    Great video, very informative and clear. Going to replace my fans soon as the bearings are getting a bit noisy on my 3080 gaming x trio haha.

      Great, and I hope its a help to you. Good luck on the fan replacement. I had a trio card that was a bit noisy, but it was actually a fan that was fouling with the shroud, and loosening and moving the shroud slight fixed it. If its a 'ticking' sound, you are hearing, check this also. You can gentle turn the fans to see if they touch at all, but with mine it only happened occasionally and at mid speed RPM.

    I ordered a set of "two ball bearings" from ali express and it was cheap.
    I had to replace the front on because it had a weird noise from the bearing.
    Easy installation and very helpful video.
    I noticed that the new ali express ones are much lighter than the original and also very quiet.
    The man fan speed is the same as the original.
    Also i noticed a 2-5c increase but im not sure due to climate changes.
    Did you noticed any difference in weight of the fans,any thermal increase or any other difference?
    What model did you use?
    Thanks for your time

    What size/type are the screws initially, gotta replace them due to the gpu slowing gaining rust

      I don't have the details on the type of screw, as I have never had to replace any. But taking a screw to a hardware shop could be a way to go. The shroud screws and the fan screws are different, with the fan screws being countersunk and flat head, and the shroud having a rounded top. However, they seem to have either the same, or a very similar thread. This is true at least on the units I have taken apart, which is a few.
      Sorry I can't help more there, but good luck finding replacements.

    Very helpful video. I noticed that your fans are ball bearing. I just bought a new RTX 3060 TI and it has long life bearing. Have I bought a faulty card or is it random what kind of fan you get? The reason im replacing the fans is that the card itself gets loud at only 45% fan speed, its completely quiet at 30% .
    Your fans are PLD09210B12HH while mine are PLD09210S12HH. Can you please let me know about this? The ones I ordered from ebay/china are S12HH. I was wondering if I should order the B12HH but also afraid that they might not work since the original ones are S12HH at the end of the model number..

      I am not sure why the different fans, it could be manufacturing date, or even where it was manufactured. Maybe MSI changed the fan models at some time. I believe the 'B' fans are ball bearing and the 'S' are sealed fluid bearings. Its possible they moved from one to the other for cost or reliability reasons.
      I would say the part numbers are not the most important thing, check the electrical specs, mine were DC 12v 0.40Amp and I would guess those are the same or similar. And of course the fitting, the diameter and the depth of the fan. I picked up some Ventus fans from Ali Express and despite being the same model number, they were physically shallower and the fan blades were too close to the shroud and could foul in certain conditions.
      I had a mixed bag from Ali Express, some looked convincingly original enough to believe they are the same unit from the same manufacturing line, some I suspected were not. But if they work, then its probably not a major issue...
      And not sure the choice of bearing or fluid bearings is the most important, its probably the quality of the parts construction. Fluid bearings are notionally longer lasting and quieter, but more expensive. But I don't have any comparisons on the two for a given card.
      Hope this helps a bit, and good luck.

      @@sometechguy Thanks for the reply. Im getting the order posted tomorrow. I can confirm the fans I ordered are DC 12v 0.40Amp and 90MM dimensions. Same as that ones that are currently in my gaming x trio. Im praying they turn on and run quiet. If not, I will have to reach into my wallet and try to buy the ball bearing version and see how it goes.. let you know tomorrow and thanks again

      Pleasure and good luck. If you are getting from somewhere like ebay, you could return them if they are not up to scratch.

      @@sometechguy Update on the fans. Just received them the ones sent from China. They actually sent me ball bearing fans. Some of the fins had dust on them so they were either used or tested heavy, cables were in good condition.
      UNFORTUNATELY there is hushing sound when the fans are spinning. Like a hiss, as if they were being dragged on paper. What a pity...

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  Рік тому

      If you got them from Ali Express you should be able to return for refund. I managed to get a refund on all fans I bought that were not up to scratch, but how easy this is and if it cost me anything depending on the seller. But sending clearly second hand fans kind of sucks.

    any chance you could do one for a strix 4080? middle fan bearing is gone and has a really annoying buzzing/clicking sound

    hey, nice vid! would you happen to know what size screws for the fans? not the shroud, the fans themselves. some say M1x2, but im not sure?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  Рік тому +2

      Thank you. Actually, someone else asked the same question and I have not had to replace any screws so I don't know what size they are. The threads on the two screws appear to be the same, but the fans have a counter sunk head where the shroud has a rounded head. But as for the actual size, I would take one of the existing screws into a hardware store and they should be able to find a direct replacement. Good luck, and if you find the answer it seems like you are not alone in needing to replace them.

    One of my RX 6800's fan is a little bit noisy. Not very much but you can hear it even at 35-45% fan speed. I have 2 questions. My MSI varranty won't end if I change this noisy fan? and second: Every MSI Gaming X Trio have the same fan? Is there no difference between Nvidia RTX 3080 and AMD Radeon RX 6800?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  Рік тому +1

      The warranty question may depend by location. In some places, there is a legal right to repair. As long as you don't damage the card during the work, it should not have an impact. Even where there isn't this right, the fan change doesn't involve breaking the warranty sticker, so again if no damage is done then I wouldn't expect a problem, but may need to check before hand to be certain. If the fans have different electrical details and it blows something up on the card, then this could be a problem, so check that first.
      As for the 6800, I have not opened one of those up, but if the fans are the same diameter and the headers are in the same location on the PCB, I wouldn't expect a problem. Look at the video, and at your card and see if everything seems to be in the same place. You can even open it up and check the model numbers of the fans.
      One last thing, i saw a Trio card that made a ticking sound from the fans. It wasn't actually a problem with the fan, just that the fan was slightly contacting the shroud at certain fan speeds. If the fan looks like its getting close to the shroud, or if there is some dirt causing that, you can either clean the fan blades with some isopropanol, or loosen the shroud and make sure it has clearance to the fan.
      And good luck with the card!

    Is it possible to disassemble and lubricate the fan?

    • @sometechguy
      @sometechguy  Рік тому +2

      If you peal back the sticker from the back of the fan, you should be able to lubricate it there, using something like sewing machine oil. If the fans are a bit noisy, that may fix it without a replacement.

      @leolagoa1 Рік тому +1

      I believe that it would not last long, since if the bearing is bad the right thing would be to grease it, but they are usually sealed and it would not be possible to do so, and the oil after a few days will dry up and maybe be worse than before…
