The look on Huston’s face truly shows how much the pond means to him. It breaks my heart
😢😢😢😢
Houston you look 😢so sad. So sorry
He'll grow out of it, we've all had to adjust from our childhood memories!
@@19Photographer76 You haven't been watching much have you? That is Houston's whole life. And the look of devastation on his face, he will remember this for the rest of his life.
So sorry guys after all the time you've put into the pond, hopefully it's only a lack of oxygen not something more serious
Take a water sample. Have it checked out.
I totally agree, testing the water first before doing anything else is a must.
@@wendymurphy2906 well aeration would never present a problem, so beyond aeration I totally agree.
So very sorry for your pond problems. Hope you can solve the issue quickly. Hang in there Houston I know this is tough!
I totally agree with you.
Please be careful with the dogs swimming and drinking this water. It can make them very sick or die in a matter of hours.
Im so sorry about the fish and your pond.
Lost a dog to that
Good comment. They need to have the water checked and diagnosed.. Hated to see that, fun watching then catch fish from that pond. But guess what? Daniel is no quitter. It will end up being better than ever!
So sorry guys 😢😢😢 praying y’all find out what happened and get it corrected and growing back stronger better than before.
Just dropping by to share the same warning. Keep the pups AWAY from that pond. ☣️🥵☠️⚠️
Poor Houston he’s heartbroken.
The look on Houston's face made me a little sad. But you made me smile by spending time with Houston.
This happened to my dads pond( It turned over). All his catfish died. We told him he needs to aerate it. So sorry for you guys😔
yep
Yeah most the time not all die tho but sometimes they do this happens to my uncles pond and when we drains it 17 lived of the 500 we put in there
You're going to have to aerate the water. You can put up a wind mill paddle system that will stir the water enough, but you may do better to use a commercial system. Most of your catfish and bottom fish may make it through. But aeration in the summer and fall is absolutely necessary if there is NO WIND.
Oh no!
Windmill perfect.
This pond is decades old and fed by a stream. Why is this the first time it happened?
So sorry for this destruction! Did something wash down the stream to the pond? I know your heat has been dreadful, but this is severe!
@@marciasanderlin7924 It's HYPOXIA... hot water holds less oxygen than cold water. If a lake is still, and the wind doesn't blow and agitate the water adding oxygen, then those fish that can't tolerate lower oxygen or the lack of O2 will die first. When they die, they usually rot, and that causes anaerobic bacteria to flourish, lowering the O2 level even more and making the whole pond die out. Dan may have to start all over.
Need a windmill and a water fountain to keep that water moving, or just pump water into the pond from the creek to allow cooler water to come in
If you start over there are a lot of changes that you should make to your pond.
Make your pond a lot deeper so it stays cooler.
And a bunch of aquatic plants for oxygen, along with a wind mill with pipes that pump oxygen into the water.
Clean cut an area so the pond can receive more wind.
Make a schedule for testing the pH and fertilize if necessary.
Good advise
Before you eat anything out of the pond at this point, get some tests done. Get to the bottom first so you don’t get sick or infect others fish populations.
This is what I think everytime I see a shallow flat pond being built.
OMGosh, I am so sad for what has happened! It breaks my heart especially for Houston. You both loved catching and releasing in your pond. Hugs to you both! 🤗🙏🙌🥹
As a ichthyologist but not studying North American fish I would put your problem down to a mix of the controlled burn you did earlier and the tornado then heat and just bad luck. The ash ect from the burn then the rain lining the base of the bottom of the pond and then that not letting the weeds grow as much if at all and then that not giving off the oxergen into the water. What I would do is punch a hole in the dam dry it out and start again if you haven't had to aerate the pond before then I doutb it was just that
We had it happen three times to our pond, and we were told to get an areogater, so we got it on Amazon and installed it without draining our pond. So far, so good. Believe when I say it makes you sick.
@@juliepippin8710what size and kind of aerator? Solar?
Bro is a what ? And he can't spell oxygen ? Lmao 😂 yea trust him 🤣
I’m so sorry about all the fish that have died. Could tell how devastated you and Houston are.
Really sorry for you guys. Houston is so sweet trying to figure out how to save the fish. I wish I could give him a big hug.
I’m so sorry. Y’all have worked so hard to stock it and enjoy it. I hope you find the cause and a solution. Test the water.
I use pond champs blue pond dye off Amazon in my 3 acre pond. 4 gallons does my pond and it’s 115.00 bucks. Keeps my pond nice and cool keeps sunlight from getting through to the bottom. I dunno if you have a running pond or not mine does not constantly run but that’s what I use and it works.
Stoney Ridge farm Josh uses that stuff and likes it works well.
So sorry for your loss of your pond and the fish. 😢😢😢
It is a running pond and its like 50 years old. Just some bad luck and it turned over. Could spend thousands on pumps or just move on. Maybe add some beneficial bacteria to remove some sludge
Sorry for your loss of fish!! I know how much the pond means to all of you 😢😢
If you go to Life Uncontained this couple in Texas put a solar powered araeter in their pond. I would not have believed the results if i had not seen this. That episode is called, "Building our off-grid oasis. Finishing the pond aeration". The before and after pics are pretty amazing.
I’m completely amazed that your dogs have not rolled on dead stinky fish. I am truly sorry for the loss and hope you can find a solution. Hope you teach the kids how to water ski and wakeboard!
Gracious, that’s exactly what I was thinking lol.
I was waiting for it to.
I was too...
Ahhhh so sorry Daniel I pray you can get it sorted ❤❤❤❤
Houston quivering voice hurts my heart. I had a friend whose pond did the same last summer. He’s a die hard fisherman and it was mad, sad, and had to restock his entire pond.
Old system is 2 windmills connected by a rope across a pond. Rope goes in and out the water acts as a aerator. It was used by certain areas up to over a thousand years ago.
OH MY GOSH! This is truly heartbreaking! My heart goes out to you both. I will pray that you find out what is killing them.
So glad you went to the lake, it sure was pretty out there, til the storm came in. But the storm is gonna bring much need relief for your pond and fish. God bless.🙏🏼❤️
Makes me feel like crying, that’s just the way I am. So sorry for the best fishing buddies around anywhere. You guys will figure it out. God bless ,
Get you a pump and pump water 🌊 from the creek into the pond with a generator. It'll aerate the pond as well as drop the water temperature, maybe that'll save what fish you have left still holding on.
I am so sorry, this pond ment so much to your channel , can’t wait to see how u rebuild it
Look on Houston’s face made me cry , kid is a good ambassador to your channel
I am so, so sorry about your pond. I know nothing about keeping fish alive, but I know how much you and Huston love to 🐟. I hope you find out what happened. 😮😮😮
Sorry to hear this. Sad to see it happen. Almost scary to see that kind of die off. 😢
Oh Mylanta , the lil boo boo lip Huston made talkin about catching all the fishies to putting in the creek to save them made me tear up. I love his sweet lil heart .
God Bless y'all 💯 ❤ 🙏 🇺🇲
14:18 😢😢.. My heart is breaking for Houston ,, hes heartbroken..
You got me kiddo. 😢😢
That is really heartbreaking, those were some good bass! I'd have to do a walk around and see if something has been introduced through the inflow. Another suggestion would be solar pumps with sprinkler heads, Oklahoma gets plenty of sunlight to power them. Several small ones could possibly work better than 1 or 2 large pumps. They will cool and oxygenate the water. I hope whatever you decide to try workswell. As a fisherman, this stings! Ouch!!!
Edit: Possible quik fix here. Back the new boat into the water far enough to get the prop in the water good. Crank er up and let it rip with the trim up so that it's spraying a big roostertail. You'll have tons of oxygen in the water fast, cool it down and get it moving around all at the same time.
They make an Solor power aerator. For ponds!!
That's a great idea.
He mentioned in the video he has looked into it and it is cery very expensive
@@amandaharris6639it ain’t as expensive as what They’ve lost and will happen again if He doesn’t do something about it. Sad day on the Arms farm.
Need to test the water .. I know excessive floods were a couple of months ago, but depending where all that water came from could have had some hazardous waste or chemicals in it
The larger fish would take longer to succumb to poisoning from foreign chemicals, possibly why don't see smaller fish they would have died off quicker
Oh so sorry Daniel you guys have been so dedicated to taking care of the pond. ❤
Sad for loss of fish in pond. The loss is not due to chemicals etc...but due to oxygen levels in water. We had a backyard small pond...had happen twice overnight and almost lost all fish. Installed a small areator many years ago and stopped that issue. Seemed to occur after a turnover in the morning from a cloudy previous day in summer and still conditions overnight, no winds.
If the severe rains earlier changed the chemistry or biology of the pond, that could be a contributing factor that led to the lack of oxygen.
I'm thinking rain brought in some chemicals or something maybe
I believe it was a year or two ago someone mentioned to you, to run that small boat of yours in the pond for the fish and I remember you doing that. I am not trying to be negative just something that came to mind, I also believe it was around the time you were loading the pond with fish also. God Bless you all 🙏🤗🤗🙏
I am so sorry to see this. We had a massive kill in our small pond (size compared to your pond). The Conservation tested the water and found a nearby pet food plant had run off which ran into our pond. Too much nitrogen killed all our fish. The pet food plant was required to take care of the problem of run off. 😢
With all the flooding that happened, you can only imagine what could have been in that runoff, and then your heat & drought……
I am sorry about the fish. I would be sad to. Poor Houston, my heart breaks for him. Thats a lot of fish. Holy Toledo! Beautiful Kelcie, i just love seeing her.
I am so sorry about your fish my heart goes out to your family ❤ love you guys
Sorry about the pond with the dead fish
I’ve watched your family for several years now and that pond is a big part of your family. I know you’re heart sick to see that devastation and loss.
Put the mini pontoon in for awhile like you did before. Might help short term with the oxygen
Poor Houston give him a hug from me, as someone said get the water tested
I'm so sorry!!! If it's lack of oxygen, I'd get some sort of aeration system going ASAP. Even if it won't help the whole pond, it would be something 💜
Seen this happen before. Usually when a pond, lake gets over populated and the fish are decently sized the lack of oxygen can cause a kill until the supply gets met. We use to have a family come fish ours to keep the population at check.
Ugh! That’s so sad and heartbreaking! Seeing Houston holding back the tears brought me to tears .. even fishing in the lake I could see how he was still trying to come to terms with the pond devastation. God bless you and I know Daniel (dad) will help him through this in a positive way ❤
As a woman who loves to fish, that’s heartbreaking 😢
Yes, it is!!!!
So sorry for your loss. Houston is like my own child and I love watching him grow I'm so sorry he's had to witness such a terrible loss.
Pond turned over. It happens but no worries it will bounce back better than ever
some of the minnow farms around here in Arkansas have attachments hooked to the back of a tractor stuck into the water splashing around putting breathable air back in there ponds. You might want to check into something like that.
Sorry about the pond guys😢 I wonder if there’s some disease going on in the pond I wouldn’t transfer the fish elsewhere until you find out
So sorry 😢😢😢
Ugh, I'm so sorry about the pond. That's truly heart breaking. I've been watching you guys for years and I know how much hard work you've put into keeping that pond well stocked and beautiful. I've seen you stock it full of tiny fish to fee the bass. My heart hurts for you. Again, I'm so sorry.
Have the water tested. I've had 2 fish kills in the last 2 years. Both times the water was highly acidic after a rain
Sorry about the loss of your fish on Your pond.. You need to talk to your Pond guy to put a big fountain head in there to aerate the water. The guy that built Houston's pond.
That is so heartbreaking. I hope you get the situation fixed
Im so sorry about your pond it happened use last year. Sending prayers for you all. Take a sample of the water and have it checked out maybe
So sorry about the pond, you have put in a lot of work into creating a healthy pond environment.
Wow shocking. I hope you test the water for future eating safety measures. Best of luck.🤞
So sorry. We lost our fish one year many years ago and they said the pond “turned over”, but I’m no expert by any means.
This is what it likely was. Its called an inversion.
we had to have our pond dredged out so they had deeper cooler water and have air ration system put in.... I live couple hours from you and 22 drought was horrible on our fish
I asked for prayer tonight for your family when we went to prayer meeting! Hope all works out! I have thought all day about your pond and the heart broken look on Houston’s face!😊🙏❤️
Oh no I'm sorry to hear that.
It might be the heat. Houston's face says it all, as does your voice, Daniel. Something to think about is making the pond deeper. Houston, you're fantastic. I always said that a day on the lake is incredible if there are no fish. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing, eh :))
High temperatures, then probably calm winds for days,, no wind aeration, sometimes a heavy rain with those condtions will remove oxygen levels. Need an aeration system on ponds in the woods where they don't get wave action to aerate the water. It's terrible, but you are blessed to have a pond and creek.
This broke my heart for Houston. His worried little face was so sad. Sending prayers for recovery for your little oasis. Time to get the boat out!
This happens at Lake texoma when the water closer to shore gets to the high 80s or into the 90s. The reports I saw they always check for chemical imbalances et in the water too.
My grandpa had a catfish pond that had a fish kill one year. It was around 1988 and it was super dry here in Alabama. He was having to use his tractor with the bucket to rake and scoop them off the bank as my dad and grandma drug nets to clear the surface. . He did that for 3 days. He buried them in the pastures and then a few years later planted a garden there that did phenomenal. His pond recovered in a couple years.
I dont pretend to know what happened there with the fishI just hope that something great comes from this devastation!❤
I am so sorry. I hope you will find the cause and are able to correct the issues.
I hope it can be restored! I remember it years ago, and like you said, nothing on the order of what has happened here. So very sad for this massive fish die off. Praying for it to come back for your family! 🙏❤️🩹🕊️✝️✡️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
If it's oxygen depletion....most ponds around my area use wind driven aerators that float on the water surface to prevent this kind of fish kill.
Can u explain what kind it is? Never heard of that. I don’t hav😂 access to power at my 3 acre pond
@@lindayoung6882 styrofoam base with 3-4 curved aluminum vertical blades that turn an underwater paddle when the wind is blowing.
That is so sad, I love to fish and I enjoy watching you and Houston fishing together. Please know how sad I feel for y'all. ❤❤❤😢😢😢
You need to get a pond O2 tester and a pond water test kit and keep track of it from now on. and I think the Ichthyologist is write and you should start over, from the bottom up. and this will let you make it as big as you like. And clean the ash off the bottom.
So sorry. Hope youcan find out for sure what has caused it and are able to salvage whatever is left in the pond
BTW Daniel, you're talking about the weather and how it can change. Now I live in Maryland on the east coast. We live on the Chesapeake bay. When the sky gets that cloudy, we just go in, no questions ask. A major storm can whip up in a second.
For those fish to die so quickly over a 5 day period is strange to say the least, as someone commented have the water tested right away. If it's a contaminate it could work its way into the creek both by the animals and where the swimming hole/dam is. Stay safe and so sorry to see this.
Sorry/ you will get it taken care of- prayers❤️❤️
When I saw the reel yesterday, I wondered about the oxygen levels with the heat. Seeing the water line indicates a huge volume loss. . .evaporation. Some fish do not tolerate the changes in pH balance. The pond did not have time to recover after the flooding, fluctuations of pH level too quickly
With the algae blooms we had in our stock tanks it was mainly the bigger fish that died. The young fish and smaller fish lived. I don't know if that information will help with the mystery but I hope so.
That’s so sad to see. This heat is brutal on ponds. Hope you guys get a good dose of rain (but no flooding) there soon.
Grab a pond test kit & test the water. There might have been something blown into the pond that has started to leech out
My heart broke seeing how hard it is for Houston and him wanting to save as many as possible. I would be doing that exact thing. In fact I have waded into flooded ditches to catch fish that got out of the ponds and put them back. It was quite an adventure but saving some made me feel better.
I am so sorry for your loss at your pond. I hope that you are able to get someone out there that can figure it out for you.
I am beyond sorry for your loss....
Probly from the flood that to the baby donkey so sorry for your loss guys
The flood was a month ago it could not be because of that
Probably a combination of the heat and extra bacteria in the water. That's a darn shame bluegills are some good eating. We used to go up to my folks cabin in tuolumne county me and my cousin would go fishing and feed everybody dinner all weekend!
We have a 2 acre pond that had a major fish kill to crop duster who accidentally sprayed our pond . We watched it happen and was able to get the plane marking and we reported it to DRN. We found all of our 3+foot grass carp, blue gill and cat fish floating.
Good luck with you clean up.
My family goes fishing before every summer heatwave, clean the fish and pack them in the freezers. They minimize the fishkill the old way. Planted lots of tall trees on the southern and western side of the pond last year which helped extend the fishing season. A subsurface and surface aerator installment is next, but taking a propeller motorboat ride through the pond when there is no wind in the air also aerates the pond, believe it or not.
I feel so bad I've been watching your videos a lot lately trying to learn something and it sucks that so many fish died so hopefully it is not too expensive to restock the pond, I felt so bad when Houston said "what happened to our fish" and his face looked so sad, this pond obviously means so much to you guys.
Hey Daniel and Huston. I'm sorry about your pond
I'm so sorry about your pond killing off the fish. When we get that problem here in western Florida, it's often from an algae bloom. Then everyone has to keep their dogs out of the area because they get sick and some even die. Is Kelce okay? It may be a good idea for her to get a checkup at the vet. People get sick from it too. Have you had anyone come to check out the pond and run some tests on the water? This is so sad. I am truly sorry for you guys. Perhaps you have gotten some good rain from the remnants pf the hurricane. But with all of the dead fish still in the pond, I don't know how much the rain will help. Sending up prayers, love and gentle hugs for the whole family and all of your critters, Donna Gulyas in Spring Hill, Florida.
Have to wonder if the flooding after the tornado and recently may have stirred up the silt layer in the bottom of the pond. The fish basically suffocate in the silt. At least you have the lake you can continue to fish in.
I am so sorry. This is so sad.
U need more cover in that pond and good aeration or cover like lilie Lily pads so sad😢😢😢😢😢
I can't remember if you guys have said if there's any sort of natural spring near the pond, but if there is, then you could do some sort of irrigation or small aqueduct to make it elevated above the top of the lake. That would give you aeration without needing a power source. Or you could go with some sort of windmill, provided you get some sort of breeze regularly enough.
Guys it’s horrific! Houston’s face said it all with how he was feeling , just total shock !. It makes you wonder if some disease has went through the fish, or something has poisoned the water. All I can say is I’m so, so sorry , I know the pleasure that the pond has brought yourselves and many of us who enjoyed watching you fish and maintaining the pond . Take care and stay safe 👍
The good news is now you have to use the boat to restock the pond
I'd definitely get your water tested. Possibly look at what is happening upstream from your pond? Something could be leaching into the water. Short term get some aeration system going. Just some of my limited experience in helping to take care of my dad's pond.
With the reported depth of your pond, the most likely cause is a sudden pond water inversion. You can dredge your pond to get rid of the muck and mud and get it deeper. You can bust your dam and drain your pond to deepen and reshape your pond. The later is more expensive but in the long run it is probably the wiser and most productive option. Ponds that hold 30’ of water rarely run into inversion problems. Of course if you go to all the trouble and work of deepen the pond, adding aeration only makes sense.
First thing my husband said was “oxygen”. As much as you all enjoyed that pond I think a summer project sounds right. That way Houston can tell his kids about the “Great 2024 Fish Tragedy” and how you two enlarged the pond and made it was it became in their time! Something tells me Grandpa Daniel will be there to tell the story too! ❤
Well, it appears Houston is beefing up like dad. 😊 He is growing up right before our eyes. Enjoy while you can dad!
I am so sorry for the situation at the pond... I have to admit that I teared up watching all of those dead fish on the bank 😔.
GOD is a good God and I'm glad you got the boat so you all can fish the lake this summer.
This video brought back so many memories of my grandpa and I would go fishing all the time when I was a kid. I remember that smell lol I felt like I could smell it thru the phone. Thank you for all the great videos.
I’m glad you two were able to go fishing and take tour mind off of the pond for a little bit. Seeing Houston’s face was heart breaking as well as your face. God will make the pond better❤. Have faith
