I know a couple fellow USCF 2000 expert class players that not only beat me more than half the time (I am active in tournaments), but also beat the couple active IM players in our club at blitz all the time. They just both started classes and haven’t been playing many tournaments, as chess isn’t a big priority at this time. They are both much stronger than their ratings, one especially so. It’s just easier for them to play some chess online when they get a chance. I dunno their online ratings, however. My point is- this is definitely realistic. This player seems to me like he’s around 2200-2300 strength otb and plays a lot online but doesn’t pursue chess at the tournament level- which is a shame.
