Thanks Terry! It actually drives pretty smoothly considering what it is... But it does have a lot of converter! BottleRocket will get a good view the FORD letters on the tailgate... Andy
a few thoughts from my experience with my t-ram setup. I would have used 2 circuit carbs, also drill and tap a piece of 1/4" plate to hold your idle jet blanks when you drill them. Also some power drills will hold the tiny drill bits.
Seeing David's reaction got that much more excited for this truck. That's literally my dream truck brotha man! You should be very proud! Keep up the great work
Look what is in david,s driveway man,you are a True Ford man and you are a diehard at your engine and glad they are good ol boys willing to spend time/MONEY on them like you do.
Glad to see you are able to be rolling again. Won't be long before its dialed in. Figure the feeling behind the wheel is making all the tribulations worth it.
I dont have a lot or very little experience with those carbs . A long time ago I helped a friend with his bracket car . It had a 427 chev. Glide , Ford 10inch in a 67 camaro . We took it to the nationals and the engine was not running properly.. I pulled the 1050 off it and carried it to the Holly tech booth . He had a stack of 2.5 power valves. Gaskets ect . He installed the 2.5 Powe valve. Set the float bowls. Reassemble the carb. We were parked by a fellow that had a record holding hemi . He told me to pull those plugs and install a set of autolite . So I got a set for the aluminum heads in the 427 . Got lucky and won that day . So I used what I learned and used that information on my 302 chev camaro . 4 speed car . My street hot rod . Thanks for sharing your experience
I would say from my limited tuning that DV is on to something about those "small bird filters" you have on top. Check the size of the holes and multiply that by the number of holes. That is a giant choke in the airflow and you will never be able to tune it right until they are changed out for a non restrictive filter. Basically driving with the choke on. O2 sensors and AFR will let you know. Get them installed and then do back to back test with and without the "small bird filters" and that should tell you something.
I have a vintage 4500 Holley 1050CFM Dominator #9375 that has not only vacuum ports but, a mechanical choke on it. It was on a C454 Edelbrock intake. So? YES a Dominator can be "streetable".
What a fun ride! I put a large monoblade throttle body and tunnel ram on my Mustang. Rips down the track but took me quite a few years/seasons of tuning to get the idle and part throttle liveable on the street. No stalling, except when it's cold and I'm in a rush to get going, haha. Of course now that I say this, I'm switching over to race gas and will need to tune that and start the process over again. Very interesting carb design. When DV is smiling, you know you're on the right track!
Always fun to see carburator videos. I seems the control rod moves the linkage from about 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock. Would it not be better if it moved it from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock? Just like the linkage up to the Dominators? Some Kawasaki moorcycles has the same spark plug and water problem and the solution is to fill around the spark with grease. :) DV was very polite when commenting the "Air filters", but I am sure he was VERY disapointed that you drive it without a huge K&N or two.
4:18 if you reclock your throttle arm(the one your return springs are on) so it is almost vertical it will give it a lot better feel and reduce how much the throttle blades move per amount your foot moves. if you want data I highly recommend the stand alone Banks I dash. I sell RPM dataloggers as a dealer for years and I have used Corsa and Autometer Race Paks and for a street vehicle the wiring and amount of data the datamonster can do is way better than the others. You could have datalogged that entire trip to Davids house and back no problem then gone back and found that spot where it felt like it wanted to die and see what was going on there.
Great video Andy! Alot like hanging out on a Saturday with a friend, sorting things out. Of course, not many have that level of hotrod... and few of our "sorting" sessions had immediate positive results. Also enjoyed the longer format.
Love the videos! I have a rich idle circuit right now so this is good review! "The day you stop learning is the day you start dying" - Gene Winfield. He is 93 and still chopping roofs and teaching others
Thanks to you I've been able to cruise my Brawler Race 850 at a much nicer 13.5 afr! I went down on the IFR from .037" to .025" and slowly up from there. I think I ended up at ~.029"
Correct jetting makes or breaks a successful strip street combo. I noticed that the exhaust tone changed as you leaned out that idle ckt. In my experience, when I get the idle ckt correct the tendency to die on decel ceases. Loved Prof. Vizard's reaction when he saw those air filters. I take it you are planning a k&n set up? That truck has a very business like appearance. Keep up the good work. Thanks for sharing.
Great! video, Andy. Not only are you getting, Casper Dialed in. But we went on the roadtest with you. And of all places? Dv's house. I think he was asking. WTH are you doing? Andy with dryer vents on those carbs.
Awesome video! I am located in Ohio and I just installed a AFR gauge from auto meter in my 77 C10 short stepside along with a length hose ran into the cab for a vacuum gauge. Right off the bat you know if your rich or lean. In my case my squirter is rich then it goes lean. So I look forward to your next tuning videos bc I might be going down the same path. As a friendly reminder Andy, I also look forward to that Progression Ignition video review. The truck seems like it is running good so I'm sure the review on the distributor will be good also. I am looking at that distributor also but dont know how it will hold up bc it is such a new product. Keep up the good work👍
The evac system in both valve covers aren't doing anything unless the engine is at WOT & even then, it's negligible at best. That engine would pick up noticable horsepower with a quality Vacuum Pump. Just trying to help. I'd like to see you get everything you can out of your setup
Andy, get rid of those screen type filters and make an air box type of filter that doesn't restrict air flow, Looks good, sounds good, you should be proud of what its turned out to be. Just a few more details to fine tune.
Enjoying following along as always ! And simple adjustments or modifications with a hand drill ….?! Lol. That’s finesse my friend ! And you’re one of the best at it !! 😁 take care Andy
I've never played with the 4500 series carbs; have heard (well, read on the internet - which means it MUST be true 🤣) that the intermediate circuits seem to be 'hyperactive', metering fuel when the other circuits are also running. Not an issue with the 4150/60 series, or the 2-curcuit 4500's Happy to see you got the truck back together; now time for you to enjoy!
Beautiful area nice wooded curved too truck is nice i live in small town and made my self geral contactor i built 3 car shop 15 years ago and saved monny buy rent dich trencher cut 8.. slots and fameing to wall up 8.. and call concrete toget done find stuff to get readyand go doit you wont regrets
Cool !!! I am with the doctor DV loose the cans on top. I just want to say this, no-one i have ever hot rodded with other than myself tune IFR ‘s on a holly but thats were the fuel mileage and drivability come from. This is why your channel rocks because you get it all. No way do i want to line up next to Andy. Keep up the great videos. BTW i know nothing about intermediate circuits so i be watching for that video.
It's a process but they are coming around... I need to get my O2 bungs welded in! At least I can drive it in traffic now which is awesome.. Winter needs to be gone Andy
Early 90’s I was tuning a blown rotary. I was using lead shot to block the idle bleeds then drill them out, then test. Rinse and repeat until it was right. Later they put the engine on the dyno and after a day of tuning they didn’t get much more out of it and didn’t help the drivability any.
I’ve driven an 880 hp 540 around on the street for years with a two circuit 1050. I’m at altitude too so it likes the distributor locked. My cams 780 lift but only around 260/270 at .050 on a 108
You used a tiny drill for modifying the carbs. - Are these the ones David Vizard used to drill a hole in the spark plug electrodes? ...that he discribed in one of his video's. After, or before, he rounded the ground electrode so that the spark would always be at that point. Funny moment you with David saying 'You would be suprised how much restriction these filters give when dyno'ed' ...haha 😝
Still got your individual cylinder wideband sensors plugged in? Edit: posted before you said that it's not plugged in yet. Edit 2: after you changed the jets and you were on your way to David's, it still sounds way rich when cold. Edit3: you _absolutely_ made David's day when you drove up in Casper!
Yes! So happy to see this thing alive!!! I'm hoping to get heads and new carb my sn95 with the 351 I'm really hoping for 450hp ish with mid 20 mpg with the whole combo
Since I open up the idle and power valves to run E85 with single carbs, I am thinking of trying out some without opening them up to see how it runs with my tunnel ram. I'll go with some larger jets but leave the rest of it alone and find out what it needs. Of course the earliest that can happen is June... still have snow here. Lots of snow, despite it raining all day.
Great stuff Andy. DV was like a kid in a toy store...lol. I had to laugh at your intro, sorting out the carby's, "stay tuned" 🤣 😂 😆. My money is on Uncle Tony. Unless you get the slicks off a funny car, you're going to blow the tyres off ... 🤣 😂 glad to see the improvements. Just looking at the video, and the pedal response. The throttle looks very aggressive on initial movement. If you can, try lengthening the vertical link to the carby's, then adjust the pedal linkage to suit. By bringing the transfer arm around a little you will get away from the initial straight line pull, and more into an arc movement. That should help tone down the aggressive initial pedal action. Regards Greg
Personally I would never do a Tunnel Ram dual quad on the Street I know you guys Love them. Single 4150 1085 cfm Annular Booster Double Pumper BLP enough to worry about. Simplest easy dead nuts reliable 200% is SD455 704270 Rochester Quadrajet 800 cfm.
your cowl seal is missing, that happened to me on my 73 but it ran onto the breather and got in my carb.i put a new cowl seal on it 20 bucks, its good now
Not familiar with effects of intermediate passage. What is benefit over just idle and high circuits? Is it even more fuel over a two circuit? I do like 4 corner idle since it can be tuned to smaller IFR’s for cleaner plugs. But I only have one Quick Fuel on the street. My QF was real rich IFR now at .025” at all 4 corners and a .086” transition slot restriction all is good. This is in conjunction with reduced emulsions, .040” PVR and smaller jets front and rear. Enjoyed your presentation, please continue this tuning procedure.
kind of surprised you didn't go with modern billet metering blocks where every controllable orifice hole is threaded for easy tuning changes. also, drill bits are ok, but for precision orifice measurements, should invest in a pin gauge set, which are way more accurate than drill bits
I'm looking forward to seeing you take Tony's money. I like to calculate jet size changes by area. Unfortunately the length of the hole comes into play as well. BTW Casper looks Perfect!!!
@@hughgerection8675 Yeah, there is NOTHING impressive about UT or his way of doing things. I started watching his channel in Hope's of gaining some Mopar nuances but what I seen was a bunch of Hackery lack of any finesse and then the drama started, then I stopped watching......
I had 4 mufflers on my car .had problems cutting out on the top end .Then I read in a book that 4 mufflers were wrong .I took the 2 off and kept 2 and the problems were gone
You mentioned not wanting metal shavings inside your good metering block. How do you get the shavings out of your metering block when you drill out the factory restrictor and tap the good metering block
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I've seen it. Before you had mixed up boss in it. Now that you do and the carbs need running. It will give him an extra smile on his face. When he test drives it with the combination and a different feel of natural aspirated performance. I think he sees you as a good friend and a son. You have learned allot from him. And I can see he is very proud of you.
HI ANDY THANKS FOR ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO, I KNOW YOUR A BUSY MAN BUT I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOUR ADVISE ON SOMETHING IM BUILDING, LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU WILL BE FREE FOR A FEW MINUTES SO WE CAN TALK ,THANKS FOR YOUR TIME, MIKE
Jep,it appears that both channels are going more in the direction of drama at the sacrifice of legitimate content. I took the time on my last trip to the USA to stop by for a Sunday night live.
Lol. Drivable means it runs and drives. Streetable means it behaves properly on the street. For sure need to get those screens off there. Air has to come over the sharp edge to enter the carbs… Opposite of a velocity stacks purpose… Being cramped like it is might be fun to find something that works… Maybe a set of velocity stacks would work…?
Hey Andy, Do you think Allstate could build me a dominator that would have good street manners and still run good at the track? My Nova is a street/strip deal. It now has a Holley Sniper 4500 series and it has serious issues that Holley and two tuners can’t figure out. Thinking seriously about switching to a carb if I can get a good one. Thanks, and I love your videos man. Can’t wait to see Casper at the track.
Its no different really, as long as you have bleeds in each circuit- you will be fine. would have been nice to do your cylinder jetting on the dyno, that is, if you didn't.
Andy thanks for the ride, Casper pulls up nice good torque curve 👌 but I'm driving next time 😆 🤣 I think bottle rocket better bring 2 bottles 😉 😉

kind of surprised you didn't go with modern billet metering blocks where every controllable orifice hole is threaded for easy tuning changes. also, drill bits are ok, but for precision orifice measurements, should invest in a pin gauge set, which are way more accurate than drill bits
I wanted to keep the old school looks with the carbs and the build..
Andy
Big Fingers and Wire Drills not fun , I 've had one job that called out for .006 diameter air bleeds sounds good !!!
I'm looking forward to seeing you take Tony's money. I like to calculate jet size changes by area. Unfortunately the length of the hole comes into play as well. BTW Casper looks Perfect!!!
It won't be hard to take utg money with the junk he's working with, the question is will he pay up when he loses?
@@hughgerection8675 Yeah, there is NOTHING impressive about UT or his way of doing things. I started watching his channel in Hope's of gaining some Mopar nuances but what I seen was a bunch of Hackery lack of any finesse and then the drama started, then I stopped watching......
Thanks! That is how I do it as well with the PVCR's
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Yes PVCR for wide open. Main jets for cruise. 😎
Andy you gotta get kitty trained to put prints on passenger side of the windshield.
I had 4 mufflers on my car .had problems cutting out on the top end .Then I read in a book that 4 mufflers were wrong .I took the 2 off and kept 2 and the problems were gone
Sounded good Andy. Really interested in your air bleed tuning.
Thanks Stephen!
Andy
informative vid.
Thanks Bob!
Andy
I know 1 can . I drove a big block chevy 525 ci. With a 1050 progressive linkage for years
You mentioned not wanting metal shavings inside your good metering block. How do you get the shavings out of your metering block when you drill out the factory restrictor and tap the good metering block
You have to blow it out with a nozzle...
Andy
We run dominators on more stuff than we'll admit, you'll get 'em sharp and crisp - two gallons of fuel at a time! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i got my hood to cowl seal from LMC trucks, they will send you a free catalog
Put a 4-speed toploader in it man,if you are a true wildman.just saying from the ol school crowd.
I think David Vizard wanted to drive Casper.
Oh he has driven Casper before! I'm sure he will grade me on my carb tuning on this combo as well later on..
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I've seen it. Before you had mixed up boss in it. Now that you do and the carbs need running. It will give him an extra smile on his face. When he test drives it with the combination and a different feel of natural aspirated performance. I think he sees you as a good friend and a son. You have learned allot from him. And I can see he is very proud of you.
If you have enough motor and know how to tune, yes.
Mike, I should be free this weekend at some point!
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage THANKS ANDY 570-706-5011
That sounds mean 👍
Take Tony's money it's well-deserved
What do you and David think about 'side gapping' plugs?
Personally I...blame squirrels and UTG and DD
Jep,it appears that both channels are going more in the direction of drama at the sacrifice of legitimate content. I took the time on my last trip to the USA to stop by for a Sunday night live.
I heard John Woodworth is to blame, too!
@@baby-sharkgto4902 lol that damn John Woodworth fella
I'm battling giant alien cave crickets in my basement crapper
I will have to figure something out... That's forsure
Andy
Hey Andy, Do you think Allstate could build me a dominator that would have good street manners and still run good at the track? My Nova is a street/strip deal. It now has a Holley Sniper 4500 series and it has serious issues that Holley and two tuners can’t figure out. Thinking seriously about switching to a carb if I can get a good one. Thanks, and I love your videos man. Can’t wait to see Casper at the track.
Curt I'm sure that Jim at Allstate carburetors can hook you up! Tell him I sent you..
Andy
Its no different really, as long as you have bleeds in each circuit- you will be fine.
would have been nice to do your cylinder jetting on the dyno, that is, if you didn't.
