, incredibly bizarre.
Yes they got handled by the Ravens and the Jets.

Naw you can't question Ben's toughness.
How did Mike Tomlin not let every player know that he was the one who didn't let Ben play. It doesn't make sense they ward didn't know this. That's a big mis communication is you ask me. Why wouldn't Ben tell ward that coach Tomlin said no and it wasn't up to him. Doesn't make sense to me.
As a UGA fan, I'm predisposed to favor Hines Ward, but he MORE than cancelled that out with his multitudinous cheap shots and history of despicably dirty play. The man is an @$$h013, and this video is just more confirmation of that.
Rule change, prosecution rests.
Hines was just on a different level the man would trash talk ray lewis for god’s sake

Wines Hard calling Ben soft?
I get the feeling that were Ben black Hines wouldn't have said jack.
His 3rd in a total of 5 seasons.
we got a meme here in pittsburgh of ben laying on the field and 2 other steelers standing over him saying "ben, ben, come on, get up, that was just the coin toss." hines is loved by everybody in pittsburgh while ben is hated by half. big ben is a clown.

He was right about the 2010 suspension BTW, but I can't help but wonder how he feels about Deshaun Watson.
The, "suspension," was a bad joke, he should have been suspended for the entire season, and, cut, immediately following, but, the NFLPA, would never allow that, and, The, Rooney Family, didn't want him going to a rival, throughout that SB, the thought of him doing talk shows, over the Summer, while, promoting, "The, Redemption Tour," made me physically ill, luckily, the Packers prevented such a disaster, Deshaun Watson will take cues, claiming to be a victim, while, behaving, completely, otherwise.

Got nothin' but love for #86, but this ain't the 1st time he's thrown Ben under the bus...AND, HE GAVE BB#7 A HARD TIME FOR HIM THROWIN' TEAMMATES UNDER THE BUS!! Sometimes you have to play smarter, not harder. Suppose BB#7 started & then suffered another concussion since they WERE PLAYIN' B-MORE. His season, possibly CAREER could've been ended. C'mon now Hines. Pgh loves you, but that was grimy.
To Hines Ward's defense ! U already gotta be ah lil nuts to even play football and yes some football players from HS, College,or NFL don't tell the coaches or the sports medicine people that you're hurt or injured, just to make sure ur on the field . Their thing was then ,if u can walk and u suited up ! u can play ..
I don't blame Hines Ward
And if anything make management make a choice
It was either Hines or Big Ben that needs to go
Plus,Big Ben was old and his skills declining
I got to give Hines Ward this L for this one. Sorry.
This is a player who got rules changed because of vicious hits, expecting him to say the right thing is unrealistic, however, considering the target of his vitriol was Ben Roethlisberger, this is one of those times when I can't root for, either, side.
@@matthewdaley746 Look, I hate Ben Roethlisberger as much as the next guy, but I don’t wish anything as atrocious as CTE upon him or any football player for that matter. While I am not looking to give Big Ben an escape route for his poor off-field decisions, who knows? Maybe CTE played a factor in some of those decisions (although, I’m more willing to believe he’s just an awful person).
