    I like Mike because not only does he exude a quiet confidence that adds weight to what he saying, but he’s also very respectful when handling swords or dealing with customers.
    I wish he had his own YT channel where he talked about certain swords of projects he was working on. I’d subscribe in a heartbeat.

    rick has a basic formula, asks people what they want for the item, hears the prices, calls his expert and tells them the price the person wants and rick tells them to lowball them on the appraisal

    The barrel of the machine gun was overheated and quenched over and over due to the charging japanese, so that when they arrived, the sword managed to snap the barrel with ease. It has often been used as 'proof' of the magic of katanas, but it wasn't magic at all.

    The only way a katana would cut through a machine gun barrel is if the gun was fired till the barrel was red hot and at the right moment was hit with the sword.

    how sure we are, if the buyer calls the appraiser in and telling them the seller asking price before the appraiser come and appraise the items...in that case the appraiser will never go higher than asking price by the seller...best the buyer to call the appraiser in-front of the seller...i don't see this in any of pawn start videos....

    The steel isn't that good. That's why it is folded so many times. To get the impurities out, which makes the steel loose carbon, which has to be put back. I'd take modem powdered steels through hardened rather than tamahagane.

    for those who like real deal katanas, check out the Nihonto shows around the US. It's a blast to learn from the oldtimers and hold $100,000 swords. Most are 10,000 and under and some under 1000. These shows wont last much longer as the old guys are dying off.

      @@him050 The Tanto was used for Seppuku much more commonly than the Katana, so no. There have also been plenty of account of officers killing with swords during WW2.

    After WW2, 3 million swords came out of Japan that were confiscated by the occupational forces. My first thought was "wow, more than a few people have in their possession swords used to impale infant babies along with other atrocities". sheeesh

    I have five old blades from the early 1400’s mine need polishing work. I love collecting iron forged tsuba. Must have 100 of them laying around no one ever cares to buy them anymore.
