Thank you so much for the kind words about TetherGeist! We're so happy that you enjoyed our game! So many awesome games featured here--we're beyond thrilled to be among them. And, you're right, player movement is definitely a priority for us, and it really means a lot that a fellow dev team appreciates the work we've put in. Congrats on starting development on your own game! We'll definitely be keeping tabs on your progress. Looking forward to it!
Hi there and many thanks for poppy by. Really appreciate the feedback. Your work with TerherGeist has honestly given us a kick in the backside in terms of what's possible. We spent a good couple of hours this morning messing around with our character and have made a few positive changes particularly in our charter's decent speed. All the best for the work ahead on your game, hugely excited to see where you take it.
Hey, I'm one of the devs of WORMHOLE! So exciting to see our game in the intro~! We're a three person team who made this game on zero budget and every wishlist and boost means a ton to us!
So glad to hear this. We're of an age where we're so attached to our twin stick shooters to see something like this doing something new in the genre is so delightful. All the best for the work ahead.
scarlet deer in looks incredible. i have NEVER seen something this cool, the idea of embroidering the character and then importing that into an engine? thats ART my guy, IMMEDATE whishlist. I had litteral goosebumps. such a unique idea, a true X factor in marketing speak.
The first episode will be in a few weeks time introducing why we're planning on making our own game. It's been three years coming though and has taken that long to decide on an engine...... Which has changed at least 3 times already.
I had a lot of fun with the Downhill demo. Also really looking forward to Windblown. One of my fav games indie games I’ve demoed recently was a puzzler titled “Lok”.
It's not often I subscribe to a channel on watching a single video, but this was so well put together that I want to see what other videos you produce from now on.
I feel like the stitched characters was a wasted opportunity by layering animation over the stitching's. Would have been cooler .. in my opinion, to have them as stitched characters rather than just have them appear as a slightly unique looking animation. It seems like it hides the initial hard work and creativeness of the art all too much.
Hurray! Was waiting for this one! 😁 Nice picks. Garden Thrills feels like a good cozy time, Lonely Mountains Snow Riders seems like a lot of fun, especially with multiplayer. Also looking for Windblown, though the fast action and busy screen feels like it can be a bit too much for me too. I played the Symphonia demo back in 2021, seems like they took a while to bring it to release. Hoping it was just polish and good Q&A, and not anything more serious. Also agree about calling things indie. Not happy about it, but nowadays, it seems anything not AAA is being called indie (even AA). But as long as we're getting good games, I'm happy.
The naming convention has bothered us for a few years. We toyed with the idea of a complete rebrand which would mean we covered more AA side of things and yet that felt we would be stepping away from the whole point of what we've been doing - shining a light on small teams making brilliantly creative games.
@@GetIndieGaming I think you're doing a very good job, even with the odd big budget AA here and there. Even a nitpicker like me don't care, as long as good games have a chance to be highligthed Even the Golden Joystick Awards now have "Best Indie Game" and "Best Indie Game - Self Published" as categories, because they know people will call almost anything indie
I remember seeing Scarlet Deer Inn years ago when developers posted in a facebook group about how it was being made. While this is definitely very cool, I thought back then the same thing I do now seeing it again. The way they made the art simply doesn't make sense :/ If you don't have the information on how art was made, there is no way anyone will recognize it was done in such a unique way. It can definitely be done to look the same with "traditional" asset drawing, so not sure why they took so much time and effort and probably insane amount of resources. But again, as someone who loves game development, for me this is insanely cool, and maybe I'm just missing something
I agree. The artistry is very interesting and I'm sure very time consuming, but it's kinda not coming through on footage. The embroidery looks like a shader, not something crafted and scanned/photographed, and the environments and backgrounds are a bit too simple. I hope it's one that looks better in person, like Harold Halibut (which looks good on videos, but significantly better when playing)
Thanks for the video! I'm gonna try a couple of the games you recommend. Personally, I liked the demos of: Ale Abbey, The Rise of the Golden Idol, The Girl from Arkanya, Embers of Spiritflame, The Edge of Allegoria, Dinocop and Before I Go. Wow, I didn't realise there were so many until I wrote them here...
Fantastic to see you back Mr! Hope you’re in a better position for creating content again. Always find myself asking “What would GIG think of this?” when discovering a new Indie fave. I am glad that you are still focusing on Indie games, with the amount of AAA (and one AAAA I guess) that are just failing, indies are more important than ever.... also, I am still waiting for Little Devil Inside hahaha
As ever, such a great eclectic choice of games, and no duds here. Personally looking forward to Chrono Sword and Lonely Mountains Snow Riders, but again, all look top tier tbh!
One game that I ended up immediately wishlisting after the demo was Karate Survivor. As the name suggests, it's like Vampire Survivors but with kung fu, but that can be more reductive than it sounds. The whole thing is drenched in early '90s Jackie Chan pastiche, it's got incredibly smooth animation, and the game's combo setup system is fascinating and rewarding once you start to come to grips with it. Definitely something to watch.
This is a great list of games, thanks. Lonely Mountain Snow Riders looks like it would be great on Steam Deck. TetherGeist came out of nowhere, and looks amazing.
I played the Knights in Tights Spaces demo as part of Next Fest, as I was curious how different it was going to be from Fights in Tight Spaces, or just a fantasy re-skin. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's got everything I liked about FiTS with the addition of controlling multiple characters and some RPG elements. I'm liking the new art style too. Looking forward to the final game! Also played the demo for The Precinct, which felt a bit generic, but fairly enjoyable and it's interesting to play GTA as a cop, rather than a criminal, where you have abide by the law, kinda like the old Police Quest games (showing my age here 😄). Early development and the car controls definitely need some tweaking still, but could but good.
Wow, a bunch of games to check this time around. I´m a bit tired of the indie Souls-Likes, but Chrono Sword looks pretty interesting. Thethergeist definitely grabbed my attention with the bit you showed and the talk about it, keeping an eye on it. And windblown from the Dead Cells team is a must get for sure. Thanks for the vid! :D
A lovely, carefully curated list ☺️ I'm glad it was so varied - I'm kind of too scared to browse Steam these days as it's just a wall of Metroid/Souls/Rogue clones that I'm just over with to be honest. Seeing a list like this proves there'a a ton of great stuff just getting buried unless you have the time to search. It doesn't help that my reflexes are shot these days so that's partly to blame for my sentiment, heh heh. I'm loving the look of Garden Trills, and Chrono Sword looks gorgeous (problems aside). Cheers GIG 👍

That’s interesting. We have three possible thumbnails for this video with UA-cam selecting the one it thinks the viewer might be most likely to click on.
@@GetIndieGaming That makes sense! I learned that YT mostly cares about watch time. Top 50?! Dude, come on. Maybe you’re new here but there is absolutely no way for a team of two people to select that many games from an even larger pool of indies. It also just doesn’t make sense from a strategic standpoint, seeing as the video would be way too long. There’s a reason why they chose to highlight only 10.
From our side, covering more games where we offer analysis and insight rather than read from the Steam homepage wouldn’t be feasible. We’re aiming for this additional context to be our value here in what’s a super busy and crowded space.
