In this episode, I respond to two service calls. One was a malfunctioning Makeup Air Unit (MAU) causing heating issues, while the other involved a concerning smell of gas. There was a bad winter probably 15 years ago. So much snow me and another guy had to dig across a mall roof to get to a Target rack that was going off on high head from the snow being over the condenser. I will -NEVER- do that again.

I live in Winnipeg, MB Canada aka The Great White North and get the same amount of snow. Lots of time I had to go into backyards of houses and dig out the 3 feet of snow from high efficiency furnace blocked vent pipes plus some on the roof. NO fun. I also did RTU work on strip malls.

I think a better solution is to raise it 36 to 48 inches. Snow fences will only make the snow deeper.
I service one MUA unit that is inset into a regular truss roof on the south side of an east/west located 3 store block. I had to raise the air inlet 3 ft to get above the drifting snow. The access door also opens outward, facing south and can have 1 to 2 feet of snow against it after a blizzard with a north wind. A very short sighted design intended to hide the unit behind the peak of the roof.
Be careful on roof with full snow
I wouldn't be in that building with all the snow weight on that roof....😮 that is a collapse waiting to happen.

Wow so basically they're smelling gas because the gas couldn't ignite because there is no oxygen for the burn. Then it probably tries to ignite a few times trips of safety mechanism and then shuts off letting the gas dissipate.
