An old guy back in the 1990s said to me in all his fishing life he hasn't spoken to a fish that cares what brand or how much you spent on your seatbox. Always stuck with me!
I never fish any other way, been doing so for well over 70 years now and I catch just as much as any modern angler with their trolley loads of gear. I decide what to take before I go, it depends on what method I intend to fish, know all the waters I go to very well. I have a Shakespeare closed face real that I bought many years ago and it has never caused any problems with line tangles. They were designed to eliminate them.
@@tonycamplin8607 Good to hear, what Shakespeare closed face reel do you use? I’ve had my Abu customised to eliminate the tangles now but a reel that is perfect out of the factory is even better!
Enjoyed that. Always nice to see part of the canal network that is miles from me. I haunt the Llangollen stretch of the Shropshire Union Canal. It isn't clear and weedy like your canal though. Keep it up mate! 💜
Cheers, lovely part of the world. I guess the river under the aquaduct is private fishing? I walked from the aquaduct into Llangollen along the canal on a very hot day about 15 years ago. That was hard work but I’ve not fished it.
@@FISHINGMINTY yeah that river is a fly only club water..I think. I pick "mushrooms" down there in the autumn and see some huge and battered salmon or sea trout. Lovely part of the world for sure.
Thanks, yes since this video I applied a layer of felt to my spools and also had the reel serviced and the backwind pawl removed by Terry Truman which has made the reel much more useable.
@@FISHINGMINTY Me too, I bought new hooks only last year. Joking aside I started fishing again about 15yrs ago after a lengthy break. I went with a friend to a local fishery, 3 rods, bite alarms and a bloody great wheelbarrow to lug everything around. Not for me. I’m lucky enough to live close to the Stour in Suffolk. I dusty my old kit down and now spend many happy hours by the river. Hardly ever anyone else around seems people don’t fish rivers much anymore.
Along with a few more modern rods I still use the 12 foot float rod option of my Daiwa five-in-one rod set I got for my birthday when I was 15, especially when I want to swing-tip. Now 62.

Very true!
A very nice little video, and relaxing, well done.
Thanks Clive ☺️
I'm 12 years old again, same kit and fishing the "Hotties in St Helens". Nowadays a Ton of Kit & Baggage! Great video!
Cheers. I’m not sure if it’s safe to google hotties in St. Helens! 😄 Enjoy
How to brighten up a rainy new years day in only eight minutes 😊😊😊
Thanks for the comment. Spring can’t come soon enough! ☀️

A "Chenille" rimmed spool, reduces the line from getting behind & round the spindle - but not altogether.

Retro? I’ve never fished any other way still using a 50yr old Sealey blue match and Mitchell 410.
Lucky you, I can’t resist trying shiny new things!

You need a four wheel drive electric trolley to take your gear on nowadays
I do use a trolley for my match fishing but only a two wheeler manual. 🙂
