Thank you for this review. I tried the cubics dpn's for my first attempt at socks. The square shape really helped with the purling, which, for a new knitter, is tricky, especially when working in such a small guage. I am going to get a set of these.
I bought a set of Knitter's Pride Cubics a few years ago and I am totally in love with them. I would recommend them to everyone. I purchased my first cubic needle in Novenber 2015 while I was taking a class with Franklin Habit. He had not heard of them at that time and found the square concept intriguing, as did I. These are awesome needles and I love how they feel when I am using them!!
One thing everyone should know about square needles is the gauge will likely be tighter than normal. This is especially true in smaller sizes like sock needles. I normally use a 2.5mm needle for fingering weight sock yarn and usually get 8 to 8.5 stitches per inch. However, with that same yarn and 2.5mm sock needles, my gauge gets much tighter to 9.5 to nearly 10 sts per inch, so I go up to 2.75mm or even 3.0mm. You can see this in this video actually with the way the needle goes into the gauge swatch. It's not the entire needle's circumference that equals 8mm, it's only the corners, so the actual length of the circumference is shorter. If you're a particularly loose knitter however I don't think it will make much difference. I have one friend who knits very loosely but evenly who borrowed some of my square needles (technically Kollage needles, but the same general design as these) for a pair of socks and her gauge was exactly the same.
Ok. I purchased a set of the interchangeables and I hate them. They drag like mad. One broke straight away. I will stick to my ChaioGoos. I will only use the kubics dpns but not the ones I just purchased.

Are they made from some sort of metal? I am looking at the new set Joy which us so nice and colorful but no info on whether they are wooden or metal .
