YES! Epic Mickey made it onto this list! So glad it did. It's my favorite video game of all time, and creeped and scared me so much my first time playing it. Personally, it's the top darkest game I've played, but that's just me.
Far Cry 5 is probably one of the darkest games that is actually realistic to real life. It is not afraid to go to some pretty dark places. Also, I will forever argue that Joseph Seed is a chilling villain who just fills a room with his presence. Very few normal looking human villains just take up a room with their presence without ever saying a word, Joseph does it in every scene he is in regardless of whether or not he speaks in the scene. Jacob, John, and Faith are terrifying in their own ways too. But Joseph is easily the scariest of the 4 siblings. I also love the sin angle that it takes. It identifies the sins of the main villains and shows how it affects them. John is the best example of this…he is extremely insecure and has one of the biggest superiority complexes I’ve ever seen. And it is because of the horrors and abuse that he experienced as a child that kind of makes him act superior to others. And because of that, he will result to murder and torture without a second thought. I think he may relish in it. For all his talk of atoning for sins, he sure has some atoning to do.
Okay, I know that I'm late for tho party, but I must say this: One of the darkest games I have played in the nearest 6 years have to be Darkest Dungeon. Simply said, it's a story about how ones curiosity and desire for knowledge led the entire estate to be corrupted by the forces unknown to human. Every single boss in this game at one points were a normal humans with their own desires and reason to be in this estate. Every hero in the game - is a person, who downer really care anymore about their own life: some seek redemption, some meaning, some power, and some death in battle. The entire premise in the game is freakin dark and, honestly, depressing.
Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented. Not only does it have ghosts, murder, and grisly human sacrifice, but the overall theme of the game is survivor's guilt and grief for those we love and have lost, and how those emotions and mentalities gradually influence our entire life. Not only is it a beautiful game, but it's a heart-breaking one, even moreso than the other games in the series.
The darkest game that I personally would have added (Not as dark as Super Paper Mario) is Super Meat Boy. While I haven't played Binding of Isaac, I'd say one of the other games that Danny Baronowsky composed the soundtrack to for multiple reasons.(WARNING: THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!) - Dr. Fetus is motivated by the fact no one loved him. It may not sound too bad, but considering the villain's design, it's obvious that Dr. Fetus was originally ABORTED. - Every time you beat a level, Dr. Fetus BEATS Bandage Girl. - At the end of Chapter 1, Dr. Fetus BURNS DOWN A FOREST, and we see the effect it has on a little squirrel who survives it. - There's a chapter where Meat Boy GOES TO HELL. - There's a boss fight against a giant made of THE CORPSES OF MEAT BOY FROM ALL THE TIMES HE DIED. - When you beat the boss of the chapter I mentioned earlier, Dr Fetus NUKES THE PLANET. - As you progress through the chapters, there's a face on each chapter on the world map, but as you progress through the game, each face looks more and more deteriorated as you progress.. I'm probably just scratching the surface here, considering I'm still trying to finish it.
I've played some dark games like Majora's Mask, Super Paper Mario, and Kirby Planet Robobot, but the darkest is Mother 3. SPOILERS AHEAD! In Chapter 1, the Pigmask Army are a group of Nazi pig people who killed Hinawa, the mother of the protagonist, Lucas. Then in Chapter 3, we have Fassad, one of the commanders of the army, holding a monkey named Salsa's girlfriend hostage. Salsa has a shock collar attached to him, and he can't do anything without getting a zap. Later in Chapter 7, we see the Chimera Lab. Chimeras are fusions of animals and something else, like other animals or machines. The Ultimate Chimera is loose, and will chomp anyone. It's creators are even terrified of it. Later on Tanetane Island, the party eats mushrooms causing hallucinations, seeing loved ones that are actually monsters. There's dialogue ranging from funny to downright disturbing. One of the creators was terrified by the original script, it was changed. And in Chapter 8, your brother Claus was turned into a cyborg, and after regaining his memory, KILLS HIMSELF because he wants to join his mother, and when Lucas pulls the final needle, the world is destroyed, but luckily rebuilt and saved. There were also removed background for the final battle, and let's be glad they were removed and cut.
And in the genocide run, once you kill everything at a certain place, you hear music that is actually pretty creepy. The game is dead silent after you clear the first town and the music plays once you've killed everything there.
Nitrome's Canary is a flash game I won't forget. It's basically dead space flash edition, but you don't expect a flash game on a site for kids and preteens to have a deadspace flash edition. You're a miner in an asteroid that has parasites which are spreading like kudzu and even take over your fellow co workers and your boss, who you have to kill before you blow up the asteroid which is your home. The laser you kill your boss with is your only weapon in the game and it overheats quickly and had a long cool down.
the darkest game I've ever played is the stanley parable. on the surface this game seems to be a fun take on the classic choose your own adventure game. But dig deeper and you find some pretty disturbing stuf like stanley killing himself so the narrator can't be happy or the narrator asking stanley to die even the narrator throwing stanley in a crusher or blowing him up.
For me it's spec ops the line for the Xbox 360. The reason I think this game is dark is because the deeper you go the more the main character loses his mind. He thought that walker was alive, he thought that a heavy enemy was one Lugo who a couple of minutes ago got beaten to DEAF by the people who lived there, the imagined him going to hell, and he kills a rescue party and is left a broken man if you got that ending. So ya your character goes nuts
Yeah, with you on your FNAF comment at the end. Dark isn't the same as scary. Scary, well, scares, while dark disturbs. It's the difference between FNAF and Silent Hill. And you know what? I far prefer dark to scary.
Crazy Penguin Dude the story is extremely dark.. Kids were murdered and stuffed into animatronic suits and ended up trapped haunting the pizzeria inside the suits. And there's so much more behind it.
spoilers: lets see....some guy kills multiple children and no one notices the corpses get hidden inside animatronics they begin to stink but no one want to look for the reason and they will be melted soon animatronics attack innocent guys either because they hold the soul of one of the corpses or their programming goes nuts depending on the animatronic the animatronics that hold the souls get destroyed and the souls scare the murderer into accidently kill himself the murderer now wants to kill a new worker and survives the place burning down,so he is now free most of the stuff in the games happens in a dreamworld that is powered by a dying child that is traumatised and this world is actually legit as there are some things in it that the boy cant know about in his situration and some souls seem to have traveled to it and the list goes on.definitly not dark at all
well I know two games you can add to this collection : 1- If you are a fan of Hidden Object games : Cursery : The Crooked man and The Crooked cat ( great music great storyline all the good stuff ) 2- NieR : Automata : This is not scary but it is tragic so it still counts I really Recommend it
Metro Last light is one of the darkest games in my opinion. Mainly because of the ghost encounters, where you see how people (including children) are left to suffer alone (like the child waiting for his mother) or in pain (the dampened souls).
Your approach to this list is pretty good since most people only put in Games that are supposed to be ALMOST COMPLETELY DARK however I recromend you try LISA the painful RPG if you want to play a dark game... its kind of like Undertale and Citizens Of Earth however it tackles alot of dark themes which most games tend to avoid however unlike most Post-Apocolypse games it's not actually because of the landscape itself instead the characters are what make it a dark and depressing but funny and enjoyable game.
Actually,I've heard if you mess around with Undertale's memory files via steam a little but, you can completely reset everything if you've killed someone in the run, so it's all good if you figure out how to.
The fucked up thing is. Hush, a boss from TBOI is actually symbolic of Isaac suffocating while hiding from his mom And Delirium actually symbolizes Isaac's life flashing before his eyes before he dies of suffocation
"Aww...look at the adorable little Squiglet...So adorable under your foot.""A bump from a poor, defenseless Whacka.Restore 30 HP and cures poison... How do you sleep at night?""Bring back my Whackaaaaaaa!"
I have two games with SPOILERS: 1: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. An epic cold war story with a bit of quirky characters. Two moments are really dark though. At one point, you need to fight The Sorrow. His battle is just walking down a river while you pass by the ghosts of everyone you killed. Second is the ending. Naked Snake needs to kill his mentor, The Boss, who defected to USSR. The problem is that she didn't really defect and only faked it as part of her mission. Worst, you don't watch a cinematic of snake killing her, you need to pull the trigger yourself 2: Final Fantasy VI -Genocide of a race of monster -A man forced to watch his wife and son embark on a train that'll lead them to death -A women getting tortured -the main bad guy destroying the world -one of the protagonists attempting suicide -A bittersweet ending because 90% of everyone is dead Now let's see the age rating: E10+ HOW THE HELL DID SOMEONE THINK THIS IS OK FOR 10 YEARS OLD TO PLAY
Danganronpa Ultra Despair girls. I mean, its not one of the 3 main games, but it's wayyyy darker. (SPOILERS AHEAD!!!) So the 3 main games revolve around you (well, you're assigned a character) and you and a bunch of other high school students who are talented in one specific thing are trapped in a place that varies throughout each game, and are forced to either commit murder and get away with it, be killed, or stay there forever. Ultra Despair Girls is a spinoff shooter game that revolves around the protagonist from the fist game's sister, Komaru, and your partner (who was a character from the first game) Toko. There are these five ten year olds who call themselves the "Warriors of Hope" and vouch to "kill every demon to make Towa City a children's paradise", only the ten chillens (who so happen to be elementary-school level talented) suffered from extreme child abuse (physical, sexual, extreme overworking, mentally degraded, etc.) and the demons are adults. I'm not going to spoil too much, but basically the leader ends up manipulating the other four chillens and she never was abused in the first place. She just wants to inflict despair on everyone. Everyone from that lil gang ends up dying (unless ur kotoko) and kotoko I assume reforms. And the worst part it, it's not highschoolers killing each other out of desperation, it's ten-year-olds holding a massacre out of their own free will. Idk man, but monoca (the leader) better get her dirty hands the fuck OFF of nagisa before i punch her.
The entry into Columbia in Bioshock Infinite is one of the darkest fucking things I have ever seen in a game. TBH it is very disturbing, incredibly unsettling, and the light cheerful atmosphere and music on top of it makes it even more unsettling. Also Preacher Fucking Palpatine. That is just fucked up. Also honorable mention to Bravely Default. The game starts all light-hearted but the further and further in you get, the more you learn, the more dark it becomes.
I am gonna set the stage for both games Cursery : the game with you ( the protagonist ) and your sister traveling on a path while your sister is telling you about maidens around her age who go through this path are kidnapped then suddently a cat attacks you and a tall man takes your sister then after searching for a while you find out that There was once a young noble who fell in love with a village girl the girl died before there marrige the grief of the irl dying caused the noble to go insane and turn into The Crooked Man and she is now kidnapping maidens around his fiance s age to find her fiance s reincarnation. NieR Automata : this game is supposed to be like SPM and suprisingly dark. you need to play the game 3 times to complete it the first to times are normal the third time is where shit hits the fan and all hell breaks loose and the game becomes very dark
Metro games, LA Noire, Inside and Condemned: Criminal Origins are the ones that i can think of that i found were really dark, mostly Inside. LA Noire just had very adult themes like rape/child rape and very in tense murders. Metro was just really unnerving, and Condemned is just fucked up. But Inside was just a weird thing to play, made me so uncomfortable in the sort of way that i kinda loved somehow, but ill never get over seeing a little boy getting shot, eating, stabbed, drowned and strangled.
i have to say hotline miami was most messed up, the events were out of order in many parts (the rewind and such) and the fact that the 2nd game shows the mutilator was actually a pretty good guy, the phone calls, the fact that each mask somehow gives you different abilities, and how colorful the game is despite the dark and depressing storyline. In the end, you have to say the mutilator was a good person.
Well of course. After all, Kirby disembowels his foes in that game. We see their innards flying everywhere, and we're supposed to act like that's not terrifying.
0:42 Seriously, a Kirby games is darker than a Resident Evil game? Who says that? If there is someone in here who says that, that means that people might live under a rock.
I've played alot of dark games. But if i have to pick the darkest games i've pick the whole diablo franchise. Damn did blizzard and blizzard north had the balls to make the most darkest RPG franchise since the 90's.
I kinda disagree on number 4 I think partners in time especially the final boss. Undertale makes sense because I played the genocide route and beat it.
For me it would be Shin Megami Tensei . There's something about that game that creeps the frick outta me. Oh, and don't even get me started on Earthbound!
my top 10 10 little inferno 9 kirby´s epic yarn 8 mechanika 7 epic mickey 6 60 seconds 5 undertale 4 spooky´s jumpscare mansion 3 danganronpa 2 the cave 1 the binding of isaac
Partners in time is super not scary because I find it fun and Luigi’s mansion has literally no scares at all so yeah I agree on this but if you could add new games how about smash ultimate the fact that the non fighters die and become spirits and the evil fighters controlled by galeem and dharkon are incredibly scary
YES! Epic Mickey made it onto this list! So glad it did. It's my favorite video game of all time, and creeped and scared me so much my first time playing it. Personally, it's the top darkest game I've played, but that's just me.

And in round 2, he made it his number 1

Ah.
Super Paper Mario is easily the darkest Mario game of all time.

Poster Of Shit I would have to agree with you about Super Paper Mario is the darkest game in the Mario series.

Okay, I know that I'm late for tho party, but I must say this:

- When you beat the boss of the chapter I mentioned earlier, Dr Fetus NUKES THE PLANET.
- As you progress through the chapters, there's a face on each chapter on the world map, but as you progress through the game, each face looks more and more deteriorated as you progress..
I'm probably just scratching the surface here, considering I'm still trying to finish it.
I'd say most of that is dark humor rather than being actually dark imo.
I've played some dark games like Majora's Mask, Super Paper Mario, and Kirby Planet Robobot, but the darkest is Mother 3. SPOILERS AHEAD!

You just admitted you live in the East
Skylanders superchargers and spyros adventure can get really dark towards the end.

That is Epic Mickey.

I'm just curious, what do you think of that 60 Seconds game that made number 6?
Whenever my sixes match up, it's sheer coincidence
The binding of Isaacs screwed up but it doesn’t really phase me it’s either I’ve been desensitised or I’m screwed up myself
That theory was great
I have a feeling that 60 seconds at 6th is somewhat ironic.
the only disturbing thing about Five Nights at Freddy's is the jump-scares

The darkest game I have ever played was The Binding of Isaac afterbirth +
The entry into Columbia in Bioshock Infinite is one of the darkest fucking things I have ever seen in a game. TBH it is very disturbing, incredibly unsettling, and the light cheerful atmosphere and music on top of it makes it even more unsettling.
Also Preacher Fucking Palpatine. That is just fucked up.
Also honorable mention to Bravely Default. The game starts all light-hearted but the further and further in you get, the more you learn, the more dark it becomes.
What did you think of the NX reveal trailer?

NieR Automata : this game is supposed to be like SPM and suprisingly dark. you need to play the game 3 times to complete it the first to times are normal the third time is where shit hits the fan and all hell breaks loose and the game becomes very dark

But Inside was just a weird thing to play, made me so uncomfortable in the sort of way that i kinda loved somehow, but ill never get over seeing a little boy getting shot, eating, stabbed, drowned and strangled.
why no Majora's Mask?!?!?! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Haven't played it
Dafawfulizer oh.
realy
All the games you brought... Are happy happy compared to what I've played
Dafawfulizer I doubt you will because the whole game is on a time limit
Personally, I think it's danganronpa and Majora's mask.
What's Danganronpa?
@@mattok101digitaltamer9 It's a visual novel, logic action game.
Danganronpa is the darkest game i haven't played but i did see it
Hatred is the darkest game in the world
Twisted metal black is.the 2nd darkest game ever
Trust me as a guy who played ( not finished) the genocide run its even worse than you described it
And people are still telling me to do it
you seem so angry for some reason,no offense though
majora's mask anyone
we do not need you cutting yourself off after the end of every sentence ok we need that second of silence after each sentence to stay sane
why do you do happy last
The darkest game I've played is Outlast. (Ive already played the binding of Issac many times and many others on this list)
Be honest. You know you're going to do the genocide route at one point.
Never have, never will
You should play doki doki, its terrifying.
Muhammad Haziq Hamizan no its not
Muhammad Haziq Hamizan it's just disturbing
yeah, how could they reskin it to sell it to the japanese market again? thats disgusting(okay okay,i know the doki dokiQjoke isnt funny anymore)
cough cough mother 3 cough cough
I haven't played it
No spoilers, but despite how goofy it looks, it's probably one of the darkest nintendo games to date
I thought the Clock Tower from Epic Mickey looked pretty cool.
The legend of Zelda majora's mask that game is really dark
Infamous is my favorite video game series
My number 1 is darkest dungeon anyone who has played it can agree
i have to say hotline miami was most messed up, the events were out of order in many parts (the rewind and such) and the fact that the 2nd game shows the mutilator was actually a pretty good guy, the phone calls, the fact that each mask somehow gives you different abilities, and how colorful the game is despite the dark and depressing storyline. In the end, you have to say the mutilator was a good person.
Knew that the binding of isaac would be on here
Kirby’s epic yarn is darker than resident evil 4
Well of course. After all, Kirby disembowels his foes in that game. We see their innards flying everywhere, and we're supposed to act like that's not terrifying.

Seriously, a Kirby games is darker than a Resident Evil game? Who says that?
If there is someone in here who says that, that means that people might live under a rock.
Nintendo Learner Resident evil isn't that dark. Mostly because it's to hard to take the game seriously
The cave the only game I have heard of where the concept of redemption dosen't exist how dark is that 😨
I love the binding of isaac
I've played alot of dark games. But if i have to pick the darkest games i've pick the whole diablo franchise. Damn did blizzard and blizzard north had the balls to make the most darkest RPG franchise since the 90's.
I would personly put the gears of war1 and 2 mostly because of the theirs acts in each game
how come you sound so mad in your latest videos
Because Fear & Hunger didn't exist yet.
Me dO GeNoCiDe RuN LaSt Me nO LiKe CoRrUpTiOn
*tHe binDiNg Of IsAac rebiRth*
You should play doom
I kinda disagree on number 4 I think partners in time especially the final boss. Undertale makes sense because I played the genocide route and beat it.
I knew that issac is going to be on the list
It's dark but fun
jurrasic- yoshi64 I have a binding of Isaac wallpaper on my tablet
kirby mess attack just this....
Have you played any Pokemon games?
not really
why not play the genocide root
Brian Guillemette Cuz it's depressing and corrupts my save file
if you made the list more than top 10 what would you put
Play Extra Lives and listen to the dialogues
For me it would be Shin Megami Tensei . There's something about that game that creeps the frick outta me. Oh, and don't even get me started on Earthbound!
my top 10
10 little inferno
9 kirby´s epic yarn
8 mechanika
7 epic mickey
6 60 seconds
5 undertale
4 spooky´s jumpscare mansion
3 danganronpa
2 the cave
1 the binding of isaac
Kirby's epic yarn isn't dark there I said it.
Partners in time is super not scary because I find it fun and Luigi’s mansion has literally no scares at all so yeah I agree on this but if you could add new games how about smash ultimate the fact that the non fighters die and become spirits and the evil fighters controlled by galeem and dharkon are incredibly scary
The binding of Isaac rebirth is my favorite indie game
Where that link at though
