So what we’re seeing here is they aren’t in any ski lodge or snow(no wendigos) and the only thing that it has in common is the name? For a video game adaptation, this is something extremely unexpected and disappointing
@@crono_diggerIt's not them crying. It's them pointing out what the movie is, which is pretty much a movie called "Until Dawn", but doesn't even seem like it has anything to deal with "Until Dawn" 🤷🏽♂️
"So we took this story from this franchise that people really enjoyed and turned it into something else." The same guy probably goes into McDonalds and goes "I want Egg Fried Rice from McDonalds as a new experience." and then gets mad when they say: We don't serve that here.
Just play the game then. There's no way a straight adaptation would be anything other than a worse version of that game anyways, something inspired by it that goes in its own direction is more interesting
The sad thing is, this would actually be a really cool and interesting idea for a horror movie, if they just called it something else. People like to complain that Hollywood has no original ideas anymore, but even when somebody has an original idea, it’s forced to become an IP product anyway.
This! Literally the studios are forcing existing IPs on original ideas, otherwise they’re afraid it won’t sell. Original ideas can fly only with huge names attached either behind or in front of the camera. Modern Hollywood sucks.
Neat concept but this could have been its own movie unrelated to the game. Why make a movie adaptation of a game, if you're not going to use the game's storyline and characters? 🤦
The name recognition is important. If it was called "Restart" or something random like that it would not achieve the same success that this film will likely have because of the brand recognition.
My thoughts exactly! Maybe they wouldn’t have received funding (can’t find the right word) otherwise? Hollywood doesn’t seem to be really interested in original ideas right now. 🤷🏻♀️
@@annabelleperezdonate6923 Not only that but video game adaptations are the next blockbuster era, we seem to be closing the door on the comic book era.
@TheOminousFlareShow I think they are wildly overestimating the popularity of Until Dawn, then. Borderlands has a lot more name recognition and failed miserably, and that one even loosely adapted the game's story, or at least used the character names to draw some attention.
Nah they tricked me last year with the casting announcements. I feel like they were specifically choosing actors and actresses who matched the game characters only for it to be a totally different premise and have nothing to do with the actual game?
0:54 coming back to life and being in a different genre doesn't happen at all in the game, and that seems to be the main premise of the movie so its not something small to gripe about. Just make an original movie, why make us excited for an adaptation?
From what I have gathered, this is not actually a live action "Until Dawn." If anything, it's a film inspired by Supermassive Games and their style of gameplay. Or... it's an attempt at a more serious "Happy Deathday."
The fans wanted Until Dawn, as in the same story. Preferably like Netflix's "Bandersnatch". W/e this is, is not what the fans wanted. 50/50 says it will be good or bad.
I knew it had to be something like that because in the game you make the decisions just like he said, but in a movie you’re not in control so decision is already made the only way you can change the decision you make is by basically starting the game over
As long as we get the Wendigo and good scares...LFG. I think Sandberg is a solid director choice and the writer is a fan of the game so we'll see if it's bound by the "video-game-movie curse" or if it beats all expectations and excels like Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Interesting idea. The fun aspect of the game is its re-playability, if they just made a strict retelling of the movie, it would remove the multiple choices as it’s no longer a game, and would be a very dull, straightforward film. At least this is trying to do something innovative with the restrictions placed on it by being a movie, so I hope it works out for them
Sounds like Hollywood taking another franchise and trying to "make it their own". It's like they never learn. We literally just want the game, but live action. Copy and paste. That simple
Sorry to break it to you but it's not Until Dawn without the wendigos... this looks like a dud and they plastered Until Dawn in the title.. hope they change my mind in the actual trailer
Doesn't feel like until dawn. Concept intresting, but feels recycle groundhog day plot. But could work. Idno. The atmosphere in the cinematography and the production design is very cheap for a game adaptation of a solid game
What's the point in watching a movie that has nothing to do with the brand it's purporting to represent? It's just a manipulation tactic to get butts in seats to watch another ho hum, generic horror movie.
@ d-did you just listen to what they were saying in the video? This is looks anything but generic lmao. You’re acting like Until Dawn storyline wasn’t generic at all.
The premise of time looping seems to be the main draw, and it's in a different location with a different story and different characters....its not an adaptation of the game. Game fans are feeling used because we are.
This is why I hate adaptations of video games. YES LETS MAKE IT TOTALLY DIFFERENT FROM THE GAME, THE AUDIENCE WILL LOVE THAT! Hmmmm I wonder why video game adaptation movies mostly fail smh.
You know, we were doing pretty well with video game adaptations lately, the Sonic movies, Detective Pikachu, Mario, Arcane, and Fallout all ranged from being decent to being great, and now we have something that doesn't feel like it's gonna follow up the story from Until Dawn the game, and come up with some dumb original plot that the studio slapped a recognized name on in hopes of getting a profit
Hey David! I know you're scrolling through the comments, so I just wanted to say: Please drown out the skeptics and the cynics. They're upset because they love the source material and they're worried you've inherently changed what made the game's story so special. Especially with the time-loop plot. Because they love Until Dawn, they'll still go see it. If you've made a good film here, and I have faith that you have, they will turn around. The sentiment towards Wicked was similar until release, once people got their butts in seats. The normies, which are 90% of the audience are not upset at this first look, which is why they aren't furiously commenting under it. I wish you well and want you to know that your journey in this industry from UA-cam to silver screen inspires me greatly. Sending genuine well wishes from Canada.
Noooo nooooo what are they doing? What is the point of making a movie based off a video game? If you don't make it like the video game.. I was looking forward to this but not I may not even see it. Sad.
You know the cliche about it was all a dream. Yeah I wouldn’t advertise that your death sequences have no consequences that = no suspense. Ohh crap they are gonna die oh wait they can come back.
Because if you say "Until Dawn Movie" people will expect the game in a movie format. If you call it something else or even just a part of the universe, itd make sense.
Wouldn't it makes more similar to Until Dawn if the characters weren't aware of the different routes? Like, this has more similarities to Undertale of all things
Interesting concept, will be cool to see what horror genres they will use. People crying about the name being the same as the game but would still be crying if it was a like for like of the games story.. can't win.
So it's not Until Dawn then.

For a video game adaptation, this is something extremely unexpected and disappointing
So in other words, this has nothing to do with Until Dawn. Gotcha.
So does it make it better or nahhh
I would rather have this film bring newcomers to the franchise by being an adaptation of the 1st game.
Just go and play the game maybe that’ll make u stop crying

Yeah…. Until Dawn did not have a “Groundhog’s Day” mechanic, your choices are your own and they are final.
It's a groundhog's day mechanic each time you play it again and make new decisions😂
Uhh, what?? It's not even Until Dawn. Just call it something else. So stupid.
If it was a side story or an anthology story to the 'Until Dawn' games, that would've worked.
Because people who never saw the trailer but played the game will go see it if it's called Until Dawn.
Then call it something else! Until Dusk, until morn, until daybreak. SOMETHING
AHAHAHA!!!

Why are they making a movie based on a game that's based on movies?
It's not based on a movie, the game is very cinematic and inspired by horror movies, but the plot was its own.
@CanadianChick811 that's what I mean though, it's an original story but it's heavily based on multiple elements from movies that already exist

It maybe Tuesday, but this trailer gave me the Mondays...
Generic trapped-in-house loaded with teenage angst and emotions.. hard pass. Not even Peter could save this

why call it until dawn if it doesn't have the same script?

I get that the actors from the game are older now but thats not an excuse to make something completely different 😂
This is more like a *Reimagining* , not a direct adaptation 🤔
That’s a cool concept. Literally being in a video game but in real life. Way more entertaining than just a linear movie similar to the game
They could've kept this same concept and just kept it at the same setting as the game and it would've been fine. Should've been a mountain lodge :(
they already flopped 🤦♂️ was excited to see some wendigos now its just a different concept. i knew they were gonna ruin it somehow.
a teaser for a teaser

why??? the game was already a movie with limited gameplay
Very excited for this! Glad they’ve changed the story rather than doing a carbon copy!!

This kinda lost me ngl, I was hyped for the movie tbh, but not anymore.
This is actually an excellent idea for a movie, but it has nothing to do with the game though
